Star Bounty: Overview
Pragmatic Play turns to interstellar bounty hunting with its sci-fi slot Star Bounty. Dropped into a well-crafted alien setting, the game gets a lot right thanks to its blend of pay mechanics and features like Tumbles, Wild Multipliers, and Free Spins. The standout, though, is the huge upside—how often it actually shows up is another matter.
So, as noted, tighten that rebreather before you hit spin, because this isn’t familiar territory. Beyond the main view, ships glide across the surface of a rugged alien world—though it could just as easily be a future Earth after the soil’s been scorched away. Wherever you are, Star Bounty leans hard into sci-fi, from the sleek structures on the planet to the spaceship bridge where the 6-reel, 4,096 ways to win hexagon-shaped grid sits. There’s also a punchy synth-driven soundtrack to accompany the action. All in all, it’s one of the more immersive worlds Pragmatic has produced in a while.
Available on any device with stakes from 20 p/c to $/€100 per spin, the gameplay moves smoothly thanks to the tumble mechanic and the pay system. Together, they make the unusual, nonaligned reels far easier to follow than a static image suggests. On the loading screen, Pragmatic’s volatility meter shows 5/5—about as high as it goes. The RTP isn’t at the same level, but it’s still a solid 96.6% in default mode.
Even with that high volatility, the overall feel is fairly balanced. The free spins round appeared more frequently than initially expected—or dreaded. Naturally, results vary, but in testing there was less time spent staring at the feature buy button than is often the case.
Wins are formed when matching symbols land on adjacent reels starting from reel one, and they can appear in any row. As for the symbol set, there are 12 in total: four J-A royals, four space insignias, and four character symbols—two masked villains, a female heroine, and a male hero. The male character, who resembles Karl Urban from Chronicles of Riddick, pays the most at 15x the stake for six of a kind. The other three premium characters return 5 – 10 times the stake for their top hits.
Two types of wilds help boost winning chances. In the base game, the standard wild can land on reels 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 and substitutes for any regular paying symbol. The other wild versions appear as part of the features.
Star Bounty: Features

Star Bounty includes a healthy set of extras to keep things lively. One of them is the Tumble feature, which activates after every win. Winning symbols are removed, and new symbols fall into the gaps. Tumbles keep chaining until no further winning combination appears.
The winged, egg-like tile is the missile wild symbol, and it can land on reels 2, 3, or 4. When it appears, it launches missiles at a random number of symbols, transforming them into wilds.
The atom-styled hexagon is the scatter, and landing 3 or more on screen at the end of a spin sequence triggers free spins. Before the free spins start, you first determine how many you’ll receive, and that’s handled by the special respin feature. It begins with the triggering scatters locked in place. All remaining positions respin, and any new scatter that lands becomes locked and awards another respin. Once a respin produces no new scatters, the final count is totaled and the free spins are awarded—up to 24.
In free spins, wilds can appear carrying a x2 or x3 multiplier. If multiple wilds contribute to the same win, their multipliers are multiplied together. Free Spins seem to land fairly often, but if players want to jump straight in, they can be purchased for 75x the stake. Choosing the feature buy guarantees that the next spin will land 3 to 6 free spin scatter symbols.
Star Bounty: Verdict
Star Bounty ended up being a genuinely nice surprise from Pragmatic Play. Strong visuals paired with a fitting soundtrack create a great setting to play in. The reel layout is a bit unusual, but it complements the futuristic theme and works smoothly with the pay system. Add in a couple of practical features, and there isn’t much to complain about.
Tumbles help the base game maintain a pleasing rhythm, although it would have been a bonus if they were combined with a win multiplier during free spins. As it stands, the wild multipliers in the free spins round can still generate strong payouts on their own.
In testing, bonus-round wins were respectable without being spectacular, which may raise doubts about the game’s ceiling. Pragmatic states that 25,000x the stake is achievable. That’s enormous, but even if you triggered the full 24 free spins, you’d need to average over 1,000x per spin—does that sound realistic, or more like science fiction? By now, we also know Pragmatic’s advertised max win potential is often overly optimistic.
Beyond the win potential, the main drawback is that Star Bounty doesn’t bring much that’s truly new in terms of features. It looks distinctive, but at its core it’s still a 6-reel, win-all-ways setup. Still, what’s here works effectively, with each element fitting neatly into the next to deliver straightforward fun. Among sci-fi slots, Pragmatic’s Star Bounty ranks as one of the stronger options.
