Cygnus 5: Slot Overview
For as long as humans have existed, we’ve been fascinated by the night sky. Some of the oldest evidence of astronomy comes from 30,000-year-old cave art, and it’s reasonable to assume people were staring upward in awe long before that. Over time, our curiosity has helped uncover parts of the universe, though countless mysteries still remain—perhaps forever. Rather than drifting too far into cosmic speculation, let’s stay grounded and jump into the online slot Cygnus 5, the fifth entry in provider ELK Studios’ enigmatic Cygnus series.
The Cygnus lineup has shifted themes more than once, moving from astronomy to an ancient arena and even the Tower of London. With Cygnus 5, the series swings back toward its roots, presenting an Ancient Egyptian setting with a clear emphasis on the stars. The scope feels tighter this time, with only a slice of the night sky visible above and behind the grid, which sits inside a temple-like chamber. It may not hit with the same visual punch as earlier Cygnus releases—this is the fifth outing, after all—but the presentation is still difficult to criticize too heavily in terms of both audio and visuals.

As with the previous entries, Cygnus 5 runs on an uneven 6-reel layout. Pressing spin drops symbols into a 4-row setup, and wins land by forming at least 3 matching symbols on adjacent reels starting from the far-left reel. With the grid initially at 4 rows, there are 4,096 ways to win, and that number climbs when extra rows are added through the Avalanching wins mechanic. For this fifth installment, ELK uses a medium/high volatile math profile, with an RTP of up to 94% (or 87% in certain markets). Bets range from 20 c to $/€100 per spin.
There are seven paying symbols in Cygnus 5: triangle, diamond, and hexagon shapes as the lower-value icons, followed by a bird, a snake, a cat, and a sun-moon symbol as the premium pays. The low symbols return 0.2 times the bet for 6 OAK, while the higher symbols pay between 0.3 to 5 times the bet. Helping to extend combinations, the wild substitutes for all standard paying symbols.
Cygnus 5: Slot Features

Any win in Cygnus 5 sets off the Avalanche feature, which removes the winning symbols so the remaining ones tumble down. After that, an additional row is added (up to 8 high), and new symbols drop in to refill the reels. More rows create extra ways to win; once fully expanded, the game offers 262,144 ways to win. This avalanche cycle continues until the grid produces no further wins.
Prism Symbol
The prism symbol activates once it reaches the bottom of the grid. Following the next symbol drop—or instantly if it was placed by a Meteor Strike—it turns all symbols along beams in a random number of directions into matching symbols or wilds. If a prism’s light beam hits another prism symbol, it triggers a chain reaction, and every symbol along the chosen paths will also transform into the same pay symbol or wild. Where beams cross, symbols become wilds. Any multipliers, scatters, or super scatters caught along a prism’s selected direction temporarily change into the chosen symbol as well, then revert after the win is calculated.
Multiplier Symbol
When a multiplier symbol reaches the bottom of the reels or the leftmost column, it increases the current active win multiplier and then transforming into a wild symbol. Multiplier increases, and symbol transitions happen before the payout is awarded. The win multiplier is applied to all subsequent wins during that game round. If the multiplier reaches the top of the multiplier pillar, it pays whatever amount is still required to hit the max win. The win multiplier resets ahead of the next round.
Meteor Strike
The Meteor Strike is randomly triggered after a drop or after a symbol refill. When it activates, a selection of randomly selected pay symbols on the grid are replaced by feature symbols.
Free Spins
A scatter symbol or a super scatter symbol that reaches the leftmost column triggers 7 free spins, with the current win multiplier carried over into the bonus. If a scatter or super scatter lands on the bottom row in columns 2 to 6, it is removed and dropped again within that column, shifting 1 position left if possible. This happens at the end of an Avalanche cycle, once per cycle.
In free spins, the win multiplier is persistent for the entire feature, and each new drop starts with 4 rows. If super spins were activated, a Meteor Strike is guaranteed on every drop. When a scatter reaches the leftmost column, additional free spins are awarded. Alternatively, if a super scatter reaches the leftmost reel during standard free spins, the feature is upgraded into super free spins.
X-iter
Cygnus 5’s X-iter bonus buys offer 5 options: Bonus Hunt (2x the bet) for 1 drop, which is more than 3 times more likely to trigger a bonus or super bonus game, Meteors (10x the bet) for a round that guarantees a Meteor Strike on the first drop, Prisms (25x the bet) for a round that includes at least 2 prism symbols, Bonus Game (100x the bet), and Super Bonus (500x the bet).

Cygnus 5: Slot Verdict
Not long ago, another major ELK Studios series, Nitropolis, also reached five main releases (not counting the four clan spin-offs), so there’s something fitting about Cygnus hitting the 5-slot milestone too. The first two games, Cygnus and Cygnus 2, scored highly by pairing a distinctive layout with strong mechanics. Cygnus 3 dipped in rating, in part due to its unusual Cygnus Wheel, while Cygnus 4 was solid without being truly standout. Cygnus 5 lands in a similar place. It delivers the polished audiovisual style the series is known for, and the combination of Avalanche wins, expanding rows, and rising ways-to-win remains a proven formula for ELK Studios—here and across the popular ‘Gold’ titles. The foundation may feel familiar at this point, but it still plays well when the wins keep chaining and the grid keeps growing.
It’s the supporting mechanics that often give these games their identity, and in Cygnus 5 a key new twist is the prism symbol. It’s not a total reinvention, but it’s a welcome addition. As with the multiplier symbol, you’ll want prisms to fall as far down as possible (or as far left as possible for the multi symbols) to unleash their changing effects. With the grid able to expand up to 8 rows, there’s plenty of room for those transformations to matter. Multiplier symbols do what multiplier symbols do—the more they build the win multiplier, the better. Still, as in Cygnus 4, the fact they can award the 50,000x max win by reaching the top of the pillar is a bit of a double-edged sword, creating a love-hate response to the near-jackpot style mechanic.
Unless ELK Studios makes a major leap with the next installment’s mechanics, it’s hard to feel a huge surge of anticipation for a Cygnus 6. That doesn’t mean the fifth release is a letdown—far from it. It runs smoothly and blends a few fresher ideas with the familiar core. Overall, Cygnus 5 is an enjoyable performance, though there’s also a noticeable sense that returns are starting to taper off.
