Jack: Slot Overview

Among the darker themes that occasionally surface in online slots is Jack the Ripper, the infamous serial killer who haunted London’s East End in the 19th century and was never identified. For some reason, prowling Whitechapel’s streets and trying to avoid sharp, stabby objects has appealed to more than a few game developers. It clearly appealed to software provider Wicked Games, which created the slasher slot Jack—a title that, notably, shares several connections with the studio’s debut, Sidekick Jack. That first outing didn’t exactly make waves, so the question is whether this Jack performs any better.

Choosing a Jack the Ripper setting does narrow the visual palette somewhat. That’s not to say a studio can’t do something striking with it, but games in this lane often lean on the same ominous, nighttime Victorian London backdrop. The kind of place you’d rather not wander after dark—particularly if you happened to be a lady of the night. Jack recreates this grim slice of history on the reels well enough, though it’s hardly a standout presentation. The reels sit on the back of a coach rolling through a moonlit street, and the atmosphere is clear, but Jack doesn’t quite deliver the extra touches that could have made it genuinely chilling.

Jack slot – base game

Jack’s main playfield—its shadowy alleyway, if you like—is a 6×4 grid with 50 paylines paying wins left to right from the first reel. Wicked Games has kept the volatility low, assigning it a 1 out of 5 rating, alongside an RTP of 96.11%. Bets run from $/€0.25 to a possible $/€500 per spin, and selecting the ante bet increases the wager by 1.4x to increase the chance of triggering free spins.

Symbols include low-paying royals from 10-A, plus five higher-value character icons. A 6-of-a-kind line of royals returns 0.8x to 2x the bet, while 6 matching character symbols pays 3x to 10x. Wilds can land on every reel except the leftmost one, substituting for all symbols except the scatter.

Jack: Slot Features

There are no features to speak of in the base game, so it’s only when you land 3 scatters and collect 10 free spins that Jack finally gets to work. Scatters appear exclusively on the three rightmost reels, and three of them also award a 2x bet payout. In free spins, any wild that lands transforms into a sticky wild and remains in place until the feature ends.

The bonus can be retriggered by landing a scatter-wild. If a scatter-wild hits the leftmost reel, it grants +5 free spins. Scatter-wilds substitute for all symbols. Free spins may be retriggered only once, and after that the scatter-wild is removed from the remaining free spins.

Feature Buy

In addition to triggering the feature naturally with 3 scatters, the bonus round can be purchased for 70x their stake.

Jack: Slot Verdict

A strange one. It feels like Wicked Games took Sidekick Jack, shortened the name, and then repackaged most of the same mechanics under a different theme. It’s a curious decision, though not a particularly thrilling one, since Sidekick Jack didn’t exactly get the pulse racing when it was reviewed—held back by uneven visuals, lacklustre features, and drowsy stats. Fair enough, everyone starts somewhere. Still, it’s odd that Wicked Games has returned to Sidekick Jack for another attempt. This version is arguably more visually consistent and less muddled, but overall it isn’t a major step up. The theme and skin feel somewhat half-committed, and with no meaningful additions to the gameplay, Jack is about as difficult to get excited about as Sidekick Jack was.

On the gameplay side, the base game offers very little, and the lack of features doesn’t help. Free spins are a slight improvement. Sticky wilds are sticky wilds—they can be satisfying when several lock in and start producing repeated wins. But this is a well-worn mechanic, and Jack doesn’t add anything fresh, skipping any supporting side feature or inventive twist. As a result, the entertainment value and the upside feel similarly constrained, with a maximum win of 1,500x the bet.

In the end, Jack comes across as an unusual replay of the decidedly average Sidekick Jack. Even with some visual clean-up, it doesn’t bring the imagination, suspense, or impact needed to rise above the competition. Sticky wilds behave as expected, and Jack the Ripper collectors may want to tick it off the list, but there isn’t much here that’s easy to recommend.
