Fruitopolis Fortune Play: Slot Overview

Joining the endless parade of fruit-themed slots found just about everywhere is another entry from Blueprint Gaming called Fruitopolis. That title will either spark a little excitement for fans of the genre or trigger a sense of dread, depending on how you feel about this style of game. True to its name, Fruitopolis is packed with fruity symbols and is split into two distinct modes. One is Standard Play; the other is Fortune Play, which changes the rules significantly and also alters the price of a spin. Alongside the two modes, the game includes a pay adjacent mechanic, Golden Chip mystery symbols, and Money Spins.

Conventional, predictable, and unapologetically old-school are all fair ways to sum up Fruitopolis, depending on your mindset. In Standard Mode, the action takes place on a single 5-reel, 4-row grid set against a red, diamond-pattern backdrop that looks like padded club walling. Visually, there’s little here that stands out—this is very much a “you’ve seen it before” presentation.

Fruitopolis runs smoothly across devices, and the betting setup comes with a couple of choices. First, you’ll need to decide if you want Standard Play, where stakes run from 10 p/c to $/€100 per spin. Alternatively, you can switch into Fortune Play by pressing the bright square button beneath the reels. This is the higher-stakes option, pushing wagers to $/€2 to $/€200, and the specifics of how it works are explained in the next section. One more thing to note: Fruitopolis is a highly volatile slot, and its RTP ranges from 95.06% to 95.38%.

Altogether, the grid uses 20 fixed paylines, with wins formed when three or more matching symbols land on adjacent reels along them. Unlike many slots, though, combinations can start from any reel rather than being restricted to reel one. From the lower end of the paytable upward, the symbols are 10-A card ranks, cherries, lemons, plums, and 7s. Five-of-a-kind card ranks pay 5-10 times the stake, while the higher symbols return 15-25 times the bet. Despite the fruit-heavy lineup, Fruitopolis does not use wild symbols at any time.

Fruitopolis Fortune Play: Slot Features

There are a couple of additional special symbols worth watching for as well: diamond scatters that activate Money Spins, plus Golden Chip mystery symbols.

Money Spins

The Money Spins bonus round starts when any number of diamond scatter symbols hit. Once triggered, you receive 3 respins in a straightforward hold-and-win style feature. Diamond scatters are sticky, meaning they stay locked in place and reveal a cash prize. Each time new diamonds land, they reset the spin counter back to three. When the feature ends, all visible cash values are totalled and paid out.

Golden Chips

When Golden Chip symbols appear, they all transform into the same pay symbol type. After that, the game checks for wins. Golden Chips may also turn into Money Spins symbols.

Fortune Play

Fortune Play is arguably the standout element in Fruitopolis, since everything up to that point feels fairly familiar. Toggling the switch beneath the reels enables this game mode. In simple terms, Fortune Spins are priced at 20x the cost of standard spins. So if you place a €20 Fortune Play spin, the pay symbols are worth what they would be on a €1 Standard Play spin. What’s the trade-off for paying more? For starters, this mode uses four grid sets instead of a single one. Each grid takes its turn spinning before the next begins, and once all four matrices have played out, the Fortune Play spin ends.

Fortune Play becomes more compelling when Golden Chip mystery symbols land, because they are transferred to the remaining grids. For instance, if mystery symbols land on reel set 1, they’re copied into the same positions on reel sets 2, 3, and 4. If additional mystery symbols then land on reel set 2 during the same spin, they are carried over to reel sets 3 and 4.

Fruitopolis Fortune Play: Slot Verdict

For a large portion of our session, Fruitopolis felt like a constant battle between paying attention to what was happening on the reels and wanting to do almost anything else instead. “Action” might even be overselling it. Still, the adjacent pays approach does add something, and when it combines with the mystery symbols it can occasionally deliver a small jolt of excitement. For example, a stack of mystery symbols might drop on reels 3, 4, and 5 and create a win—something that wouldn’t normally happen if wins were limited to starting from the first reel. So yes, there’s at least a little spark there.

The bigger issue is that Fruitopolis is essentially a direct copy of Luck o’ the Irish 2 Fortune Spins. Why move from one generic-looking slot to another? We couldn’t say for sure, but it feels like Blueprint may be reluctant to spend their strongest themes on the quad-grid idea while it’s still finding its footing. That’s speculation, of course, but it doesn’t help the Fortune Spins concept, which has potential yet often gets lost under a blanket of bland theming.

The winning potential is also a bit odd. As with many Blueprint titles, Fruitopolis comes with the familiar 50,000x or $250,000 win cap disclaimer (Blueprint really should be clearer about this), but it’s hard to imagine the game getting anywhere close to those heights. If the unthinkable happened and all four grids in a huge Fortune Spin filled with 7s, the payout would be 2,000x the bet. Then again, not exactly, because 2,000x the regular bet is the same as 100x the Fortune Spin cost. Either way, Fruitopolis isn’t built as a huge xbet chaser.

Ultimately, Fruitopolis left us feeling like it’s more of a proving ground for ideas that may show up later. The way adjacent pays and mystery symbols work together could easily be reused, and the Fortune Pays high-stakes concept could also return in future releases. Then again, this is Blueprint Gaming—well known for tweaking and recycling mechanics—so players will likely see multiple variations of these features down the line, either dropped into new titles or blended with older concepts. Pairing them with a more engaging theme certainly wouldn’t hurt.
