Hammerstorm: Slot Overview
Pragmatic Play clearly enjoys leaning on gods and legends, and for this release they’ve brought in one of the best-known figures in slot themes. The name Hammerstorm makes it pretty obvious who takes centre stage here. That’s right: the brawny Viking god Thor, famous for thunder, lightning, and his hammer. This time around, the studio combines him with a respins mechanic and a three collection pot setup, capable of boosting the bonus round with up to three separate modifiers.
Hammerstorm paints an attractive backdrop, showing a verdant valley of rolling green hills, winding water, and Viking homes dotted along both sides of the screen. A longship sits in the harbour, and far away a golden structure glows on a hill in the sunlight, hinting at Asgard. Snow-topped mountains and an otherworldly sky add scale, and overall the game portrays a prosperous, timeless culture—though in a fairly familiar, generic way.

Winning combinations pay left to right starting from the leftmost reel, calculated across 40 paylines on a 5×3 gaming area. Players can stake $/€0.20 to $/€240 per spin, and there are two optional ante bets. Ante Bet 1 is priced at 50x and ensures one Thor symbol appears on every spin, while Ante Bet 2 costs 100x and guarantees at least 5 Lightning symbols per spin. No matter which option is used, the RTP is 96.5% and volatility is high.
Symbols range from J through A at the low end, then horns, gauntlets, helmets, axes, and shields at the top. Landing 5 OAK of a royal returns 1 times the bet, while 5 OAK of a premium pays 1.75x the bet. Wilds can appear on any reel and replace standard paying symbols. A 5-symbol wild combination awards 50x the stake.
Hammerstorm: Slot Features

Most of Hammerstorm’s gameplay revolves around Lightning symbols, a Thor symbol, and a respins mode that can run with up to three modifiers enabled.
Lightning & Thor Symbols
Three types of Lightning symbols can land in the base game. When Red, Green, or Purple Lightning symbols appear, they are collected after the spin by the Double, Expand, or Spins chests positioned above the reels. When collected, there is a chance they will activate the respins feature, with the Double, Expand, or Spins modifier selected at random. It’s possible for one, two, or three modifiers to be randomly triggered at once, and any that trigger will remain active throughout respins. Lightning symbols also act as money symbols in the base game, carrying values from 0.5x to 10,000x the bet. The Thor symbol can also show up on the leftmost reel. If Thor lands together with at least 1 Lightning symbol, the respins round will automatically trigger.
Respins Feature
The bonus starts with 5 respins on a 5×5 grid, where coins, lightning symbols, or blanks may land. Silver and Gold coins plus Silver and Gold lightning symbols can appear with values from 0.5x to 10,000x, while Gold versions only appear when the Double modifier is active. A +1 spin can also land if the Spins modifier is active. A 2×2 highlighted zone collects the values of any coins or lightning symbols that land within it, including all triggering lightning symbols at the start. The zone then moves around the grid to gather newly appearing lightning symbols. Any collected lightning symbols fill a meter. Once 5 are collected, the zone expands to 3×3 and +3 extra respins are granted. After 4 more are collected, it grows to 4×4 with +2 additional respins. Collecting a further 3 collected symbols expands the zone to 5×5 and awards +1 more respin. There are three possible modifiers:
- Double – Gold versions of Lightnings and Coins may appear. Collecting Gold versions of symbols collects values from them twice, the initial value plus a second random value.
- Expand – The round is played on a 7×7 grid, and the highlighted zone can expand beyond 5×5 to 6×5, 6×6, and 7×6 by collecting 3 lighting symbols for each expansion. Players win an extra 3, 3, 3, 2, 1 respins for each expansion over 2×2.
- Spins – The +1 Spin value may appear, which grants an extra respin when collected.

Hammerstorm: Slot Verdict
Hammerstorm is another entry in the ever-expanding three collection pot category. Push Gaming has been leaning into its Push Pots concept for a while (with 3 Magic Pots, for instance), and Games Global studios have been using similar ideas for years. The format seems to be gaining momentum, and Hammerstorm is a reasonably engaging pick for anyone who already enjoys this kind of setup.
Beyond that, you’ll likely need to be a fan of the three chests and three modifiers approach to stay invested over time. The base game isn’t especially lively, mostly revolving around watching for Lightning symbols, with the odd low-paying line win in between. Thor symbols can improve things, as they trigger respins automatically when they appear alongside Lightning symbols. Without Thor, the “will it trigger?” tension from collecting lightning may still keep players interested for a while. The respins round does bring something a bit different, although NetEnt’s Piggy Riches 3—reviewed shortly before this—also used a comparable moving collection zone during its free spins. The expanding zone and extra respins create anticipation, and it offers an alternative to classic sticky money symbols or Big Bass-style collector symbol gameplay. One extra point: the 100x Ante Bet may drop 5 Lightning symbols, but it doesn’t ensure respins will start. That can mean chewing through a portion of the bankroll before reaching the bonus. The Thor symbol ante bet carries the same kind of risk.
Hammerstorm’s respins feature was decent, and with a win cap of 10,000x, there’s potential for big outcomes, while the moving zone mechanic adds a small twist. Still, parts of the game felt a little dated and somewhat plain, so unless the three pot style really appeals, Hammerstorm lands as fairly middle-of-the-road.
