24K Dragon: Slot Overview
The name could easily make you think of an Asian themed slot, with visions of gilded dragons coiled around jade or crimson reels. In reality, Play’n GO’s 24K Dragon leans into the kind of mythical beasts you’d expect from fantasy books and films. The “24K” part is more about the game’s win potential than any precious-metal theme. In other words, there’s more happening here than it first appears, and that includes mechanics that add rows and increase win ways.
The vibrant 5-reel, 1,024 win ways grid is set inside a vast cavern, where heaps of gold sit around stone columns. It brings to mind the treasure mound Smaug lounged on in The Hobbit, though dragons guarding hoards is a classic fantasy staple, making the setting a natural fit. The bold, brass-heavy soundtrack matches the theme too, sounding like a dragon launching into the air to rain chaos on the world below. It’s easy to imagine Dany riding Drogon as the city burns.
24K Dragon runs smoothly across all devices and uses Play’n GO’s familiar stake range of 20 p/c to $/€100 per spin. The default RTP rating of 96.2% applies, although some casinos may offer a reduced setting. Play’n GO releases often skew toward high volatility, and given the huge upside on offer here, 24K Dragon follows suit. That impression held true in testing, where even reaching maximum reel height during free spins didn’t automatically translate into strong returns.
All paying symbols can appear stacked, starting with five low-value 10-A royals styled in a typeface that would fit right into one of Play’n GO’s metal-themed slots. Above those are a lion, a green gem, and crossed swords as the mid-tier symbols, paying 2-2.5 times the stake. At the top sit two dragons — one silver and one gold — each paying 5x the bet for five of a kind.
Helping boost both hit rate and payout size is the treasure chest wild, which shows up on the middle reels. It substitutes for any standard paying symbol to form wins, and in the base game it can also increase returns by revealing an x2 or x4 multiplier.
24K Dragon: Slot Features
There are two main additions to discuss — a respin mechanic and the headline expanding reels free spin round. Neither concept is groundbreaking, as both have appeared in earlier Play’n GO titles in one way or another. That said, they’ve been adjusted from previous versions and can be extremely rewarding when the dragon decides to cooperate.
Whenever a golden dragon symbol lands in the base game, it triggers a 24K Dragon Respin. During this respin, the grid receives a random boost of 1-4 extra rows. Each added row contains 3 symbols and is positioned above the central rows. You then get one spin using the expanded layout and the increased number of ways to win.
The bonus game starts when 3, 4, or 5 diamond scatters appear, awarding 8, 15, or 20 free spins respectively. Just like the base game, the feature begins on the standard 5×3, 1,024 win ways setup. In free spins, golden dragon symbols no longer activate respins — instead, they are collected. A tracker on the left side of the screen shows your progress. Once you’ve gathered enough, extra rows are added above the main reels in a similar fashion to the respin rows, except they remain in play for the duration. The collection milestones work like this:
- 3 collected dragons unlock row 1, increasing win ways to 2,000.
- 7 collected dragons unlock row 2, increasing win ways to 3,456.
- 11 collected dragons unlock row 3, increasing win ways to 5,488.
- 15 collected dragons unlock row 4, increasing win ways to 8,192.
During free spins, treasure chest wilds always display a multiplier. When multiple wilds contribute to the same win, their multipliers are multiplied together up to a maximum of x64. While the feature is running, landing 2, 3, 4, or 5 scatters on the reels awards an extra 5, 8, 15, or 20 spins to extend the session. There’s no cap on how many additional free spins can be collected this way.
24K Dragon: Slot Verdict
Picture the creatures from Dragon Maiden, the presentation style of Testament, and the reel-expanding elements found in both, and you’ll have a solid sense of what 24K Dragon delivers. The environment is thoughtfully built, with plenty of winged monsters to keep fantasy lovers entertained. The visuals are strong, and the rousing orchestral score adds extra drama, making this another eye-catching Play’n GO release.
As for the gameplay, 24K Dragon isn’t wildly innovative, but it still manages to feel reasonably lively once you’re spinning. Small changes to the feature set help it separate itself from earlier iterations. The biggest differentiator, though, is the unusually high ceiling. Play’n GO commonly sticks to 5 or 10k maximum wins, but here that pattern is broken with potential reaching 24,000 times the bet — which explains the title. Why the studio went so big on this particular slot is unclear. It’s a solid entry, yet it doesn’t really come across as a flagship launch or something Play’n GO would heavily push.
Overall, 24K Dragon is well worth a handful of spins, and Tolkien fans will likely appreciate the D&D-style atmosphere even more. Even so, regular slot players can still enjoy it — especially big win hunters, thanks to the far larger payouts available than we typically see from Play’n GO.
