Boat Bonanza: Slot Overview
Grab your rod and gear and head out on the water in Play’n GO’s fishing-themed online slot Boat Bonanza. Fishing slots hardly need an introduction—they’re everywhere, and the list keeps growing. With so many titles competing in the same space, it’s no surprise there’s plenty of overlap between them. By that we mean the reusing, borrowing, and echoing of ideas—call it what you like. Boat Bonanza seems to dip into that pool a little. The question is whether that’s enough to throw it back like a tiny minnow, or whether it’s still worth keeping.
A word that kept coming up with Boat Bonanza was “simplicity.” That goes for both the mechanics and the presentation. The game shows the familiar grid sitting under the waterline, with a thin strip of horizon across the top of the screen. If you look closely (or squint), you can make out a tower, a pier, and a Ferris wheel—does that mean we’re in Blackpool, UK? Skimming above the five reels are a couple of boats, and they’re more than decoration, since they’re central to how the game works. Visually, it’s hard to call Boat Bonanza a standout, though it’s certainly not unpleasant to look at.

On the technical side, Boat Bonanza runs on a 5-reel, 3-row layout and offers 12 paylines for forming winning combinations. The RTP wasn’t available during testing, but based on Play’n GO’s typical approach, players can expect a top value around 96.2%, with lower figures possible on alternative models. Volatility is high, and stakes can be set from 20 p/c to $/€50.
The biggest excitement in Boat Bonanza comes from collecting Cash Symbols, though standard line wins are part of the package too. Line wins land when matching symbols connect across a payline on consecutive reels, starting from the first reel. Most symbols require at least three to pay, except the highest-value symbol, which pays for two or more. At the low end are 10-J card symbols, paying 10x the bet for five of a kind, while nets, seagulls, reels, and buoys sit at the top, returning 50 to 200 times the stake for five of a kind. Boat Bonanza does not have a wild.
Boat Bonanza: Slot Features

Instead, the game leans on Catch Symbols, which can land on all reels and show various sea creatures alongside different prize values – up to 1,000x. As a side note, Catch Symbols can also form line wins worth up to 40x the bet for five of a kind. To actually collect Catch Symbols, the boats above the reels do the work. Greyed-out boats are inactive, while coloured boats are active. When Catch Symbols land on the reels beneath an active boat, that boat will collect them and award their values. If two active boats sit above the same reel, they trigger Mega Catch, which collects all Catch Symbols appearing on the reels.
Free Spins
Hitting 3, 4, or 5 scatter symbols in the base game awards 10, 15, or 20 free spins, respectively. During free spins, 2 multiplier boats are always active, catching symbols that grant extra free spins, symbols that add multipliers to the boats, or Catch Symbols. Boats with multipliers boost the value of what they collect, and when 2 boats are on the same reel, their multipliers are combined for the Mega Catch.
A major difference between the base game and free spins is that when boats collect Cash Symbols during the bonus, respins are triggered. In respins, only Catch Symbols can appear and paylines are switched off. Respins keep going as long as boats continue to collect Cash Symbols. If nothing is caught, the game returns to standard free spins.

Boat Bonanza: Slot Verdict
So yes, it’s simple—but Boat Bonanza has more depth than it initially suggests. That’s especially true once free spins land, since they can branch into respins and bring multipliers into play. In the base game, Boat Bonanza is about as relaxed and low-effort as a fishing slot can be. You spin, Catch Symbols drop in, and you hope active boats appear above them to scoop up the prizes. Line wins exist too, but over time they tend to fade into the background, since it’s easy to focus mainly on the Catch Symbols and the boats, almost ignoring everything else.
Free spins get a lift from two elements: multipliers and respins. Even though we didn’t manage to reel in a monster haul, it’s easy to see how it could happen—say, if both boats had strong multipliers and then combined for a Mega Catch (or two). For a mid-range fishing slot, the upside is solid, topping out at 5,000x the bet, which stacks up well against plenty of titles in the Big Bass range when comparing max win potential.
From a gameplay perspective, Play’n GO didn’t go with the collect-symbol accumulation approach in free spins that Big Bass Bonanza and similar games are known for. Still, what’s here won’t feel entirely fresh. Much of the setup will be familiar to anyone who’s tried Big Time Gaming’s fish-filled slot Golden Catch. Boat Bonanza uses a comparable idea, but overall it comes across as a “lighter” experience, for lack of a better term. The top-end rewards aren’t as big as Golden Catch, yet features trigger fairly often and the overall pace feels more easygoing. So if you like fishing-themed reels—and there seem to be plenty of players who do—Boat Bonanza is another one to add to the list.
