Joker King: Slot Overview
If you like your slots packed with fruit symbols and a jazzy vibe, Pragmatic Play delivers with its harlequin-themed title Joker King. With games like this, it’s easy to feel that once you’ve tried one, you’ve basically tried them all—especially if the theme doesn’t really grab you. Think of tennis: to some, it’s hours of watching a ball go back and forth in the heat; to others, it’s pure tension and spectacle. Joker-style slots land the same way. Some players wonder why yet another familiar entry is needed, while others are happy to jump into the celebration again. Right up front, Joker King isn’t going to convert either camp. So, with expectations set, it’s time to dive back into the world of fruit, disco, and jokers.
Joker King is Pragmatic Play’s fifth entry in this particular niche, so the studio clearly has plenty of experience with the formula—and it shows. The action runs on a 6-reel, 4-row layout with 25 paylines available for landing winning combos. On the right side, a joker character sways along with a fistful of gold, occasionally tossing wild symbols onto the reels. Beyond that, it’s mostly a glowing purple backdrop and a pile of coins perched above the gold-trimmed frame. In short, Joker King keeps things clean, colorful, and very much in line with the established blueprint.
The soundtrack is where it strays a little from the expected. Most of the time you’ll hear the familiar funky backing track typical of these games, but when things pick up, the audio ramps up too—throwing in extra touches like circus-style jingles and even hints of ska. It feels like Pragmatic Play let the music be the place to experiment, while the rest of Joker King stays more by-the-numbers.
Despite being a highly volatile slot, the overall feel was noticeably softer than anticipated. There’s no published hit rate or free spins frequency, yet both seemed to appear more often than expected—free spins in particular. That may simply have been a lucky stretch during testing, but either way, Joker King didn’t come across as anywhere near as punishing as a 5 out of 5 volatility rating implies. As with many Pragmatic Play releases, the default RTP is solid, and Joker King sits at 96.5%. It’s playable across devices, with stakes ranging from 25 p/c to $/€125.
Joker King includes six standard paying symbols, and they pay left to right on adjacent reels starting from the leftmost reel. The lineup is oranges, plums, cherries, BARs, 7s, and stars. Winning combinations can stretch to six symbols, and when they do, they return between 1 to 5 times the stake. Wilds are central to how the features work, which is covered next.
Joker King: Slot Features

The remaining two symbols in Joker King are the wild and the scatter. The wild can land on any reel and pays up to 5x the bet for a six-of-a-kind line. Any time a wild appears, once the spin ends, one symbol type is randomly selected, and the joker converts every instance of that symbol into wilds. After the change, wins are evaluated and paid.
The scatter can also show up on all reels and appears as a crown. Whenever a scatter lands, it comes with a random multiplier of 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x, or 25x, and that multiplier applies to the total win on the current spin. If multiple scatters land, their multipliers stack by adding together. The paytable states that three or more scatters pay 1x the bet, but in practice the game awards the sum of the visible scatter multipliers multiplied by the current stake when this happens.
Hitting 3 or more scatters also activates the bonus round, meaning 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters award 8, 10, 15, or 20 free spins. During free spins, wild symbols land on every spin, setting off the wild replacement feature described above. Free spins can be retriggered in the same way while the bonus is running, with no cap.
Joker King: Slot Verdict
Pragmatic Play has done enough here to keep the intended audience entertained, and Joker King provides the rapid, disco-tinged pace joker-slot fans usually want. The bonus round is especially quick, since at least one wild landing on every spin causes frequent symbol conversions. The downside is that symbol values are low, so it’s common to nearly fill the grid and still only end up with something like a 20x payout. Bigger results are possible, of course, and if several strong scatter multipliers land, the game is kept in check by a win cap of 5,000x the bet.
More controversially, the reel setup and paylines may put some players off. A 25 paylines structure can feel dated, though it arguably fits the old-school joker theme. If Pragmatic Play had opted for a 4,096 ways mechanic, the transformation feature would almost certainly have become much less frequent. With symbol values already extremely low, there wouldn’t have been much room to reduce them further to balance the extra ways. Joker Wild would have turned into a very different game with features triggering far less often—something that likely wouldn’t suit the audience it’s aiming for.
All told, Joker King should do the job for fans of this genre—at least for the few minutes before the next similar title arrives.
