Bounty Hunter: Slot Overview

Westerns and cash-collect mechanics aren’t exactly rare in slots, yet both come together in Pragmatic Play’s frontier-themed Bounty Hunter. The name isn’t particularly inventive either, so if you crave something wildly original, you may be asking how this one plans to stand out. Still, Pragmatic Play has repeatedly shown it knows its way around slot design and can occasionally strike a little gold. Does Bounty Hunter manage that, or will it end up chased out of town by an angry mob?

Bounty Hunter drops players into a setting we’ve seen countless times before, like you’ve just wandered, six-shooters at your hips, into a rickety backwater town. It’s the kind of place where “justice” comes from whoever’s packing the biggest iron, not from any upstanding sheriff. The character symbols do add a fun touch, though, sporting oversized weapons and even bigger smiles, which helps create a surprisingly sunny, welcoming feel. Welcoming enough to step inside, anyway.

Framed in wood and perched on a wagon, Bounty Hunter runs on a 5×3 reelset with 20 paylines, paying left to right. It’s a highly volatile slot with a 96.51% RTP, and stakes from 20c to $/€240 per spin, plus a couple of feature buys. There’s also an ante bet option, priced at 12x, to land a collector on every spin.

The lower-paying symbols are sticks of dynamite, pistols, boots, and hats, paying 3x to 5x for a 5-of-a-kind. Above them are four character high pays, which award 20x to 100x the bet for 5 OAK. Bounty Hunter doesn’t come with a wild sidekick.

Bounty Hunter: Slot Features

Bounty Hunter brings a cash-collect mechanic, a free spins round, and a feature buy with two choices.

Money Collection

The collector symbol can show up on the leftmost reel, while the multiplier symbol appears only on the rightmost reel. In the base game or during free spins, high-value symbols may land carrying random cash values worth 0.5x to 100x the bet. When a collector lands, it expands to fill the entire leftmost reel, then it duels each high-value symbol showing a money amount from left to right. Winning a duel means the value is collected, and the collection multiplier is increased by x1 for the next collection. Losing a duel collects nothing. Once all duels are resolved, the multiplier drops back to x1.

Multiplier symbols arrive with values from x10 to x100. If the collector and multiplier are both present, the first duel is against the multiplier. If that duel is won, the multiplier used for future collections on that spin becomes the multiplier symbol’s value, and it cannot be increased through successful duels.

Free Spins

Landing 3, 4, or 5 scatters awards 8, 12, or 16 free spins, respectively. In this mode, the duel-earned multiplier is persistent across spins and won’t reset until the feature ends. It can climb as high as x100. Players also gain an extra 8, 12, or 16 free spins if 3, 4, or 5 scatters, respectively, appear.

Feature Buy

There are two feature buy options available. One costs 80x to start free spins via 3-5 scatters, while the other is priced at 500x for super free spins triggered by 3-5 scatters, where one collector is guaranteed on the screen every spin.

Bounty Hunter: Slot Verdict

A cowboy-themed money-collect slot didn’t sound off-putting, but it wasn’t exactly a thrilling pitch either. The theme and the mechanic have both been heavily mined, so seeing them paired together doesn’t automatically spark excitement. Even so, Prag is Prag, and with the studio’s track record, we strapped in to see what Bounty Hunter could deliver. What we found was better than expected. Not that expectations were through the roof, but the game’s mood is friendly, and while the visuals feel familiar, some of the characters’ expressions look like they could’ve wandered out of Soundgarden’s Black Hole Sun video.

More importantly, Bounty Hunter landed a few satisfying moments, which always makes a slot easier to warm to. The collection gameplay shares some similarities with a batch of Blueprint Gaming titles like D10S Maradona, The Goonies Hey You Guys, King Kong Cash Even Bigger Bananas, and others. Here, though, the collection symbol doesn’t evolve. It has a simple job: shoot high pay symbols and claim the bounty from those it beats. Maybe a second job too: boosting the collection multiplier, which becomes especially valuable thanks to its crucial persistent behavior in free spins. At times, it comes together surprisingly well, and the 10,000x win cap sits on top like a perfectly fitted Stetson.

Reel Kingdom may have claimed big chunks of the fish-style collection niche, but Pragmatic Play proves it can make collecting entertaining in its own right. Bounty Hunter might not outgun the quickest hands in the West, yet it’s genuinely pretty sharp on the draw.
