The Wild Symbol

Wilds replace all standard pay symbols and can appear on the three middle reels. They may land carrying an x2 or x3 multiplier, and that multiplier affects every win the multiplier wild contributes to. If more than one multiplier wild is involved in the same payline win, their values are added together. A line of 5 wilds pays 25 times the bet. In addition, when scatters land but fail to start free spins, they convert to single wild symbols.

Old Betty

The Old Betty symbol also acts as a wild, substituting for all symbols apart from scatters. It can appear on the first and fifth reel. When it lands, Old Betty has a chance to activate, placing 1 to 9 wild symbols onto reels 2, 3, and 4. If Old Betty adds wilds onto spots that already contain a wild, the existing wild’s multiplier increases by +1. Only one Old Betty can appear on a reel at a time.

That cosy feeling is back as Slotmill keeps improving its games based on what players say. We’ve seen this approach in earlier Slotmill titles like Coin Quest 2, and Brew Brothers Xmas Brew is another clear example of that developer-and-player feedback loop. Naturally, the studio is still building games designed to earn more than they pay out over time, but on the payout side, there are differences between Brew Brothers and Brew Brothers Xmas Brew that should, at least in theory, make things a bit more rewarding.

Slotmill says the Xmas edition includes extra wild activity in the bonus and more wilds coming from Gold Bettys, which explains the higher Fast Track buy prices. In theory, that should also mean more Tractor feature activations. Still, don’t assume the Tractor will be simple to pull in—it certainly wasn’t during testing. Even so, bonus rounds can end up throwing plenty of wilds onto the reels, although those frustrating Gold Bettys that add 0 wilds can still be a pain. You’re still only given a small batch of free spins when the feature starts, so it would have been nice to have a way to win more spins once the round is underway. Then again, adding retriggers would likely require removing something else for balance, and as it stands, when the wilds begin to pile up, even 7 non-retriggerable free spins can deliver plenty of excitement.

It can also hit larger max wins now, too, reaching 15,000x versus Brew Brother’s 12,000x. Overall, Brew Brothers Xmas Brew separates itself from the original in ways that may feel subtle but matter, and it’s very Slotmill to ship a genuinely improved Christmas version of an existing slot instead of simply swapping the artwork and calling it finished.
