Cleocatra: Slot Overview
Back in Ancient Egypt, animals of all kinds were venerated for different reasons. Dogs mattered in part for their hunting skills, while Apis bulls were even said to receive embalming and burial rites after death. That leads neatly to today’s subject: cats, which Ancient Egyptians were believed to view as bringers of good fortune. Online slots often lean on the goddess Bastet for feline symbolism, but in Cleocatra, developer Pragmatic Play goes all-in on the cat theme and puts the felines front and centre.
Pragmatic Play also plays it for laughs, portraying the cats in a cute, comedic style that sets a lighthearted tone. Around that, the setting stays firmly Egyptian—think sultry soundtrack, sand and desert hues, warm skies, and pyramids. In truth, the visuals and audio would feel fairly standard if not for the clowder of cats crawling over Cleocatra’s 5×4 reel layout and posted up as guards on both sides. Beyond the cat cast, Cleocatra is largely classic Pragmatic Play, delivering a polished, almost land-based style presentation that looks glossy and runs smoothly.
Along with the familiar look comes a set of typically reliable Pragmatic Play numbers. The RTP is available in three versions, with the highest at 96.2%, though it may also appear at 95.5% or 94.5%. No matter the setting, the gameplay is highly volatile (rated 5 out of 5) and revolves around connecting wild multipliers with line wins. There are 40 fixed paylines, and wins land when three to five matching symbols connect across them, starting from the leftmost reel. Cleocatra runs on any device, and the stake range spans 20 p/c to $/€100 per spin.
Next up are the cats themselves, which make up the four top-paying premium symbols. After the four felines come an Ankh and a crook and flail tile, followed by 10-A card ranks as the lower-value set. A five-of-a-kind line win pays 1-1.5 times the bet for the low symbols, 2.5-3.75x for the two mid symbols, and 5-20 times the stake for five cat symbols. Wilds are where things can get lively in Cleocatra. They appear on reels 2, 3, 4, or 5 and substitute for any paying symbol. When they land, they carry multipliers of x2 or x3, which apply to any win they help create. If multiple multiplier wilds contribute to the same win, their values are added together.
Cleocatra: Slot Features
Cleocatra blends and reworks a few familiar mechanics, combining extras like a Respin Feature with a Free Spins round that includes sticky Wilds.
Respin Feature
During the base game, the respin feature may activate when a full stack of cat symbols lands on the first reel. At that point, any matching cat symbols or wilds currently showing are locked into positions, while the remaining symbols are respun. Additional respins keep coming until a winning outcome is achieved.
Free Spins
Paw print scatters can land on every reel, and hitting 3, 4, or 5 awards 5x the stake plus 8, 12, or 16 free spins, respectively. Once free spins begin, any time wild symbols land on reels 2, 3, 4, or 5, they remain sticky on the screen for the rest of the bonus. As in the base game, wilds arrive with multipliers of x2 or x3. If a full stack of cat symbols appears on the leftmost reel, +2 additional free spins are added to what’s left.
Buy Free Spins
By paying 100x the total bet, eligible players can trigger the free spins feature straight from the base game by landing 3, 4, or 5 scatters.
Cleocatra: Slot Verdict
Considering how highly cats were regarded in Ancient Egypt, making them the headline act in an Egyptian slot feels fitting, and the heavy feline focus does give Cleocatra a touch of distinction. The vibe is reminiscent of 3 Tiny Gods, though it felt like Foxium pushed harder for originality there, while Cleocatra can come across as Pragmatic Play assembling a set of familiar Egyptian visuals and sound cues and then dropping in a bunch of cats. That’s largely because everything beyond the cat theme is close to a classic Ancient Egyptian slot template—which will be either a plus or a minus depending on what you enjoy.
It’s also worth noting that while the overall gameplay mix is somewhat distinctive, each individual mechanic feels like a tweaked version of something seen before. That’s less a complaint than a look at how Cleocatra is built and what kind of experience it aims for. The Respin feature, for instance, brings to mind Great Rhino, while the sticky wild setup is lifted straight from The Dog House. Where Cleocatra extends The Dog House is by allowing wild multipliers to show up (and stick) on reel 5 as well, not only the middle three reels—plus there are twice as many paylines. Put together, that suggests the potential for bigger moments in Cleocatra than in The Dog House, though cat and dog fans can argue that one out. One last point: even with the extra paylines and the added reel for wilds, the ceiling is a bit lower than its canine cousin, as Pragmatic Play has set a 5,000x the bet win cap.
All told, strong production quality, tried-and-tested features, and charming cats should make Cleocatra a solid pick for Egyptian-themed slot fans or anyone hunting for an alternative to The Dog House. Still, for the sake of fairness, Cleocatra—cats aside—can feel like you’ve encountered much of it before. The title is a smart one, though.
