Tomb of Gold 2: Slot Overview

If you’ve not yet been scorched by the desert heat, tired of shaking sand out of your boots, and can handle the weight of ancient history, then it’s time to check out developer Play’n GO’s newest trip to Ancient Egypt. The headline act is Tomb of Gold 2, the sequel to 2024’s Tomb of Gold, a slot that bundled fairly standard mechanics inside a shiny, gold-plated presentation. This follow-up largely keeps to the same formula, but adds a bonus prize jackpot-style feature, adjusts the wild multiplier rules, and increases the overall win potential.

Play’n GO has explored this theme plenty of times, having produced Ancient Egyptian slots that genuinely made an impact on the genre—Book of Dead being the obvious standout. So in terms of visuals, audio, and overall atmosphere, Tomb of Gold 2 is just as rich-looking as the original, which was already impressively polished. Everything is bathed in a warm golden hue, clearly tipping its hat to the culture behind the setting. Towering statues frame the reels, braziers flicker, and the execution is so strong it’s hard not to imagine how spectacular Ancient Egypt must have been at its height.

Play’n GO has nudged the volatility upward, giving Tomb of Gold 2 a high score of 8 out of 10. The RTP has dipped slightly, though, now topping out at 96.2%, with lower-return versions offered in certain regions. Bets run from 10 c to $/€100 per spin, and play unfolds on a 6×4 active area featuring 4,096 left-to-right ways to win.

In Tomb of Gold 2, landing 6-of-a-kind wins with the 10-A low symbols returns 1-1.4 times the bet, while the ankh, beetle, cat, and mask premium icons pay 3-5 times the bet. Wilds can appear on every reel and substitute for any standard paying symbol. A wild win made up of six symbols pays 6 times the bet.

Tomb of Gold 2: Slot Features

Tomb of Gold 2 brings back the earlier game’s Lock’N Gold round, along with free spins featuring an increasing win multiplier. On top of that, it introduces a new Stack of Gold bonus prize feature.

Stack of Gold

When 5 or fewer Coin symbols appear on the reels, they are collected by the Stack of Gold. If 1 or more Coins are collected, the Stack of Gold has a chance of triggering. The size of the stack is purely visual and does not indicate how likely the feature is to activate. The bonus prizes it can award are the 20x Mini, 50x Minor, 100x Major, or the 1,000x Grand. Stack of Gold is only available in the base game.

Lock’N Gold

If 4 or 5 Coins land, the reels without Coins respin. Landing 6 Coins activates the Lock’N Gold feature. To start, 3 respins are awarded. Coin symbols can land and stick in place. Each time a Coin lands, it also resets the remaining spins. Once the feature ends, every coin reveals a value of 1x to 10x the bet, and the combined total is paid out. However, covering the entire screen with Coins awards a total of 500x when the feature finishes, no matter what values the Coin symbols show.

Free Spins

Landing 3+ Sphinx scatters triggers the free spins feature. First, a wheel spins to decide how many free spins are awarded. Based on the number of scatters that start the bonus, players can win 10-30 free spins from 3 scatters, 15-30 from 4 scatters, 20-30 from 5 scatters, or 25-30 free spins from 6 scatters. The wheel also sets the feature’s starting win multiplier of x1 to x5. During the round, special wild symbols may appear with multipliers of x1, x2, or x3, which adds +1, +2, or +3 to the multiplier counter. The multiplier counter applies to all free spins wins. Players gain an extra spin for each Sphinx scatter that lands, up to 65.

Tomb of Gold 2: Slot Verdict

Tomb of Gold 2 isn’t exactly a jaw-dropping sequel. It’s essentially Tomb of Gold with a Stacks of Gold jackpot feature bolted on, plus a small adjustment to how the wild multiplier symbols work. They are changes, sure, but not the kind that transform what was already a fairly middle-of-the-road slot into something truly standout. That said, anyone who liked the first game—and its attractive presentation of Ancient Egypt—should find plenty to enjoy here too, since the additions generally enhance rather than undermine the experience.

Another point in its favour is the increased win potential, which tends to make sequels more appealing. Players can now, in theory, win up to 10,000x the bet versus the previous game’s 7,000x, although the odds of hitting that remain the same as before, at less than 1 in a billion—so don’t count on it. That extra headroom likely comes from wild symbols being able to add up to 3 to the free spins win multiplier, whereas in the original, wilds could only add +1 each. The new Stack of Gold feature helps fill in some of the gap, though a 1,000x top prize isn’t exactly enormous.

As noted, if the first game did it for you, Tomb of Gold 2 will probably land well too. The new elements may give it extra appeal for jackpot fans, and the higher win potential is a welcome plus. Still, none of the gameplay tweaks feel essential, leaving Tomb of Gold 2 broadly on the same footing as its predecessor—perhaps just slightly ahead.
