Wild Duel: Slot Overview

Armenian bunch Peter & Sons are a creative lot, and they tend to put their own stamp on both familiar and less expected themes. One setting they’ve tackled before is the Wild West (Sheriff Colt)—as have most online slots providers, of course. We could spend ages discussing why developers keep returning to this corner of the map, but it’s easier to drift along like a tumbleweed and accept it. In Wild Duel, Peter & Sons apply their distinctive visual style to the West, packing in an offbeat Wild Duel feature, respins, sticky wilds, expanding wilds, multiplier wilds, and free spins.

Alongside the unmistakable Peter & Sons look, Wild Duel also presents the classic frontier town from a different angle. Rather than sitting on a dusty street outside a saloon, you get a bird’s-eye view down the road, with buildings to the north and south of the main game panel. This isn’t just for novelty—it allows characters to show up on the left and right of the screen to face off in duels, which can occasionally trigger features. As you arrive on the home screen, whistling from ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly‘ soundtrack sets the tone, and it does the job nicely.

Wild Duel runs on a 5-reel, 3-row layout with 10 fixed ways to win. It’s labelled highly volatile, and we can’t really argue with that, as the game can dish out plenty of pain. Still, there are prizes to be had, helped by a solid return to player figure of 96.1%. Gunslingers can jump in on any device and choose stakes from 10 p/c to $/€50 per spin.

Wins land when three to five matching symbols appear on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel. The mix of symbols includes low-paying 10-A card ranks, paying 2-4x the bet for five of a kind, plus cacti, TNT, skulls, and bottles as the higher-value icons worth 7-11x the bet. Living up to its title, Wild Duel is loaded with wilds in multiple varieties. At their base, they substitute for any paying symbol, and some also come with extra roles explained below.

Wild Duel: Slot Features

There’s quite a bit happening in Wild Duel, but it’s not especially complicated. The action mainly revolves around scatter and wild symbols, as you’ll see.

Wild Duel Feature

Hitting 2 scatters anywhere on the reels activates the Wild Duel feature, and a respin is also granted. For this respin, 2 new 3-position reels appear on both sides of the grid. The left one is the Marshal Reel, while the right one is the Outlaw Reel. During the respin, the Outlaw Reel randomly shows outlaws with multipliers of x1 to x10, or blank spaces. The Marshall Reel contains blank spaces or characters, which each trigger random wilds, full reel expanding wilds or sticky wilds, respectively. Sticky wilds persist while respins are active.

When 2 characters land opposite each other on the same row, they duel. If the Marshall wins, the relevant wild feature is awarded together with the matching Outlaw multiplier. More than one duel may happen at once, and winning at least one duel awards another respin. Respins keep going as long as Marshals win duels. If no further duels occur or Marshalls lose, the feature finishes.

Wild Placement

On any non-winning base game spin where no duels are triggered, the wild placement feature has a chance to activate. When it does, 3 wilds drop into random positions on the reels.

Free Spins

Landing 3 scatters in the main game awards 10 free spins. During free spins, the Wild Duel feature is unlocked for the whole session. Winning duels awards respins – 1 duel in a spin awards +1 free spins, whilst 2-3 duels in a sin awards +2 free spins.

Wild Duel: Slot Verdict

Honestly—what was that? We must have met Wild Duel on an off day, because it delivered one of the driest test sessions we’ve had in a while, and not only because of the dusty frontier theme. Dead spins flowed like moonshine on payday, and the features had a habit of teasing. To be fair to Wild Duel, any slot can run cold, but this one absolutely gave us a kicking during testing. It may look like another P&S charmer, yet it wasn’t messing around. Catch Wild Duel on a rough streak and it’s like the stagecoach didn’t just refuse to let you rob it—it ran over you, your horse, your dog, and anything else nearby for good measure.

After spending a while wondering whether the game even had a bonus round—or if we’d misunderstood the rules—it eventually showed up and made itself known. To Wild Duel’s credit, the bonus rounds had plenty going on, with lots of duelling and a real sense of action. There’s also serious upside here, up to 10,000x the bet, when the right wilds land, stick, or manage to drag in enough multipliers along the way. The duel concept can feel a bit unnecessary, since the same Wilds and multipliers could have been applied directly to the reels. But that’s not really Peter & Sons’ flamboyant way, and their take on the Wild Duel feature is undeniably entertaining.

Add it all up and you get a tough, no-nonsense game that Western lone rangers may be happy to take on. Wild Duel’s layout and feature set carry a faint Dead or Alive vibe, though without the dark, gritty edge, largely thanks to the cartoonish style Peter & Sons are known for. Still, don’t holster your weapon for long—like NetEnt’s classics, Wild Duel isn’t here to take prisoners.
