If you enjoyed Pear Fiction Studios’ take on their previous comedic horror slot, there’s a strong chance this one will click too. The bright, playful art style takes the sting out of the threat, leaving a vibe that’s closer to Sharknado than Jaws, for example. Blazing Piranhas also carries over many of the same building blocks seen in Granny vs Zombies—and even where it differs, it feels cut from a similar cloth.

It’s also packed with features, so the base game often feels like a gateway to several different bonus rounds. The main game held up well enough, with those useful Piranha Wilds occasionally sliding across the reels, and the light-hearted fish-versus-humans concept being used effectively. During the review, it didn’t really seem like the base game alone was where the biggest “wow” moments would come from—though that could be unfair. Either way, for anyone drawn in by the piranha theme, Pear Fiction Studios’ “everything but the kitchen sink” approach means there are plenty of add-ons to chase. Many of them aren’t especially rare in the wider slot world, but they’re put together competently and work well as a package. Aside from the 5,000x Mega Jackpot, Blazing Piranhas left the impression that assembling truly standout wins might be challenging. Just an impression, of course, and one we’d be glad to see disproved.
