Win-A-Beest: Overview
When people head to Africa for a safari or a hunt, wildebeests rarely sit near the top of the “must-see” or “must-bag” list. That spotlight usually falls on the big five (elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, buffalos), plus whatever else crosses their path. Developer Play’n GO aim to change that by putting the powerful yet unassuming wildebeest front and centre. Also known as a Gnu, it’s been smartly rebranded here as the Win-A-Beest, backed up by expanding reels, wild multipliers, and free spins.
The game opens on sweeping African plains. Play’n GO have a knack for strong presentation, and they’ve clearly put effort into Win-A-Beest. The 5-reel playfield is framed inside a structure resembling a safari/hunting lodge, with wooden beams bound together and decorated with horns. In the distance, windswept Savannah grass, rolling hills, and African Acacia trees complete the scenery. It’s a striking setting.
Available on any device with stakes from 10 p/c to $/€100 per spin, the reels begin in a 2-4-4-4-2 layout, delivering 256 ways to win. During feature play, though, both the number of rows and the win ways can increase, as outlined below. Wins are made when three or more matching symbols land in a row from the first reel onwards. Naturally, that’s a little tougher in the base game because the first reel has only two positions, but the features can improve the chances when they kick in.
Even with all the wildlife on display, the underlying math isn’t quite as ferocious. By Play’n GO standards it’s fairly restrained, carrying a medium volatility rating of 6/10. As for RTP, it’s worth checking the paytable before you start, since RTP can differ by operator; the default is 96.12% but it may be set lower depending on configuration.
The paytable shows a mix of African-themed symbols, with the unimpressed-looking animals taking centre stage. At the low end are J-A icons styled like carved wood, albeit in bright colours. Above them come the animals – leopards, rhinos, lions, and elephants. These are the high pays, and five of a kind returns between 2 and 2.5 times the stake.
The Win-A-Beest symbol is labelled the Super High Pay, awarding 5 times the stake for five of a kind. “Super High Pay” might sound a touch optimistic at first, but the features can dramatically boost its impact. Win-A-Beest also includes two wild types – a regular wild and a x2 wild multipliers that doubles the payout when it contributes to a winning combination.
Win-A-Beest: Features

There’s a reason the creatures on the reels look so irritated. Win-A-Beest is capable of flipping into overdrive without warning thanks to heavy-hitting mechanics like Beest Mode, Beest Mode Spins, and Stampeding Spins.
The Beest Mode feature can randomly activate in the base game or during free spins. When it hits, all reels expand to the full 4-row height, pushing win ways to 1,024. On top of that, regular symbols are stripped away, leaving only wilds, scatters, wild multipliers and Win-A-Beests to land while Beest Mode is running.
If 3 or more scatters land during Beest Mode, Beest Mode Spins begin – 3, 4, or 5 scatters awards 4, 6, or 8 Beest Mode Spins respectively. Throughout these spins, Beest Mode is guaranteed on every round, so 1,024 ways to win are always active and only wilds, scatters, wild multipliers, and Win-A-Beests can appear. In theory, this bonus can be retriggered endlessly.
Hitting at least 3 scatter symbols in the base game starts a separate feature called Stampeding Spins – 3, 4, or 5 scatters in view award 8, 12, or 20 free spins. These are played on the fully expanded 1,024 ways grid as well, and if Beest Mode is active, Beest Mode Spins can be triggered from within a Stampeding Spin. When that happens, the Beest Mode Spins run as a separate sequence before play returns to the remaining Stampeding Spins. In addition, scatters stay locked on the reels, and the feature can be retriggered with no stated limit.
Win-A-Beest: Verdict
Win-A-Beest may look fairly straightforward at first, but it’s packing some genuinely clever feature work. Beest Mode can rip open the reel set at any moment, dramatically widening the play area. Even stronger is landing a run of Beest Mode Spins, which ramps up the odds of a big moment. Stampeding Spins then goes further still, with the possibility of chaining all three features together in sequence.
While Win-A-Beest isn’t classed as high volatility, it’s still a game that can turn wild, yet it can also provide solid session length. A quick bit of number-crunching suggests 5,120x for a screen filled with Win-A-Beests when all ways are active, and it becomes even more appealing when an x2 wild multiplier lands. Across a billion simulated spins, wins reaching 10,240 times the stake were recorded. That’s a strong result for a medium volatility title, and also a higher-than-usual ceiling for Play’n GO overall.
Win-A-Beest is another Play’n GO release where it’s difficult to find much to criticise. The visuals are excellent, the features can erupt, and there’s real promise hiding in the grass like a stalking predator. It may not reinvent the African nature theme, but it’s a dependable, high-quality entry that stands head and horns above plenty of others in the genre.
