Emberfall: Slot Overview
On the whole, 2024 proved to be a banner year for software provider Slotmill, getting underway when the Brew Brothers wandered into view, then rolling on with treats such as Tyrant’s Fall and Coins and Cannons. One of the studio’s clearest highlights, perhaps the highlight, was the Norse warhammer-themed Ragnarok— a cluster pays slot that delivered a hefty mix of a doubling win multiplier, Giant symbols, and free spins with a persistent multiplier. Much of that package returns in Emberfall, but the formula is reworked by replacing cluster pays with scatter pays instead—scatter pays being very much in vogue.
That popularity shows through in Emberfall’s presentation, set in a blazing, lava-soaked fantasy realm. The base game has a Mordor-like vibe—grey, bleak, and perilous—while the reels sit before something that looks suspiciously like Mt Doom. To be clear, there’s no Lord of the Rings connection suggested; that’s simply a little reviewer imagination at play. Emberfall brings enough fire to stoke fantasy daydreams, complete with dragons, warriors, and an epic, sweeping soundtrack.

In terms of layout, Emberfall adds one extra row and one extra reel compared to Ragnarok, creating a 6×6 grid. Volatility is marked as ‘very high‘, and base game stakes run from 20 c to $/€60 per spin with a default RTP of 96.1%. If you want a potential shortcut into the free spins round, you can switch on the Xtra-Bet. Doing so boosts the wager by 50% to increase the chance of triggering free spins by 2.7x. Wins are formed by landing at least matching symbols anywhere across the reels.
Because Emberfall includes a double-up win multiplier with a sky-high maximum, symbol payouts have been toned down somewhat. The symbol set includes blue, green, red, and purple gems, plus helms, shields, axes, swords, and a character. Scatter wins of 8 OAK pay 0.1 to 0.4 times the bet, rising to 3 to 10 times the bet for 16+ OAK. Emberfall contains no wild symbols, and none are generated during the Avalanche sequence either.
Emberfall: Slot Features

Emberfall comes loaded with Avalanche wins, a progressive win multiplier, a Multiplier Boost, Giant symbols, free spins, super free spins, and Fast Track bonus buys.
Features
- Progressive Win Multiplier – The progressive win multiplier begins each base game spin at x1. With every Avalanche, the win multiplier doubles, up to a maximum of x65,536.
- Multiplier Boost – The Multiplier Boost feature can trigger at the start of any game round. If it activates, the win multiplier increases a random number of steps.
- Giant symbols – At the beginning of each new game round, or once a round ends with no further wins available, giant symbols sized 2×2, 3×3, or 4×4 may drop onto the reels at random. Giant symbols count as the equivalent number of 1×1 symbols they contain.
Free Spins & Super Free Spins
Landing 3 scatter symbols in the base game awards 8 free spins. In free spins, the key advantage is that the win multiplier does not reset until the feature finishes. The win multiplier begins at x1, and scatters do not appear during the feature. Landing 2 scatter symbols and a super scatter symbol, on the other hand, triggers 8 super free sins. During super free spins, a Giant symbol is guaranteed to hit on every spin. The same rules as standard free spins also apply in super free spins.
Fast Track
Fast Track is Slotmill’s term for its bonus buy menu, offering the following options: Gamble (250x the bet) – A 50/50 gamble takes place that either awards super free spins or nothing, Super Free Spins (500x the bet), Free Spins (100x the bet), Multiplier Boost (40x the bet) – Ensures the Multiplier Boost activates, or Super Bonus Hunt (5x the bet) – If free spins trigger, they will be super free spins.

Emberfall: Slot Verdict
Much like Ragnarok, Emberfall isn’t a finely tuned slot built from delicate, interlocking parts. Instead, Slotmill has taken big, heavy feature blocks and bolted them together into a barbaric game that’s more interested in smashing than subtlety. The progressive win multiplier is a prime example, and whether or not it drew inspiration from Yggdrasil Gaming’s DoubleMax mechanic doesn’t diminish how effective it is. Land a win, double the multiplier—nothing complicated. The fresh twist, and potentially a first, is that this doubling multiplier is paired with a scatter-pays system rather than the paylines or ways players typically see. For anyone who enjoys scatter wins—and that audience seems to be expanding given how many scatter-paying slots keep appearing—Emberfall is close to essential viewing.
The supporting mechanics are equally straightforward and aggressively effective, complementing the scatter win, Avalanche, and win multiplier combination perfectly. With the bigger grid (compared to Ragnarok), Giant symbols feel even more oversized than before, reaching 4×4 (or 16 symbols), and having a Multiplier Boost in a double-up multiplier slot is always welcome. Playing through the review sometimes mirrored the features themselves—rough and forceful—and getting consistently strong outcomes from bonus buys wasn’t always simple. Still, Emberfall is extremely volatile, and the best doubling-multiplier Avalanche slots can explode in a very distinctive, highly entertaining fashion. Emberfall clearly has that potential, and it can pay fortunate players up to 15,000 times their bet if they manage to take it all the way.
If there’s one small gripe, beyond the scatter pays angle, Emberfall isn’t overflowing with blazing originality. Even so, it’s easy enough to set that aside, sink into its chunky fantasy escapism for a while, and see what happens when a scatter wins system collides with a doubling multiplier—then wait to see what kind of fireworks might follow.
