Wolf Power Megaways: Slot Overview

Wolf Power Megaways is the fifth Megaways slot to come out of the Playson studio, and a clear pattern is starting to show. With the exception of The Fruit Megaways, the rest have essentially been revamped takes on earlier titles. You could throw around plenty of theories for why Playson keeps doing this—speed, simplicity, catering to existing fans, running low on fresh concepts, or just a fondness for the originals. The list is endless. Either way, Wolf Power Megaways isn’t the sort of game that invites deep reflection, so let’s jump in and see what it offers.

The original release was titled Wolf Power: Hold and Win, which pretty much sets expectations for Wolf Power Megaways. If you’re picturing a wilderness-themed slot packed with animals and a streak respin-style bonus, you’re right on the money. Both games share many of the same symbols and visual elements, including a brooding, moonlit backdrop that washes the landscape in cool blue shades. It’s fine, but nothing particularly distinctive, and the gameplay follows suit.

The biggest change is that play now takes place on a shifting Megaways grid, with 6 reels showing 2-6 symbols each. That means the number of win ways changes every spin, reaching up to 46,656 at maximum. First up is choosing your stake, and Wolf Power Megaways supports wagers from 20 p/c to $/€100 per spin, or you can head straight for the streak respin bonus round by selecting the cart icon on the left. It’s a medium/high volatile slot, and the RTP wasn’t provided during testing, which typically isn’t a great sign. In general, that lack of clarity is disappointing and should be treated as a potential red flag.

In the base game, players gather coins and trigger free spins when at least three matching symbols land left to right starting from the first reel. Landing six of the J-A symbols returns 1x the bet, while six owls, mountain goats, eagles, or bears pay 5-20x your stake. Wolf wilds are the top standard symbol, paying up to 50 times your stake for five of a kind, and they also substitute for any regular symbol to help form winning ways.

Wolf Power Megaways: Slot Features

Wolf Power Megaways includes the same two bonus features as the original title—free spins featuring full reel wilds, plus a streak respin bonus round that comes with jackpots.

Free Spins

The mountain in the moonlight icon acts as the scatter, and hitting 3, 4, 5, or 6 at once awards 10, 15, 20, or 25 free spins. During free spins, all wild symbols expand to fill the entire reel whenever they appear.

Bonus Game

There are two additional symbols that can land on the reels: the Bonus symbol and the Power symbol. Hitting any combination of 6 or more of these activates the bonus game. The triggering symbols are locked in place as the remaining symbols are cleared away—3 respins are awarded at the start, and any new Bonus or Power symbols that appear will lock as well, resetting the respin count back to 3.

A third symbol can also show up in the bonus round, known as the Booster. When a Booster lands, it adds an additional position to its reel, up to 6 high at the most, and adds +1 to the applicable reel multiplier, which starts on x1. Once the respins end, Bonus symbol values are increased by their corresponding reel multiplier and paid out. On top of that, players receive a jackpot based on how many Power symbols are visible—1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 Power symbols award 5x, 20x, 50x, 150x, 500x, or 2,000x the bet, respectively.

Buy Bonus

Where offered, players can purchase the respins bonus round. Add it to the basket and pay 100x the bet to instantly land the necessary number of Bonus or Power symbols.

Wolf Power Megaways: Slot Verdict

Given the last few Playson Megaways launches, plus a quick look into Wolf Power Megaways beforehand, we weren’t exactly eager to put it to the test. Unfortunately, playing Wolf Power Megaways only reinforced that hesitation. There simply wasn’t much here to get enthusiastic about. Familiar wildlife presentation, familiar features, familiar feel—pretty much across the board. The only thing that sparked any real reaction was the oddly placed shopping cart bonus buy button (what is this, Amazon?), and it wasn’t a good one.

As for how it plays, the experience is a bit of a mixed bag. On the positive side, if you’re specifically after another moon-and-wolves nature slot built around a jackpot-style respins bonus, then sure—Wolf Power Megaways is broadly on par with plenty of similar games. It also includes full reel wild free spins, which is a nice extra. That said, the studio hasn’t really done anything to evolve Megaways or take the format in a new direction. If anything, even though Wolf Power Megaways is larger than the original, it doesn’t feel like a meaningful leap forward, which raises the question of why Playson revisited it when the end result is so predictably average.

It feels like Playson is happy to keep producing these middle-of-the-road Megaways remakes, and we assume there’s an audience for them somewhere. With more and more studios licensing Megaways and adding their own entries to the ever-expanding catalogue, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to stand out. Based on Wolf Power Megaways, it doesn’t seem like Playson is trying particularly hard to do so.
