This Art Deco-inspired video slot draws on The Great Gatsby, inviting you to revel in sparkle, glamour, and opulence as Quickspin whisks you back to the roaring 20s and the Golden Age of Hollywood. If you know Quickspin’s catalogue, you may get a slight sense of deja vu. You can clearly spot echoes of other Quickspin titles, particularly Sevens High, Second Strike and Wins of Fortune, with a hint of Yggdrasil Gaming’s Nirvana mixed in.

The Grand uses a somewhat unusual layout. Its 6 reels form a geometric shape with 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5 symbols high from left to right, creating 214 ways to win. Available on both mobile and desktop, you can wager between 0.10 to 100 Eur per spin. Gameplay is driven by features such as nudge reels, random wilds, and synchronized reels, which can also interact impressively thanks to the GRANDomizer. More on that below.

With its blend of art-deco flair and geometric presentation, The Grand makes a strong first impression. It carries the polished feel and shimmering gold framing of a classic Hollywood theatre, set against a glowing neon-style background that helps it stand out. The symbols are fairly straightforward, featuring low-value diamonds, clubs, spades and hearts, plus two higher-value gemstones in purple and green. Paying 8 times your stake for 6 of a kind, the green gemstone is the top-paying symbol.

The Grand (Quickspin): Features

At the heart of the slot are three features, with only one able to trigger at random at a time during the base game. The available features are:

• Synchronized Reels: between 2 and 6 reels are linked to stop in the same position. Reels sharing the same row height synchronize as pairs.
• Random Wilds: when activated, 4 to 8 wilds are placed randomly across reels 2 to 6.
• Nudge Reels: when the nudge feature triggers, up to 3 reels can be nudged in your favour.

During the Free Spins bonus, these three features can be unlocked and then combined so they apply together on every spin. To enter the bonus, you must land 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatter symbols, awarding 6, 9, 12 or 15 free spins respectively. From there, everything revolves around the GRANDomizer, which appears when you land 3 bonus symbols on reels 3, 4 and 5. The GRANDomizer is essentially a wheel feature that unlocks one of the features listed above, along with 1, 2 or 3 extra free spins. Once unlocked, that feature triggers on every spin and remains active for the rest of the bonus. If you unlock all of them, they will then apply on each subsequent spin in this order: Sync, Wilds and Nudge.

The Grand (Quickspin): Verdict

The Grand is a high variance slot with a comparatively modest top payout of around 2900 times your stake, based on Quickspin’s testing phase of 100 billion spins. The maximum win on a single spin, however, is 1712 times your stake if you hit a full screen of green gems—something that’s much more likely to occur in the bonus, where all three features can stack effectively.

All in all, The Grand comes across as fairly average. While it looks classy, the presentation started to feel a little repetitive, and the slow stretches between bonuses made the base game feel like a grind. On their own, the features don’t seem to deliver much impact, and it rarely feels like anything truly exciting results from them. It isn’t a favourite for us, but given how well Second Strike and Seven High have performed for the studio, this one could still find its audience.
