Wild Wild Bass: Slot Overview
Perhaps any anglers reading can explain to everyone else what makes bass such a big deal? After digging around a bit, it wasn’t easy to pinpoint what, if anything, really sets bass apart from other fish in the sea. In slots, though, they keep swimming back into view, and Wild Wild Bass from Stakelogic is the latest entry in that growing school. As with many “bass” titles, Wild Wild Bass traces its lineage to the classic Fishin’ Frenzy, a modest, low-key slot that has inspired a huge number of copycats over the years. Here, the main extra hook is a bonus round called the Insane Catch, which blends money symbol collecting with multipliers.
A major spark behind the modern Fishin’ Frenzy resurgence was Pragmatic Play and Reel Kingdom’s smash Big Bass Bonanza, which then produced plenty of sequels of its own. It’s worth bringing up Big Bass Bonanza because Wild Wild Bass looks very similar from a visual angle. Staying true to the theme, the action unfolds offshore, with a lively grid floating under the ocean surface among weeds, rocks, and fish. Visually, there isn’t a great deal to unpack with Wild Wild Bass. It’s set exactly where these games usually are, so it checks the familiar boxes for armchair anglers wanting that salty-water vibe—though it may take a bit of imagination to really feel it.
Running on a 6-reel, 3-3-4-4-4-4 arranged game panel, Wild Wild Bass is a highly volatile slot with up to 5,625 ways to win – a big leap from the original’s 10 paylines. Winning symbols can appear on any row, provided three matching icons land on adjacent reels starting from the leftmost reel. This setup produces an overall return to player of 96.01%, and although the max win wasn’t available at the time of writing, the combination of ways and multipliers hints at solid upside for this style of game. If the idea of reeling in cash-carrying fish is tempting, Wild Wild Bass is playable on any device, with base stakes set from 10 p/c to $/€10. Alternatively, hit the Super Stake button to boost the bet by 40% for more wilds in the base game, which in turn improves the odds of triggering the Big Catch or Insane Catch features.
Next up is the paytable, which lists eleven regular paying symbols. At the lower end are 9-A card icons framed by life rings, paying 10 to 20 times the base stake for 6 of a kind. Above them are more fishing-themed higher pays—tackle boxes, life rings, floats, seagulls, and fishing rods—worth 25 to 150 times the stake for a six of a kind hit. Wilds appear on reels 1 or 2, substitute for any standard pay symbol, and are also required to activate certain features, as outlined below.
Wild Wild Bass: Slot Features
Landing two wild symbols on the first two reels triggers the Big Catch feature. While Big Catch is active, if an Insane Catch symbol lands, the Insane Catch feature is awarded.
Big Catch
Another symbol type in Wild Wild Bass is the bass fish symbol. These tiles show cash values. When 2 wilds land on reels 1 and 2, an extra position is added to reels 3 to 6, and the value of any bass symbols currently visible is collected. Once the reels are fully expanded, 5,625 ways to win are in play.
Insane Catch
Insane Catch symbols are fish symbols that land only on reel 6, displaying free spin values. If an Insane Catch symbol lands while there are 2 wilds on reels 1 and 2, the Insane Catch feature begins and awards 2, 3, or 4 Insane Spins. During Insane Spins, reels 1 and 2 merge into a single multiplier reel, showing values of x1 to x5 each spin. On reels 3, 4, 5, or 6, either empty spaces or bass symbols can appear. Any bass symbols on screen are multiplied by the current multiplier. Additional Insane Catch symbols can also land, granting additional free spins.
Wild Wild Bass: Slot Verdict
Just when it seems like the fishing-themed money-collection formula has been explored from every angle, another take on the hugely popular setup arrives. Stakelogic’s slogan may be “Think Bigger”, but does releasing yet another fishing slot with a small twist really count as bigger? “Think Medium” doesn’t quite have the same punch, yet Wild Wild Bass feels fairly average overall. Another Fishin’ Frenzy rework isn’t likely to set the industry on fire or have many players thinking this studio is truly pushing boundaries.
In short, Wild Wild Bass comes across like a fishy blend of Fishin’ Frenzy, Big Bass Bonanza, and Pragmatic Play’s Wild Wild Riches. Much like the last of those, it leans on the familiar concept of landing two wilds on the first two reels alongside money symbol collecting and multipliers—only this time it’s fish instead of leprechauns leading the charge. If that mix sounds appealing, Wild Wild Bass could be right up your alley. Still, a couple of things stood out. The biggest was that getting multipliers above x1 during Insane Catch felt extremely rare. An x5 appeared once, but it landed by itself, with no money symbols on the other 4 reels to take advantage of it. Over time, the bonus round started to feel a bit stacked, particularly because the multiplier reel makes it seem like each multiplier value should have an equal chance of showing up.
All told, Stakelogic demonstrates its knack for borrowing ideas from other titles, rearranging them, renaming the parts, and presenting the result as a fresh package. Wild Wild Bass clearly isn’t groundbreaking, but it does offer enough to interest players after a new Fishin’ Frenzy-style spin—just be ready for features that can be as stubbornly frustrating as real-life fishing.
