Even if the Legion Gold gameplay doesn’t do much for you, the series usually looks the part, and Legion Gold Reckoning continues that trend. This time, players stand with what appears to be Ceaser on a terrace overlooking a city, with a grand amphitheatre perched on a hill as he takes in the Empire’s might. During Mega Spins, however, the scene turns far less triumphant—the city is ablaze, with flames consuming the backdrop. It’s oddly reflective: one day an empire feels unstoppable, perhaps even eternal; the next, it’s nothing but ash and memory. Everything in the three-dimensional realm seems to have its beginning, its peak, and its eventual fade into oblivion. Anyway.

Legion Gold Reckoning plays out on a 5×3 grid with 25 paylines, checking wins from the leftmost reel. In line with the rest of the Legion Gold range so far, Legion Gold Reckoning is classed as medium volatile, and at its highest RTP setting it offers 96.2%. Alongside selecting a wager of $/€0.10 to $/€50, players can also enable the Go Ultra ante bet.

The animal premium symbols stand out nicely, featuring an eagle, horse, bull, and lion. A 5 OAK hit pays 8x to 20x the bet. Below those sit the J-A royals, which return 2x the bet for five-of-a-kind. The wild substitutes for all symbols except scatters, Gold Coins, and the Gold Coin Bag. Wilds can appear on every reel and share the same payout values as the lion.

Legion Gold Reckoning: Slot Features

Most of the feature set will feel familiar, with Gold Respins and Mega Spins making their return, though Legion Gold Reckoning also introduces a Coin Chest that can hand out local jackpot prizes.

Gold Respins

Landing 6 Gold Coins in the base game activates 3 Gold Respins, during which only Gold Coins and the Gold Coin Bag may appear. Gold Coins remain sticky, and hitting another one resets the spin count. Once the respins finish, each Gold Coin reveals a value of 1x to 1,000x the stake, and the combined amount is paid out. If Gold Coins completely fill the grid, an extra 1,000x Golden Prize is added on top of the Gold Coin values shown on the reels.

Gold Coin Bag

Landing a Gold Coin Bag pays the total value of every Gold Coin currently on the reels. During Gold Respins, Gold Coins may be collected multiple times. While Gold Coin Bags do not stick in respins, they do reset the spin count.

Coin Chest

When Gold Coins land without a Gold Coin Bag and without triggering Gold Respins, they are collected by the Coin Chest. When this occurs, there is a chance the Coin Chest opens, launching a Picker Game. Selecting three of the same prize awards that amount. Possible rewards are the 10x Mini, 25x Minor, 100x Major, or the 500x Grand Prize.

Mega Spins

Landing 3 scatters awards 5 Mega Spins. On each spin, the 3×3 Mega symbol drops into a random position. Mega Spins can be retriggered by landing the Mega Scatter, up to a cap of 45 spins. Gold Respins may also be triggered during free spins by landing the Mega Gold Coin, which splits into 9 Gold Coins with random values. After the respins conclude, play resumes in Mega Spins.

Go Ultra

With Go Ultra enabled, the feature increases the stake by 50%, making animal symbols appear more frequently in the base game and increasing the number of awarded Mega Spins to 6. The number of awarded Gold Coin Respins is increased to 4, too.

Legion Gold Reckoning: Slot Verdict

Legion Gold Reckoning sticks closely to the series’ “if it ain’t broke, don’ t fix it” philosophy. Legion Gold established the core framework, and later releases have introduced tweaks along the way. Those changes have included the Victory Prize and the Golden Prize, and Legion Gold Reckoning brings a couple of additions of its own. One is the Coin Chest—and yes, it’s similar to the earlier Victory Prize—but here the rewards are spelled out more clearly and tied to a Picker Game. The prizes are displayed beside the reels, and that presentation places Legion Gold Reckoning squarely in the local jackpot category, which will either delight or bore players depending on taste.

From a slot enthusiast’s point of view, the Go Ultra option may be the more notable inclusion. It isn’t unique to Legion Gold Reckoning, but it’s also not an especially common add-on, at least at the time of writing. Titles like Mandalay Bay Riches and Rise of Olympus 1000 used it too, so it does seem to be appearing more often. Maybe Play’n GO will push further into bonus buys in future Legion Gold entries; we’ll see. For now, bonus rounds in Legion Gold Reckoning only arrive naturally, leading either to the fairly straightforward Gold Coin Respins feature or the Mega symbol Wolf Gold-like round.

One more point that sets Legion Gold Reckoning apart from earlier LG slots is its significantly higher win potential of 10,000x the bet, which is more than twice what its counterparts offer. Still, that larger ceiling may not be enough to win over players who haven’t enjoyed the previous games. On the plus side, anyone already invested in the series should appreciate the developer’s familiar “same, but more” direction once again.
