Diamond Vortex: Overview
Swedish developer Play’n GO clearly has a knack for grid slots, and overall they’ve enjoyed major success with them. A big advantage of this format is how adaptable it is. From the volcano-shaped antics of Gold Volcano to the 5×5 chaos of Moon Princess, the layout can be almost anything. Here, Play’n GO break out the drawing tools again to deliver the hexagon-shaped Diamond Vortex.
Diamond Vortex isn’t the first time the studio has experimented with a hexagon. The shape also appeared in the bee-filled slot Honey Rush, with both titles using a 4-5-6-7-6-5-4 row formation. This time, rather than a woodland setting, Diamond Vortex takes place in deep space against a swirling nebula. It may not have the same cosy feel as Honey Rush, but it still carries its own distinctive appeal.
You can play from 20 p/c up to $/€100 per spin on a variety of devices. Diamond Vortex comes with a default RTP of 96.20%, although operators can adjust it, meaning lower versions may be available. As always, it’s worth checking to ensure you’re playing the best setting. Rounding out the math model is volatility, which the developer rates at 7 out of 10, placing it in the medium/high range.
The objective is to create clusters of matching symbols to win. A cluster is formed by at least 6 connected identical symbols; these are removed, allowing new symbols to cascade into the empty spaces. This boosts the chances of additional wins and continues as long as new winning clusters appear. Multiple clusters of the same symbol that aren’t connected are paid as separate cluster wins.
The symbol set is a quirky mix, looking a little like fruit even though they’re meant to be fragments of interstellar rock. Low pays are 4 smaller pieces in different colours, while the high pays are 4 bigger, quartz-like chunks. Payouts run from 10x for 35+ low symbols, up to 100x for 35 or more of the pinky premium.
Diamond Vortex: Features

Right then, get ready, because there’s quite a lot going on feature-wise. As usual, it’s far easier to understand once you see it in motion than by reading about it, but we’ll run through it anyway.
To start, the playfield consists of three concentric rings, and each ring contains a Spot and a Zone. Zones are fixed at the top of each ring, while Spots begin at the bottom and rotate during win sequences until they reach a Zone.
With every win, the Rotate feature kicks in. The inner ring turns clockwise, the middle ring rotates anti-clockwise, and the outer ring also moves clockwise. Non-winning symbols travel with the rings before new symbols drop into the spaces left behind. Just remember: Spots move, but Zones stay put.
Diamond Vortex has two types of wilds – the regular Core Wild and a Sticky Wild. There is only one Core Wild, positioned in the centre of the grid, while Sticky Wilds can appear during cascades. When a Sticky Wild helps form a win, it remains in play, but jumps to a different ring, moving closer to the Core Wild.
Any time a Sticky Wild lands on the Core Wild, the Consume feature is triggered. The game’s win multiplier then increases by +1 per consumed Sticky Wild, up to a cap of x20. This multiplier applies to any wins that include the Core Wild. On a new base game spin, the multiplier returns to x1.
Then, when a Spot reaches a Zone, it activates the Transform feature. This turns every symbol on that ring into the same matching pay symbol. In theory, all rings can transform at once, resulting in a grid filled with a single symbol. On a new base game spin, Spots reset back to the bottom of the hex.
The final feature before we pause is a triggered free spins round. If a bonus symbol is rotated into a Zone, you receive 5 free spins. During the bonus, Spots don’t reset between spins, and the Core Wild Multiplier doesn’t reset either. Bonus symbols can still reach Zones, awarding 5 additional free spins each time.
Diamond Vortex: Verdict
There’s a lot to take in, so hopefully we didn’t lose anyone along the way. As noted, any confusion tends to disappear once you play, since Play’n GO has combined the different mechanics into a single, well-structured experience. Diamond Vortex will appeal to players looking for a more intricate grid slot that can really take off when everything lines up.
Visually, Diamond Vortex feels like a blend of Honey Rush and Starburst, thanks to its clean, space-themed style. It’s not excessively volatile either, which is often the case with grid slots, so it may suit those who prefer a slightly gentler math model.
When all is said and done, Diamond Vortex is another very capable grid slot from the Play’n GO team, offering solid potential of up to 5,000 times the stake. Each mechanic has been smartly built to complement the others, steadily pushing play toward a satisfying peak. It does exactly what a good grid slot should: link wins into extended sequences where features trigger, overlap, and meaningful payouts can land.
