The Bird House: Slot Overview
It’s amusing: when we reviewed The Dog House Megaways, we floated the idea that there are basically two types of players—dog people and cat people. Turns out that was a bit off, so here’s a small correction. Alongside dogs and cats, it looks like birds rank pretty highly too—at least if The Bird House from Pragmatic Play is anything to go by. Beyond the similar title, the rest of the package is essentially a carbon copy of the 2019 release The Dog House. The obvious difference is the theme, which swaps suburbia for a rural setting and some wholesome, corn-fed farmyard vibes.
Just like The Dog House, The Bird House is straightforward but bright and friendly, showing off a slice of country living around a red-roofed reel set. You’ve got a modern windmill, a pond for water, and plenty of food either scattered around or strutting about, suggesting this little homestead could genuinely be self-sufficient. Whether it’s an eco-minded setup, a hideaway from disastrous black swan scenarios, or simply an everyday farm, players can imagine whichever backstory they prefer.
The Bird House runs on a 5-reel, 3-row layout and uses 20 fixed paylines for forming wins. Since it’s effectively a reskin, the rest of the core specs remain unchanged. That means a variable RTP, with the best configuration set at 96.49%, plus volatility rated by Pragmatic Play as 5 out of 5. It’s available across devices, and the betting range goes from 20 p/c to $/€100 per spin.
Winning combinations are paid on adjacent reels from left to right, beginning on the leftmost reel. Dogs have been swapped out for birds, with four bird symbols acting as the top premiums. Landing five birds returns 10 to 37.5 times the stake. Below those come medium-value worms and nests, followed by 10-A card ranks as the low symbols. Finally, the birdhouse icon is the wild symbol, which can appear only on reels 2, 3, or 4. Wilds replace all symbols except the bonus symbol and can arrive with a random x2 or x3 multiplier. When multiple wild multipliers contribute to the same win, their values on the payline are added together before the total multiplier is applied.
The Bird House: Slot Features
The Bird House doesn’t introduce anything that wasn’t already present, so the main goal is still to reach the free spins feature with sticky wild multipliers. You’ll be looking for the golden egg scatter symbol, which shows up only on reels 1, 3, or 5. Land 3 of them in the same spin to activate the free spins round and receive a win worth 5x your stake.
Before the bonus starts, a 3-reel grid with 3 symbols per reel appears for one spin. Each spot reveals a value, and all revealed values are totalled to determine the awarded number of free spins. During free spins, any wild symbols that land on reels 2, 3, or 4 become sticky for the remainder of the feature. Each sticky wild comes with a random multiplier that is shown when it lands and then stays locked in for the rest of the round. Make them count, because free spins cannot be retriggered.
The Bird House: Slot Verdict
A few small tweaks could have helped justify why a bird-themed rework of a dog slot favourite arrived, and might have prevented some frustration from players hoping for something fresh. On the other hand, the let-down may be limited, since the feature set from the original The Dog House proved popular the first time. Even so, The Bird House does feel—just a little—like a release designed to tick a box, which is something Pragmatic Play has seemed to do more often lately.
If the charm of The Dog House won you over, the animals in The Bird House are every bit as cute, bringing a spirited, lovable Angry Bird-style attitude, so there’s that. Beyond the theme, though, it’s difficult to add much that wasn’t already covered in the The Dog House review. Sticky wild multipliers remain the standout when they stack up during free spins, helping drive wins toward the game’s maximum potential of 6,750x the bet. In terms of cute-but-capable gameplay, the two titles are essentially equals.
The Bird House, like its dog-themed counterpart, doesn’t soar quite as high as The Dog House Megaways did, but the original formula still has enough appeal to tempt plenty of players. That said, it’s hard not to wonder how much of the first game’s magic came from those wide-eyed, tongue-out pooches—so it remains to be seen whether the clucking replacements will earn the same affection.
Ultimately, The Bird House doesn’t push online slots forward in any meaningful way, but that’s hardly a deal-breaker if you simply want something cute. Even without adding much that’s new, The Bird House still manages to be an easygoing, fun slot that’s naturally likeable.
