Lava Balls: Slot Overview
Editor’s note: This review is based on an early access version of the game. We may update the review after the full release if necessary.
Plinko is a well-known pastime (even if it’s dwarfed by Japan’s multi-trillion yen pachinko gambling industry), and it has firmly made its way into online gambling too. Print Studios’ Pine of Plinko, Pine of Plinko 2 and Pond of Plinko are great entry points if this format catches your interest, and Quickspin’s Pearl O’ Plinko slots are also dependable picks. Pragmatic Play’s partner Wild Streak Gaming has joined the party with Lava Balls. Despite the name, it’s not a cheeky nickname for anyone—this is a Greek mythology-leaning slot that blends standard ways-to-win play with plenty of ball-dropping action.
While the game and its supporting info don’t explicitly spell it out, Lava Balls’ visuals strongly suggest a story tied to Persephone, the underworld goddess who ate pomegranate seeds after being taken by Hades, linking her to the underworld for part of the year—a familiar symbol of the cycle of life and death. Accordingly, Lava Balls unfolds in a subterranean realm of stone and lava… plus Plinko. The last part isn’t an obvious thematic match, but balls dropping into prize pots are central to Lava Balls throughout every stage of play.

Getting started (pun avoided) means selecting a stake between $/€0.25 minimum and $/€250 maximum. On the maths side, Lava Balls is a highly volatile slot, offering a top RTP of 96.5% whether you’re playing normally or using the feature buy. The main playfield is a 5×3 grid with 243 ways to win.
All paying symbols award wins left to right starting from the leftmost reel. Card ranks 10-A pay 0.2x to 0.8x for 5 OAK, while 5 matching pomegranates, arrow heads, boats, female characters, and male character symbols return 1x to 4x the bet. Wilds appear on the middle three reels and substitute for all regular paying symbols.
Lava Balls: Slot Features

In Lava Balls, the core gimmick is exactly what it sounds like: dropping balls into prize pots. This happens via the Lava Balls Wild Multiplier feature, although the biggest ball-drop moment arrives at the end of free spins, when the balls you’ve collected cascade down to hand out prizes.
Lava Balls Wild Multiplier
7 pots are positioned along the bottom of the screen in the base game, each showing random multipliers of x1 to x1,000 and free spins on every spin. When at least one wild lands and forms part of a winning combination, a ball drops through a pin grid before payouts are applied, eventually settling into one of the pots. If it lands in a pot showing a multiplier, all wins that include wilds on that spin are boosted by that multiplier. If it drops into a pot showing free spins, the free spins round is triggered.
Free Spins
Landing 3 or more scatters or dropping a ball into a free spins pot grants 12 free spins. At the start of the round, the pots at the bottom display random money values of 0.2x to 200x the bet. After each spin, the leftmost and rightmost pots increase in value by 0.2x to 120x the bet. The Extra Pot Values symbol can appear on the reels with a value of 0.2x to 200x the bet, and that amount is added to the pot beneath it for the rest of the round. The Lava Balls Wild Multiplier feature may also trigger during free spins, and when it does, the pots at the bottom of the screen temporarily transform into random multiplier values.
Lava Balls symbols can land on the leftmost reel, and the Ball Drop symbol can land on the rightmost reel with a random number of balls from 1 to 100. When both a Lava Balls and Balls Drop symbol appear on the same spin, the Ball Drop’s ball count is added to a meter. Once the round ends, a number of balls equal to the meter total drop through a grid of pins into the pots beneath the screen. For each ball, the amount shown on the pot it lands in is added to the total win. Finally, landing an Additional Free Spins symbol awards an extra +1-5 free spins.
Feature Buy
The free spins feature can be purchased from the base game for 100x the total bet.

Lava Balls: Slot Verdict
As a playable blend of slot mechanics and Plinko, Lava Balls is an enjoyable choice. We’ve already seen how flexible Plinko can be inside a slot (the titles mentioned earlier are good examples), and Lava Balls adds another variation to the mix. It isn’t presented as slickly as Print Studios’ efforts and doesn’t have the same woodland charm, but mythology remains a strong draw in slots, so Lava Balls may resonate more with a different slice of players.
On top of that, Lava Balls is among the more refined releases from Wild Streak Gaming. Their games can sometimes feel strangely old-fashioned visually—think 3 Dancing Monkeys or Lucky Lightning—whereas Lava Balls looks closer to something Pragmatic Play itself could have put out. Maybe the two studios worked more closely than usual? Hard to say, but the base game transitions into the bonus and back as smoothly as you’d hope, even if the big win count-ups remain as cheesy as ever. It’s also a welcome touch that the Lava Balls Wild Multiplier feature can deliver some ball-dropping excitement in the base game. Still, the real peak arrives at the end of free spins, when the stored balls are released to tumble into whatever prize values have built up in the pots, creating that classic Plinko tension as they bounce toward—or away from—the bigger numbers.
The overall potential could have been stronger than the 4,800x cap, and the max win probability isn’t particularly impressive for a Pragmatic Play release. So, players who want to chase larger headline stats in a Plinko-style game will find better alternatives. For anyone after slot action mixed with Plinko unpredictability in a molten setting, Lava Balls delivers some fun moments, but it doesn’t quite have the punch to lead the increasingly crowded field of Plinko-slot hybrids.
