Above the play area, four different Collectors cycle through (two active at once), and they’re far from decorative: they’re essential for pulling symbols off the grid and helping players collect moolah along the way. From the outset, it’s clear World Eaters is aiming to be more than a simple re-run of its earlier concept.

The base game runs on a 5×5 gaming area. That said, as features are unlocked, you move through different worlds that gradually open up previously locked sections of the grid. Progress is stored per bet level, so when selecting a stake of $/€0.20 to $/€100, it’s worth keeping that in mind. The same goes for the medium volatility and the 94% RTP, which remains the same whether you’re spinning normally or purchasing features.

To generate wins, the two Collectors at the top of the reels collect their matching coloured pay symbols, along with any feature symbols that have a clear route to the top row. World Features Symbols

World features in World Eaters are activated by Whale, Pipe, Firework, Tree, and Volcano symbols.

• Whale symbols function as blockers. When neither Collector is able to collect anything, the Whale removes itself along with all pay symbols on the same reel.
• Pipe symbols activate when they have a clear path to the top row. They allow a Collector to collect all matching symbols below the wall located just under the bottom row. The Pipe is used by the Collector that can collect the highest value.
• Fireworks symbols trigger when they appear on the grid at the same time as a Grey House symbol. The Fireworks symbol converts every Grey House symbol on the grid into multiplier wild symbols.
• Tree symbols trigger when they are next to empty spaces created by a win. They generate Forest symbols into any connected clusters of empty spaces. After a new Collector enters the game, if the Tree symbol spawned a Forest symbol, then all Forest symbols reveal either a multiplier wild or a pay symbol of the same type.
• Volcano symbols are wild. When collected, the pending feature activates when neither Collector can collect anything. It triggers with its Collector while the other Collector is removed. The active Collector then destroys all pay symbols that are not of its type. The remaining symbols become stacked with more of the same type, followed by a refill. This repeats until the refill no longer drops any new symbols of the Collector’s type.

Pipes, Fireworks, Trees, and Volcanoes are locked at the start of the game. After 3 Whales have triggered, the Pipe is unlocked. After 3 Pipes have triggered, Fireworks are unlocked. This pattern repeats from Fireworks to Trees, and from Trees to Volcanoes. Progression is saved at the bet level.

Free Spins

Hitting 3 scatters starts the bonus round with 3 super drops. In the bonus, the grid size expands to 7×7 and Whales, Pipes, Fireworks, Trees, and Volcanoes do not appear. Instead, a UFO feature symbol can land, and all pay symbols are stacked, except for Coin row drops, as shown by a number. In addition, landing a scatter grants +1 free spin. When a UFO symbol appears, the Ultra Beast activates, replacing the visible Collectors. It empties the grid, paying for all pay symbols. This may repeat until the Ultra Beast departs, which triggers a refill and brings back the standard Collectors. Ultra Bonus spins do not reduce the remaining spin count.

With World Eaters, ELK Studios again avoids the safe, standard approach, opting for an offbeat concept that combines collecting, unlockable worlds, and an expanding set of available features. The game is packed with ideas and, in several respects, feels like an upgrade from Slurpy. Still, because the core concept has been seen before, the initial “wow” factor isn’t quite as strong this time. Reaching the forest world didn’t take too long; getting to the volcano world took more time, and moving through the different worlds creates a pleasing sense of momentum, even if triggering free spins naturally can feel like hard work. The rotating Collectors also help keep things feeling in motion, so the gameplay rarely feels still.

Coins, multipliers, Piggy Banks, Grey Houses, world features—World Eaters piles on the mechanics, yet despite the added complexity, it generally remains easy to track what’s happening. That said, understanding the rules may take more effort than with a standard slot, and it can take even longer to fully appreciate the flow if you’re not used to ELK Studios’ experimental style. When bonus rounds do arrive, they can deliver the kind of show Slurpy fans were looking for, although repeatedly getting the “wrong” Collectors can be irritating.
