Unfortunately, a “quantity over quality” strategy rarely pays off over time. Going through our notes, five of the last seven Pragmatic titles we’ve covered were jackpot slots, and with how bland and repetitive most of them have felt, it’s hard not to conclude the studio is running short on fresh ideas. After launching Medusa Strike, it doesn’t take long to see that this is, regrettably, yet another recycled jackpot slot.

The standard 97.09% RTP is certainly attractive, though it may be set lower depending on the casino, so it’s always wise to confirm the paytable.

Plenty of slots over the years have drawn on the snake-haired gorgon, and while the theme itself has limits, the visual execution can vary a lot. Medusa Strike lands somewhere in the middle: it’s solid and serviceable, but still fairly plain overall. The standout is the dramatic soundtrack, which adds a suitably ominous tone. Set among the lofty realms of the Greek gods with a greenish hue, the reels feature A to 9 royals alongside higher-value winged Pegasus horses, Cretan bulls, lions, and Achilles. Medusa is the best-paying symbol, with 5 of a kind awarding 5.2 times your stake. The wild symbol, shown as a temple, can land on all reels except the first and works as expected, substituting for all symbols apart from the scatter.

Any time a wild lands in the base game, it has a chance to randomly activate the Jackpot Bonus Game. Be sure to watch for the snake scatter as well, since 3 or more landing on consecutive reels starting from the first will trigger the Free Spins feature with 10 spins. On top of that, the round adds 10 extra spins whenever 3 or more scatters appear during the feature, with no cap on how many times this can happen. In Free Spins, the reels are upgraded to include only high-paying symbols, which should translate into bigger wins, at least in principle. The maximum payout for this feature is 850 times your stake.

Considering how underwhelming many releases have been this year, Pragmatic Play would be better served spending less effort chasing Twitch exposure through casino streamers and more time developing games that can stand on their own. In a market this competitive, continually pushing out lukewarm titles like this isn’t a sustainable approach. While a few other once-promising studios have slowed down lately, Pragmatic Play appears to have lost its direction entirely.

At this stage, the provider badly needs a real standout hit. Sadly, Medusa Strike feels more like a hurdle than an achievement. It might have some value as an option for wagering bonus money (assuming it’s running at the highest RTP), but beyond that there isn’t much here to hold your attention. Ultimately, the issues aren’t occasional annoyances—they shape the entire experience.
