Samurai Code: Slot Overview

Samurai Code is an online slot from Pragmatic Play and partner studio Reel Kingdom, built around a free spins round where wild symbols collect fish Money symbol values, and where those wilds are also accumulated to unlock multipliers in retriggered sets of spins. Ringing any bells? That’s because, while it isn’t officially another entry in the two studios’ wildly prolific Big Bass line, it pretty much behaves like one. In fact, despite the clear shift in theme, Samurai Code is essentially a reskin of Bigger Bass Blizzard with an Asian flavour—fish collecting included.

Bigger Bass Blizzard (and the title it branched off from, Bigger Bass Bonanza) expanded on the original Big Bass Bonanza in several respects. One change was a bigger playfield, adding an extra reel plus 2, yes 2, additional paylines. That exact framework returns in Samurai Code, which runs on a 5-reel, 4-row layout with 12 paylines, making stake selection a touch clunky. Visually, it swaps beanie-wearing, sunglasses-and-puffer-jacket anglers for Japanese noble warriors. It looks fine, but it’s Reel Kingdom—so don’t expect the slot equivalent of a pristine Japanese woodblock masterpiece.

On the plus side, the betting spread is broad, starting at 12 c per spin up to a maximum of $/€240. You can also enable the ante bet, which gives a higher chance of triggering the feature in exchange for an extra 50% on the stake. Either way, the RTP remains the same at the default 96.08%, and the volatility is high.

Any fishing nods stop at the Money symbols, as the paytable itself lists 10-A card ranks for the low end, followed by dragonflies, swords, a coffer of money, and a lady character as the premium symbols. Five matching royals return 10 times the bet, while five of the high symbols pay 50 to 200 times the bet. Fish symbols can also appear, and if 5 of them form a winning line, they pay out the cash amounts shown on them. Wilds show up only during free spins, where one of their roles is to substitute for every symbol except the scatter.

Samurai Code: Slot Features

Samurai Code’s feature set feels almost too familiar, because it’s lifted straight from the Big Bass family formula. Specifically, it’s free spins where wilds gather Money symbol values, and then those wilds are tracked as well, ultimately boosting Money symbol collection via multipliers.

Money Symbol

The fish act as the Money symbol. Each spin, Money symbols display a random value of 2x to 4,000 times the bet. The amounts shown on fish Money symbols can be collected during free spins.

Free Spins

Landing 3, 4, or 5 scatter symbols anywhere on the reels triggers 10, 15, or 20 free spins, respectively. If exactly 2 scatters are visible in the base game, there’s a chance a sword appears and brings a third scatter onto the screen. In free spins, every wild symbol collects the values of any Money symbols on the reels. All wild symbols that land are also collected. Each fourth collected wild symbol retriggers the feature, granting +10 free spins plus a multiplier for Money symbol collection. The multiplier is x2 for the first retrigger, x3 for the second retrigger, and x10 for the third retrigger.

At random, when there are only 1 or 2 wilds on the screen, at the end of a free spin, Money symbols may appear in random positions. In addition, randomly, 1 or 2 swords may appear at the end of a spin and pull the reels upwards to reveal wild and Money symbols.

Buy Free Spins

You can purchase the free spins feature for 100x the current total bet. When you buy it, 3, 4, or 5 scatter symbols will randomly land on the triggering spin, and the RTP is 96.07%.

Samurai Code: Slot Verdict

Is it “uncannily similar,” or is it simply wearing thin now? The amusing part is that Bigger Bass Blizzard was already a very close (though not perfectly identical) rework of Bigger Bass Bonanza, complete with small tweaks and a reduced RTP. The momentum behind this formula is relentless. The Big Bass catalogue at this stage brings to mind that moment in the TV series Chernobyl where a test spirals beyond control—and we all know how that ended.

Thankfully, the Big Bass craze isn’t actually hazardous, but it is starting to feel a bit samey. There’s nothing inherently wrong with what each individual slot offers; it’s more that the constant variations, additions, and “new” ideas are tough to track, and they can blur together. When the changes go somewhere worthwhile—like Big Bass Amazon Xtreme—no complaints. But when it’s a questionable reskin, it’s harder not to yawn. Setting the cynicism aside, if Samurai Code’s style works for you, its 4,000x the bet win cap is a fairly average/standard target for a BB-adjacent release.

Prag, Reel Kingdom and Big Bass Bonanza—it’s starting to feel like a habit, but if it’s paying off for both studios, fair enough. Plenty of players will be happy to see the familiar feature set roll on, while others will be increasingly tired of the repetition. Still, at least Samurai Code is a copy of Bigger Bass Blizzard rather than the grim Star Pirates Code.
