Slurpy: Slot Overview

The old saying about not judging a book by its cover could just as easily apply to slots and their names. It’s not always easy, though, because plenty of titles pretty much spell out what you’re about to get. With Slurpy from ELK Studios, the name doesn’t immediately tell you much. What’s being slurped, and by whom? Give it a few spins and it quickly clicks. Without spoiling too much up front, Slurpy is packed with symbol-collecting gameplay, grid growth, feature symbols, and two bonus rounds – regular as well as super.

Visually, Slurpy feels like it’s set in a kitchen with Japanese touches, hinted at by details like a bonsai tree—perhaps a sushi kitchen plating up neat little bites. The exact theme is somewhat open to interpretation. It doesn’t have the loud visual punch that often comes with an ELK Studios slot, yet the presentation is balanced and tidy, and the soundtrack is pure feel-good.

Slurpy slot – base game

As for how Slurpy works, the active area begins each base game spin by dropping symbols into a 5×5 grid, with a collector—also called a Slurpie—positioned at the top. Every paid spin costs 20 c to $/€100, and there are five X-iter options if you want to speed things up. The game runs on a highly volatile model and delivers an RTP of 94%, whether you’re playing standard spins or using the X-iter feature buy selections.

There are no paylines or ways here; it’s also not a typical cluster pays or scatter pays setup. Instead, the paying symbols carry values that are awarded when the Slurpie at the top collects them. The smallest collection size is 1 to 3 matching symbols, paying 0.05 times the bet, while the biggest is a 40+ collection that returns 200 times the bet.

Slurpy: Slot Features

Slurpy includes 6 collectors (the Slurpies), with each one colour linked to corresponding pay symbols. A win is created when pay symbols can connect to their collector via a cleared path to the top row. When that happens, all connected symbols of the same type pay out and are then removed from the reels. Clearing all pay symbols expands the grid in 3 levels. The first level is 5×5, the next level is 6×6, and the last is 7×7. Clearing every symbol at the top level increases the global multiplier by +5. The global multiplier applies to every win.

The game starts with 1 Slurpie in view, which collects all matching pay symbols that have a cleared route to the top. If a win lands and there are no further winning symbols with a cleared path upward, then a new collector is added. The grid refills, and the new collector gathers any matching pay symbols with a cleared path to the top row. When nothing else can be collected, and a win has occurred since the latest collector arrived, the leftmost collector is removed, and a new collector is added. This loop continues until the collectors are unable to gather any more symbols.

Second Chance

When the collectors in view do not match the pay symbols, but one of the other collectors could collect all remaining pay symbols on the reels, the second chance feature activates. The leftmost collector is removed, adding a new collector.

Feature Symbols

All feature symbols, Coins, and bonus symbols activate when there is a clear path to the top row.

  • Coin – awards the value shown times the bet.
  • Multiplier – increases the global multiplier by its value.
  • Level Up – grows the grid up to 7×7.
  • Extra Slurpie – adds another Slurpie. Three collectors at the same time is the limit.
  • Super Straw – collects all pay symbols matching the Slurpie who uses the super straw, when the matching symbols do not have a clear path to the top row.
  • Long Straw – collects one cluster of matching pay symbols not connected to the top row.
  • Wild Symbol – connects any symbols it links to.
  • Double Symbol – can connect two different pay symbols.

Bonus Game

Landing 3 scatter symbols triggers 5 free drops. The number of Slurpies, the grid size, and the global multiplier carry into the bonus round and remain between free drops. The bonus begins with a fresh set of symbols on the grid. If one of the triggering scatters is a super scatter, the super bonus is awarded. In the super bonus, players receive 3 Slurpies and a 7×7 grid. Each newly collected scatter symbol adds +2 free drops.

X-iter

Slurpy’s X-iter menu offers the following bonus buy options:

  • Bonus Hunt – 3x the bet, each game round has more than triple the chance of triggering the bonus game.
  • Extra Collector – 10x the bet buys a game round with 3 collectors.
  • Coin Drop – 25x the bet buys a game round, guaranteeing Coins on the reels.
  • Bonus Game – 100x the bet.
  • Super Bonus Game – 500x the bet.

Slurpy: Slot Verdict

After wrapping up the Battle of Nitropolis series—ending with Nitropolis 5—it feels like ELK Studios may have wanted a break from the gritty, intense, high-energy style. Since then we’ve seen Squeeze and now Slurpy, two bright, bubbly releases that are about as far from Nitropolis as you can get. It was a strange experience loading up the last couple of ELK Studios games without that familiar rush, like you’re cresting a roller coaster right before the big drop. Slurpy initially gives off a calm, almost zen vibe, yet once you start spinning, it can be surprisingly engaging.

There’s no denying it stands out, and like a cascade-style game, the action can run long when the correctly coloured Slurpies keep sliding in from the side along the top to clear symbols away. On top of that, a range of feature symbols boosts the gameplay, covering everything from Coin payouts to grid expansions, the win multiplier, and more. The rhythm is reminiscent of a cluster-paying cascade slot, except here only clusters that can reach the top of the grid to be slurped will pay. It’s unusual, but Slurpy manages to make it work in a way that feels genuinely different, sitting comfortably alongside other ELK Studios experiments like Jeff & Scully, Sumo Sumo, and Night Trax.

Put simply, Slurpy is worth a spin, even if it’s just to see a style of reel-based action you probably haven’t come across elsewhere. With a 5,000x max win, it drops a level or two compared to the huge-potential titles ELK Studios has been delivering, but it’s still well worth demoing if you’re in the mood for something offbeat. There’s also something oddly relaxing about Slurpy’s slurping, bleeping, upbeat 8-bit personality—like a Eurovision act that knows it won’t take the trophy, but is loving every second on stage anyway.
