Pragmatic Play has certainly been prolific this year, releasing slot after slot at a rapid pace. Much of it has been perfectly fine, with a few genuinely strong titles too, but the studio also seems to have trouble breaking away from familiar formulas, which can leave some games feeling a little samey. That impression hasn’t been helped by the sheer number of releases tied to ancient China in one way or another. We’d barely caught our breath after 5 Lions Gold before another arrived. Fortunately, Caishen’s Cash looks sharper and carries a more premium vibe.

Caishen’s Cash is a follow-up to an earlier Pragmatic title called Caishen’s Gold (yes, the naming is getting a bit interchangeable), a fairly plain, low-ceiling slot that’s not especially memorable. This sequel runs on 5 reels and 243 ways to win and includes 4 fixed Jackpots offering prizes of up to 1000 times your stake, plus 2 separate bonus games: a Free Spins round using only high-value symbols and a Money Respin feature built around streak wins. It’s available on all devices with stakes ranging from 25 cents to 125 Euros per spin.

Inspired by the Chinese god of prosperity, the visuals lean into warm tones, with red and gold dominating to suggest fortune and abundance. Behind the reels sits what looks like a treasure store packed with shimmering gold coins, while traditional Chinese music plays to reinforce the setting. It’s not easy to reinvent such a well-worn theme, but the art team has done an excellent job of giving it an upscale, polished finish.

On the reels you’ll find low-paying 9, 10, J, Q, K and A presented as Chinese-style royals, alongside higher-value symbols like gold coins, Maneki-neko cats, a young girl and a young boy. The top-paying icon is Cashien himself: hit 5 across a full payline and it returns 6 times your stake. There’s also a wild that appears only on reels 2, 3 and 4. It substitutes for all symbol except the scatter and also plays a key role in activating one of the features.

Cashien’s Cash includes 4 fixed jackpots set at 25x, 50x, 100x and 1000x. Any time a wild lands in the base game, it has a chance to randomly launch the Jackpot Bonus round. If it triggers, you’re moved to a separate screen showing 12 gold coins—pick them to uncover jackpot symbols. Match 3 identical symbols and you win the related jackpot.

There’s another important icon in this slot that we haven’t covered yet: the Money Symbol. Each money symbol arrives with a random cash value, and when 6 or more land, they trigger the main bonus. At that point you’ll be given two choices: the Free Spins feature or the Money Respin feature.

With 8 spins to begin, the Free Spins feature removes all low-paying symbols from the reels. With only premium symbols and the wild in play, the odds of hitting larger wins improve considerably. The money symbol mechanic also carries over. The combined value of all money symbols that triggered the feature is shown when the round starts, and every time a wild lands during free spins, that total value is paid out separately from any other win combinations that may land at the same time. At its absolute best, this feature can deliver up to 20,000 times your total stake.

Choosing the Money Respin feature takes you to a different reel set with 15 positions, where a win streak mechanic is used. All money symbols—and their values—that activated the bonus are transferred onto this new layout. You start with 6 respins, and one or more of these symbols may appear:

• Green money symbol – takes the total value of all standard money symbols present on the reels and adds it to your total
• Blue money symbol – takes the total value of all green money symbols as well as the standard ones and adds it to your total
• 1+ respin – awards you an additional respin

Any money symbol that lands in an empty spot stays locked in place until the bonus ends. The round finishes once you either use up all respins or fill every position with money symbols.

Cashien’s Cash doesn’t really introduce anything we haven’t encountered before, whether we’re talking about the theme or the mechanics. Still, it’s assembled with care and the presentation is undeniably high quality. Even though this style of slot isn’t usually our favourite, it’s easily among the stronger examples we’ve played recently. It also brings excellent potential without being quite as punishingly volatile as many top-end games tend to be.

If your goal is the biggest possible payouts, the Free Spins choice is the one to take. If you’d rather keep things a little steadier, the Money Respin option felt like the more consistent route and generally less volatile than the free spins. As always, landing truly enormous wins won’t come easily and the bonuses can take time to show up, but when they finally do, the returns are often well worth it.
