It brings to mind The Thirteenth Floor, when Hall drives somewhere he’d never usually consider, only to realise his everyday ‘world’ is a simulation and anything beyond it hasn’t been properly rendered. That intriguing film lost the Saturn Award for Best Science Fiction Film to the Matrix.

As for the gameplay, it runs on a 5-reel, 3-row setup with 10 fixed paylines and a win method called Multipays, explained further down. Volatility is rated medium-high volatile, while the default RTP sits at 96.24%; this is said to apply whether you’re playing the standard mode with stakes from 10 p/c to $/€ 100 per spin, or switching on Super Stake. On the gameplay side, there are positives and negatives. On the plus side, it’s extremely easy to grasp if maximum simplicity is the goal. Multipays is a mildly engaging concept, though it doesn’t have huge long-term pull once you’ve watched it play out a handful of times. Ultimately, Diamond Staxx Multipays is all about line wins, which can potentially stack into consecutive line wins depending on how the fourth and reel land. There’s no bonus round and no other clearly defined modifier to anticipate. It feels like Stakelogic could have added something to support the simplicity—perhaps tied into Multipays—to stop the experience from slipping into repetition. Super Stake exists, but the wording is so vague it’s difficult to know what it really changes.

By the finish, Diamond Staxx Multipays came across as unfinished, as if something was missing or it launched in a beta-like state. The Multipays idea does add a little spark, and it wouldn’t be a bad mechanic to revisit later, though it would likely shine more in a game that offers a bit more overall.
