Ted Megaways: Overview

Specialists in branded slots, Blueprint Gaming, return with everyone’s favourite irreverent plush troublemaker. Inspired by the lovable (and foul-mouthed) bear from the film, the story follows John Bennett, a Boston native whose childhood wish brings his teddy bear pal Ted to life. Powered by the Megaways engine, you now get 6 main reels with 2-7 symbols per reel, plus a 4 position horizontal reel across the top. Win ways shift each spin from 324 to 117,649, depending on how the reels land.

As you’d expect, Ted doesn’t exactly play it safe. The weed jokes may be dialled back somewhat, but he still can’t stop talking about hanging out ‘with his weed guy.’ Yes, it’s that kind of slot. If that feels too crude, you’ll probably want to tap out here. But if you don’t mind fart and burp humour and the rest, Ted’s style can feel refreshingly unfiltered in an industry that often takes itself more seriously than it needs to.

Ted Megaways: Features

Ted Megaways isn’t quite as outrageous as the film, but it still delivers plenty of lines from the furry little menace. He’ll also jump into the gameplay now and then, though you shouldn’t expect the same feature overload this time. Alongside Cascades, there’s Mystery Ted, the Thunder Wheel for free spins, and a feature buy.

First is the familiar Cascade feature, which kicks in after every win. Winning symbols are removed from the grid and new ones drop into the gaps. This allows multiple payouts from a single spin, as Cascades keep going for as long as fresh winning combinations continue to land.

The Mystery Ted feature can trigger randomly on any spin. When it hits, Ted zaps the reels with his gun, adding up to 100 Mystery Symbols to the next spin. Each Mystery Symbol then turns into the same matching symbol to uncover winning combinations. It can become anything except the scatter.

Landing at least 4 scatters activates the Thunder Buddies Bonus. Players can either take 12 free spins to begin, or gamble on the Thunder Wheel for the chance at more free spins and a higher minimum Megaways value. Note that the wheel can just as easily award fewer than 12 spins as well.

Whichever route you choose, free spins include a progressive win multiplier starting at x1 and increasing by +1 with every cascade. A new Ted symbol is also added. Ted Megaways: Verdict

Some players will likely be underwhelmed once they notice how much has been stripped back from the original to create the Megaways edition. In terms of look and theme, it’s broadly familiar; it’s the reduction in features that may disappoint certain fans. That said, the strong production values and satisfying gameplay do a lot to offset what’s missing. Blueprint rarely misses with Megaways or branded slots, and combining the two results in a genuinely fun game.

Along with fewer features, Ted himself has less to say. The insults and quips are more limited, and they can start to feel repetitive over time. With fewer moving parts than the first game, the base play can also become a bit of a slog, although cascades do help keep things ticking.

Once Ted Megaways hits free spins, though, it shifts into a much higher gear. The rising minimum Megaways pairs brilliantly with cascades and the uncapped win multiplier, creating the potential for huge moments. Even the seemingly simple Mystery Symbols can make a real difference when they land at the right time.

In some respects the two games feel closely related, yet in others they’re worlds apart. The original is more packed with extras and feels more ‘Ted’, with more involvement from the bear, more mouth, and more animation. This Megaways version is tighter and more streamlined, but it comes with serious upside. Ultimately, both are ‘fur-kin sweet’ choices—just aimed at different playing moods.
