Set on an 8×8 grid and playable from 10 cents to 100€ per spin, wins are formed when clusters of identical symbols connect horizontally or vertically. If you’ve played other Play’n GO grid slots, Mahjong 88 will feel very familiar, since it shares many hallmark mechanics. One example is the genre-typical meter that, once filled, triggers the Fortune Frog feature. There’s also a Super Charge mode that multiplies all wins by 5. • Spring – can award up to 12 wilds appearing randomly on the grid.
• Summer –  can award up to 5 wilds and also destroy adjacent symbols.
• Autumn –  can award up to 11 wilds, with symbols removed from edges or turning wild.
• Winter –  can award up to 4 wilds that remain in place even when included in a winning combination.

Each season runs for between 25 and 99 spins, progressing from spring to summer to autumn and then winter, before the cycle begins again. In addition, every win increases the Season Bonus, which is paid out when a new season starts. This bonus rises by 10% of each win amount.

It’s clear that this isn’t true Mahjong, but rather a slot that borrows the look of the traditional game. As a result, the theme can feel a bit flat and busy, with tiles that may be hard on the eyes and a soundtrack so subdued there’s a genuine chance you’ll nod off.
