Tomb of Gold Reimagined: Slot Overview

Play’n GO has produced a huge number of ancient Egyptian slots—possibly more than any other studio—often turning the setting into full-on series. Book of Dead is widely seen as their biggest hit in this category, but the developer is also investing heavily in its growing Tomb of Gold line. We’ve already seen Tomb of Gold and Tomb of Gold 2, which shared plenty of similarities; now Tomb of Gold Reimagined steps in and takes the formula in a noticeably different direction compared to those two earlier entries.

Visually, though, Tomb of Gold Reimagined doesn’t stray far. The scenery behind the grid, the jackpot displays, and the overall presentation look much like before—flames, statues with crossed arms, hieroglyph-covered pillars, and similar touches. The lighting effects are particularly striking. It’s not as prominent during standard spins, but once Lock’n Gold is running, the backdrop feels animated, as if the game is moving forward through a warm golden glow. The result is a polished Egyptian theme delivered in that familiar, glossy, metallic Play’n GO style.

Among the more notable adjustments in Tomb of Gold Reimagined is that volatility has been toned down from the high level used in the previous two titles to this game’s low setting. The top RTP remains essentially unchanged at 96.24%. Bets range from $/€0.10 to $/€100, and the playfield is still a 6×4, 4,096 ways to win layout.

From the lowest to the highest paying symbols, the paytable includes 10 to A royals, ankhs, scarabs, and two character icons. Landing 6 matching royals returns 1x-1.4x the stake, while 6 matching picture symbols pay 3x to 8x the stake. Wilds can appear on every reel in the base game. They replace all symbols except Gem scatters, and can land as regular wilds or as multiplier wilds worth x2 or x3. Wild multipliers stack by being added together.

Tomb of Gold Reimagined: Slot Features

The key feature in Tomb of Gold Reimagined is the Lock’n Gold bonus. Gem scatters can land on any reel. When blue, red, or purple Gem scatters appear in the base game, they are collected into the matching pots above the reels, making those pots look larger—however, this is purely visual and doesn’t indicate progress toward a trigger. Instead, Lock’n Gold can randomly trigger with 1-3 Gem features whenever one or more Gem scatters land. The Gem features are:

  • Double Horus – Blue Double scatters may land to select 1 to 3 Coins, doubling their value.
  • Serpent’s Surge – Red Ignite scatters may land to select 1 Coin and increase its value throughout the whole of the round.
  • Bonus of Anubis – Awards instant bonuses when three purple Bonus scatters are collected by the respective bonus meter. Purple scatters reveal one of the bonus prizes when they land. Instant bonuses are the 20x Mini, 50x Minor, 100x Major, and the 1,000x Grand.

When it activates, Lock’n Gold starts with 4 respins on a grid where standard pay symbols do not appear. Coins can land (showing values of 1x to 10x at the end of the round, unless a pot feature has already flipped them), and they stick once they hit. The respin counter is reset whenever 1 or more Coins/ scatters land up to 104. Filling the screen with Coins grants an extra 500x plus the total multipliers shown on the grid. While respins are in progress, scatters tied to non-active features may still land to randomly unlock that feature.

Tomb of Gold Reimagined: Slot Verdict

Tomb of Gold Reimagined comes across as being designed—at least in part—to ride the wave of the three-feature bonus/three collection pot trend that’s dominating the gambling industry at the time of writing. The base game is packed with blue, red, and purple scatters shooting into their matching pots, with comparatively little else happening. The Stack of Gold feature from Tomb of Gold 2 has been removed, and it wasn’t exactly a standout addition to begin with. The free spins round has also been cut, meaning there are no free spins with a win multiplier here either. With so many ways to win, the routine is essentially wins, wild multipliers, and scatter collection until the bonus finally arrives.

Lock’n Gold itself was fine, but not particularly memorable. Coins drop in, remain in place, and only reveal their values at the end. On their own, those values aren’t especially big, which makes the three Gem features important if you want to push the outcome into anything meaningful. On the plus side, Lock’n Gold appeared to trigger fairly frequently; on the downside, results were often so small they could feel discouraging. That said, it’s not impossible for fortunate players to do much better, and the win potential is 10,000x the stake—although with odds of 1 in 1,664,966,416, it may be something you rarely, if ever, see.

Not to lean too hard into cynicism, but Tomb of Gold Reimagined felt like it dropped its free spins round and the base game jackpot feature mainly to concentrate everything into the three-feature Lock’n Gold round, more as trend-following than as a real step forward. It ends up feeling like Lock’n Gold or nothing, and after repeating the bonus a few times and collecting underwhelming returns, it was hard to stay motivated to keep pushing on.
