Hit it Hard: Overview
ELK’s newest neon-soaked spectacle is the sixth release in their Classic Series. It’s been roughly six months since the last entry, Win Win, and although both titles are fruit-slot classics at heart, the added mechanics feel refreshingly distinct. Hit it Hard introduces an original dice game where players travel around a mini-game board with the end goal of breaking the bank. In keeping with the game’s brisk style, we’ll skip the small talk and jump straight into the spins.
The first thing that really hits is the soundtrack blasting through your speakers. It feels like a mash-up of every 90s sitcom and game show intro. ELK Studios leans into a big band sound, complete with a full horn section and a guitar hero shredding on top. The effects are strong as well, delivering those familiar slot bleeps and clicks. As with the rest of the Classic Series, ELK has recreated the sleek, modern flat-top slot experience perfectly on your device. Equalizer-style visuals finish the look, creating a retro slot that feels far more intense and lively than many others in this niche.
The main objective is to get the dice rolling, but step one is choosing your stake. You can play between 20 p/c – $/€100 per spin, or opt for one of four pre-set bet strategies. These can be switched on or off whenever you like, and they’re definitely not for everyone. When they work in your favor, they’re brilliant; when they don’t, they can feel like the most irritating addition imaginable. It’s very much down to personal taste. The base game itself is extremely straightforward, using a 3×3 reel layout with only 5 paylines, which are worth getting familiar with via the paytable.
Sticking with the stripped-back approach, wins are formed only by 3 matching symbols. The icons are all classic industry staples, arranged into three sets of three. The low pays are cherries, lemons, and watermelons. The mid tier features green, blue, and red BARS. At the top are green, blue, and red 7s, paying 10, 25 and 50 times your stake respectively for a 3-of-a-kind. The last regular symbol is the wild, which appears only on reel three. If it lands but doesn’t contribute to a win, that reel locks in place while the other two respin to give you another shot. Better still, the wild may also carry a x2, x3, x4, or x5 multiplier to boost the payout.
Any multiplier is welcome here, especially to help counter a low hit rate of 15.9%, while volatility swings the other way with a high score of 8 out of 10. RTP comes in at a solid 96.3%, and overall the math model felt nicely balanced. During testing, it enabled the bonus game to trigger multiple times, which is really what this bright, 90s throwback is all about.
Hit it Hard: Features

Besides the Wild Respin we’ve already covered, the other major attraction is the bonus board game positioned above the reels. To activate it, the dice symbol must land in the middle spot of reel three. Before the board sequence begins, that dice symbol first transforms into a x10 wild and any resulting wins are paid. The board contains 23 spaces offering different mini-games, and a random dice roll determines how you move around it. The spaces fall into the following categories:
- Stacked Wilds: get a spin with Stacked Wilds on reel 2, then on reel 3. Then a final spin with Stacked Wilds on reels 2 and 3 simultaneously.
- Wild 10 Spins: get 10 spins with multiplier wilds guaranteed to land on reel 3.
- Quantum Leap: players make a leap around the board which can be much bigger than a dice roll.
- Power Run: this awards every feature you pass on a move. So roll a 6 and playout 6 squares rather than just the final space from the roll.
- Lucky Ballz: a game of pachinko with 4 ball drops to collect multipliers up to 500x the stake.
- Super Ballz: the same as Lucky Ballz except balls continue to drop until 2 land on the same multiplier.
- The key: players collect a key symbol.
- The vault: land here with two collected key symbols to Break the Bank with the maximum win.
- The remaining symbols award free spins with or without multipliers.
You keep travelling around the board as long as each set of awarded spins produces at least one win. If you hit a feature such as Super Ballz where no spins are involved, you’re granted another dice roll automatically.
Hit it Hard: Verdict
Will fans of ELK’s Classic Series enjoy what they’ve built with Hit it Hard? Absolutely. It delivers the familiar look and feel of the range, but pairs it with genuinely new feature ideas, making it a strong addition that should keep series followers entertained. ELK’s goal with Hit it Hard was to transport players back to a neon-heavy 90s atmosphere, and they’ve achieved it. It carries that Equalizer-style energy, but with simplified rules and gameplay. The added features are implemented well, and they’re as enjoyable as they are nerve-racking once they kick in. The board game, in particular, triggered more often than expected, and the sessions tended to run for a satisfying amount of time. Wins also seemed to show up more frequently while the dice game was active, which helped keep it going. Overall, there’s plenty here for fans to look forward to.
That said, it isn’t without drawbacks. For starters, the potential is only half of what Win Win offers at 2,500 times the stake. The hit rate is also roughly 3% lower, which feels a bit ironic given the game’s “hit it hard” theme, though the higher volatility makes that outcome more understandable. On the upside, the RTP is a touch higher this time.
All in all, Hit it Hard is a solid entry in the Classic Series and highlights what the line does best: straightforward retro play combined with modern styling and feature design. The end result is a quick-moving slot that can deliver plenty of entertaining moments—just with the caveat that other games in the series beat it on some of the most important stats.
