Cops’n’Robbers Introduction

Cops’n’Robbers is a 5-reel, 3-row online slot offering up to 9 adjustable paylines. It runs smoothly across all devices and supports stakes from €0.01 to €90. While it’s technically a remake of a much older Play’n GO title, it plays like a largely new game thanks to an updated math model.

The cops-and-thieves setting is a familiar classic that plenty of major studios have tackled before – Cops’n Robbers by Novomatic, Reel Heist by Red Tiger and Cops and Robbers by Microgaming, to mention just a few.

This Play’n GO edition sits a bit lower in variance than many of their more recent releases, which is likely a smart choice. High variance is fun, but it can also feel overdone at times, so it’s refreshing to have a calmer option to wager on—or at least a slot where landing a bonus doesn’t feel like an endless battle when the “monster” games won’t cooperate.

Cops’n’Robbers Symbols

Cops’n’Robbers features 5 high value symbols, 5 low value symbols, a scatter symbol (police car), and a wild (the vault symbol) that doubles the win. Since the game puts you on the criminals’ side, the low value icons are cops, jail bars, mug shots and handcuffs.

The premium symbols are all about stolen valuables – money bags, diamonds, jewels, paintings and gold watches. The wild is easily the top-paying symbol and returns 3000x for a wild line.

The Car Chase bonus in action

Landing three or more police car symbols anywhere on the reels activates the Car Chase bonus. A run of free spins then begins, where prizes tend to land more often than during the base game. At certain moments, players must choose which direction to take in order to avoid roadblocks.

If the player successfully escapes the police (40% chance), the total winnings from the free spins are doubled. Once the bonus ends, players can either collect the loot or gamble it. The gamble round up can be used up to five times in a row, with a maximum limit of 2500 coins.

During the free spins, the game randomly grants 10, 15, 20 or 25 free spins and the feature cannot re-trigger. On average, the bonus is triggered about 1 in 112 spins.

Conclusion

There’s nothing especially groundbreaking on display here, and the overall structure and gameplay feel very traditional. Cops’n’Robbers keeps things clean and easy, with a straightforward setup and no overly complex mechanics to monitor.

The bonus, however, felt a little unclear. The info panel says players must pick a direction at certain points and that winnings are doubled if you escape the police, but it doesn’t really explain what determines an escape. In practice, the direction choices didn’t seem to change much. We expected a wrong pick to end badly, but that never happened (maybe we’re just unusually good at choosing). Our assumption is that the choice doesn’t matter and the result is predetermined: either you get away, or you don’t. That’s it.

Even so, we had fun with it, and if you prefer less volatile slots, there’s a strong chance you’ll like it too thanks to its pace, solid max win potential, and the fairly regular bonus triggers.

We’re usually not overly excited by medium variance titles, but a 14,480x max win potential definitely makes this one worth a closer look. Of course, hitting something like that is likely close to impossible and may require multiple wild lines, but since the bonus can run for a good number of spins, it’s not unrealistic for it to deliver some very decent wins.
