In Greek mythology, the Argonauts were a band of heroes led by Jason, who journeyed by sea in search of the Golden Fleece—an expedition traditionally placed before the Trojan War. Argonauts is also the title of an online slot from Pragmatic Play, seemingly drawing on that legend, or at least the era associated with Jason and the Golden Fleece. The theme isn’t especially fresh, and neither are the core mechanics, though fans of Money symbol collection may still be intrigued by how Collector symbols can gather nearby prizes and amplify their values.

At first glance, Argonauts gives off an underwater, sunken-city vibe where light barely filters through. Looking closer, it seems the scene is actually set on dry land, just within a dark, strangely illuminated setting. Aside from that sea-or-land ambiguity, Argonauts is unmistakably Greek-myth in style, featuring columned architecture, sharp Greek-style lettering, and heroic-looking characters.

Argonauts is a 5×4 slot offering 1,024 ways to win. Wins are evaluated from the leftmost reel, requiring matching symbols on at least 3 consecutive reels. On top of that, any Wild Collector that lands collects the values of adjacent Money symbols in vertical, horizontal, and diagonal directions. Wild Collectors may also include a random multiplier of x2 to x2,000, which applies to the values of all Money symbols it collects. With each Money symbol collected, the multiplier increases by +1.

Respin Feature

Landing 6 or more Money symbols in the base game triggers the Respin feature. The Money symbols that activate the feature stay locked, while only Money symbols, Wild Collectors, or empty spaces spin and land. Any Money symbol that appears remains in place until the feature concludes. If Wild Collector symbols land, they collect the values of surrounding Money symbols and add that amount to the round’s total win. You start with 3 respins, and whenever a new Money symbol or Collector lands, the respin count returns to 3. The feature ends when no respins are left or when the grid is filled with Money symbols. Once finished, the values of all visible Money symbols are added together and paid. If the screen is full, every Money symbol value is multiplied by x2.

You can purchase the Respin feature directly from the base game for 60x the bet. On purchase, the bonus is initiated by a random number of Money symbols (at least 6).

Argonauts: Slot Verdict

Pragmatic Play has plenty of experience with Money symbol collection slots, especially through its work alongside Reel Kingdom, so the studio clearly understands what makes this style tick. Even so, Argonauts didn’t feel like a standout example of that combined expertise. Instead, it came across more like a serviceable addition than a collector slot poised to challenge the genre’s heavyweights. Not every release needs to be a landmark, but Argonauts doesn’t quite match the epic promise of the heroic name it borrows.

That said, when the game cooperates, it can still deliver strong moments. The fact that Collector symbols only gather adjacent Money symbols adds a limiting twist, though it’s balanced by the possibility of Collector multipliers that can significantly lift returns—up to 2,000x. Even without huge multipliers, the mechanic where each collected Money symbol increases the multiplier adds extra tension and momentum. Argonauts also does the familiar trick of previewing its main mechanic in the base game, then leaning into it during the bonus. The advantage is that the bonus restricts outcomes to Money symbols and Collectors only, helping push toward a larger combined payout.

The closest thing to capturing the Golden Fleece here would be reaching the maximum 10,000x the bet win cap. Overall, Argonauts is a middle-of-the-road Money symbol collection slot—one that enthusiasts may want to try for completeness, but not among Pragmatic Play’s top-tier efforts.
