Wild 1: Slot Overview

It’s getting a little eerie: here’s yet another developer whisking players off to a post-apocalyptic setting. There’s been a noticeable wave of games like this recently, to the point you start to wonder… do these studios know something they’re not saying? Or, for the conspiracy-minded, are they trying to quietly “warn” everyone through their releases? Hidden in plain sight, so to speak. Maybe, maybe not. What’s certain is that in Peter & Sons’ slot Wild 1, players are dropped into a future where, as usual, something has gone terribly wrong and humanity has been pushed back into survival mode.

In Wild 1, the catastrophic turning point is dubbed ‘the grand collapse’, and for a dystopian event, that’s a spot-on title that nails the atmosphere. In P&S’s take on tomorrow, there’s chatter of new wars being fought on ancient roads, and old machines turning into the gods of a new age, and so on. All of this frames a 6×4, 4,096 ways grid set in a dusty junkyard littered with wrecked cars. Beside the reels stands a grizzled, bearded, turquoise-skinned guy strumming a ‘geetar’, backed by a rock-forward soundtrack that feels like a honky-tonk desert cruise. The theme may be end-of-days, but this is Peter & Sons, so it’s rendered in full cartoon style—more goofy than grim.

Peter & Sons lets you jump into the apocalypse on any device, with stakes ranging from 20 p/c to $/€50 per spin. Sitting at 96%, the RTP is solidly average, while the hit rate comes in at 26.79%—wins require three to five matching symbols. Gameplay leans volatile, and while the ceiling sounds impressive, what turned up in simulated play does take some of the shine off—more on that shortly.

First, the paytable: it starts with spades, clubs, diamonds, crosses, and hearts as the lower-paying symbols, alongside five characters shown on hot-rod icons. A six-of-a-kind combination returns 0.3 to 0.5 times the stake for the low pays, or 0.8 to 3 times the stake for the high pays. Multiple wilds show up throughout the game, largely tied to the feature set; let’s dig into those.

Wild 1: Slot Features

Wild 1 revolves around a trademark Wild Reel positioned across the top of the main grid, which feeds different wild symbols into play through the cascade mechanic. On every spin, the Wild Reel can randomly show Wilds, Unbreakable Wilds, Expanding Wilds, blank spaces, and Multiplier Wilds, depending on the tier currently in effect.

Cascades

The cascade feature removes winning combinations from the reels, after which new symbols drop down to plug the gaps, potentially chaining wins together. The key detail: when a cascade happens, Wild symbols from the Wild Reel drop into the spaces beneath them before the standard symbols on the main reels fall into place.

Bomb Feature

If 2 scatters are visible at the end of a cascade chain, they detonate and clear symbols in a 3×3 block, which then sets off another cascade. In addition, once 2 Bomb triggers have happened, players move up a tier:

  • Tier 0 – Wild Reel can have Wilds or blanks.
  • Tier 1 – Wild Reel can have Wilds, Multiplier Wilds, and blanks.
  • Tier 2 – Wild Reel can have Wilds, Unbreakable Wilds, Multiplier Wilds, and blanks.
  • Tier 3 – Wild Reel can have Wilds, Unbreakable Wilds, Expanding Wilds, Wild Multipliers, and blanks.

With a title like Wild 1, you should expect several wild types—and all of them can substitute for any paying symbol. Regular wilds work in the standard way, Expanding Wilds grow to cover an entire reel, and Unbreakable Wilds stay put until the cascade sequence ends. Wilds with multipliers can reach values up to x10 and boost any win they help create.

Free Spins

The bonus round is triggered when 3 scatters land, granting 10 free spins. Every extra scatter visible adds +1 free spin. During free spins, the Wild Reel becomes Superpowered, so a greater frequency of wild symbols appear. Hitting 1 scatter gives an extra free spin, 2 scatters activate the Bomb feature, and 3 or more scatters award +10 free spins.

Wild 1: Slot Verdict

The visuals are undeniably distinctive and the audio leans nicely into crunchy rock, but Wild 1 didn’t hook us right away in the way Peter & Sons’ games often do. The studio’s post-apocalyptic future felt a touch undercooked. Yes, P&S clearly chose a more upbeat, tongue-in-cheek take on civilisation’s downfall—what they smartly label the grand collapse. But, like Kaiser’s carefree swagger in no man’s land, that approach also means Wild 1 doesn’t deliver the same visceral punch you get from similarly themed titles such as Cash Truck, Nitropolis 3, or Mayhem.

That said, this is Peter & Sons; they’d rather commit to their own style than chase what everyone else is doing. Right now, part of that seems to be testing Wild Reel-style ideas, something we also saw in Valkyries. It also didn’t take long to stack up enough Bomb triggers to climb through the tiers, which adds more Wild variants to the Wild Reel. It happened so quickly that the tier progression felt a bit unnecessary, though it may still give some players a reason to keep pushing.

What really stood out was how low-impact the overall experience felt. Some of that comes down to the end-of-the-world theme being so laid-back, with less frantic energy than other, more compelling slots in the same space. Cascades and Wild Reel drops occurred often, but they seldom led to anything memorable. Even the game’s promo videos were oddly subdued. You’d expect those to highlight something big—maybe the max win—but instead they stayed pretty restrained. On the subject of max win, the paytable states winnings of over 10,000x, yet a closer look at the rules shows that across one billion simulated spins, a 5,000x outcome occurred once.

Of course, stats aren’t the whole story, and Wild 1’s figures are perfectly respectable, but they didn’t feel especially motivating—perhaps because the slot we reviewed just before it (Remember Gulag) offered much higher potential and a far better max win probability. Even so, cold numbers don’t prevent Wild 1 from being a quirky, playful spin on the post-apocalypse. Still, by the end, Wild 1 came across as one of Peter & Sons’ less appealing releases.
