White Rabbit 2: Slot Overview

A title that played a big part in putting Australian slot developer Big Time Gaming on the radar was its trippy 2017 success White Rabbit. Thanks to the Expanding Reels mechanic and the inventive Feature Drop (often credited as the first genuine bonus buy slot), players were eager to dive down the rabbit hole. Eight years later, the studio heads back to Wonderland with White Rabbit 2, a slot that reintroduces the Expanded Reels in free spins setup, while layering in extras like a Hold and Spin feature and Megapots prizes. Can it live up to long-standing fan expectations, or will it fall into the classic sequel trap?

White Rabbit was a Megaways slot inspired by Lewis Carroll’s surreal classic Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. It drew heavily on the story’s cast, dropping them into a vibrant, fantastical world packed with colour and flair. White Rabbit 2 follows the same path and leans even more on the famous characters during the Hold and Spin feature, where each one brings a unique modifying power. Outside of that, the presentation is very much in line with the first game—mushroom-filled, bright, and delightfully strange.

Running on a 5-reel grid, White Rabbit 2 pays for matching symbols that connect on adjacent reels starting from the far-left reel. In the base game, reels can reach up to 7 positions high, delivering 16,807 ways to win, while in free spins they can expand to 12 positions high, allowing up to 248,832 ways to win. You can set stakes from $/€0.20 to $/€20 in this highly volatile slot, which carries an RTP of 96.36%—decent, though clearly less generous than the return offered by White Rabbit.

The paytable begins with 9-A card royals, which return 0.6x to 1.5x the stake for a 5 OAK hit, followed by four gem symbols paying 2x to 25x the stake for 5 OAK. There is a single wild type, and it can land on any reel except the leftmost, substituting for all symbols except Coins, Cupcakes, and scatters.

White Rabbit 2: Slot Features

Some mechanics clearly nod back to the original, while others are new additions. The feature set covers a Hold and Spin round, free spins, Megapots, and bonus buys.

Hold and Spin

Hitting 6 or more Coin symbols activates 3 respins. While the feature is running, any position on the grid can land Coins, which then reveal either a Bonus Prize, a Character, or a Megapots icon. Whenever one or more Coins land, the respin counter resets to 3. Landing 3 Megapots icons grants the corresponding Megapots prize. If the grid becomes full of Coins, the round ends and the collected Bonus Prize total is doubled. When Character symbols appear, they behave as follows:

  • White Rabbit – multiplies the value of one Bonus Prize by up to x10.
  • Alice – gains the value of all Bonus Prizes.
  • Red Queen – collects the value of all Bonus Prizes.
  • Cheshire Cat – reveals a prize of up to 5x the stake and adds it to all Bonus Prizes.
  • Dodo – collects the value of all Bonus Prizes on that reel.
  • Mad Hatter – gains the value of one random Bonus Prize.
  • Twins – awards two Bonus Prizes of the same value, up to 20x the stake each.

The Bonus Prizes available during Hold and Spin depend on the number of symbols on the reel – up to 6x for 2 or 3 symbols, up to 2.75x for 4 or 5 symbols, or up to 1.5x for 6 or more symbols. Landing a Cupcake symbol expands the reel it hit on up to 12 high.

Free Spins

Scatters show up only in the base game. Landing 3, 4, or 5 awards 12, 16, or 20 free spins, respectively. Free spins begin with 5 to 7 symbols per reel, and those reel sizes carry into the following spin. However, if a Cupcake symbol lands, it expands that reel up to a maximum of 12 symbols per reel. These added positions also apply in the Hold and Win. Each time a reel reaches 12 symbols high, you receive between 3 and 12 additional free spins. A maximum of up to 5 retriggers is possible.

Megapots

The three Megapot prizes sit above the reels and change values on each spin. They can only be triggered during Hold and Spin. The Mini ranges from 100x to 300x, the Midi from 1,000x to 8,888x, and the Mega from 20,888 to 88,888x the bet.

Bonus Buy

The bonus buy menu offers two options: purchase the Hold and Spin feature for 35x the bet, or buy 12 free spins for 100x the bet.

White Rabbit 2: Slot Verdict

Few online slots arrive with as much expectation as White Rabbit 2. With nearly a decade between this and the original, there has been plenty of time for players to imagine how a sequel could push things forward. Now it’s here, carrying the pressure of trying to echo an iconic predecessor. Where the first game helped cement Big Time Gaming’s reputation for bold innovation, this follow-up takes a more cautious approach, expanding the formula with features that are more familiar. It still captures Wonderland’s quirky, psychedelic atmosphere, and the return of favourites like Alice, the Cheshire Cat, and the Mad Hatter adds extra charm—but the real issue is whether it delivers enough for those who have been waiting so long.

The likely answer is not completely—at least not in the same way White Rabbit did. The truly “new” elements mainly boil down to a hold ’n’ win-style feature and a set of jackpot prizes. That said, the Hold and Spin round is packed with entertaining Character symbols that can create some genuinely fun moments, and the Mega Megapots prize reaches a huge ceiling of 88,888x the bet—well beyond the original White Rabbit’s potential. Combined with BTG’s typically dependable maths, White Rabbit 2 is certainly capable of producing eye-opening results. Still, as with other sequels that have added Megapots, this inclusion may be the deciding factor: it could appeal to a broader audience while putting off part of the more dedicated fan base.

In the end, there’s a lingering sense that it could have gone further. What’s on offer is perfectly respectable: the numbers are strong, the features can deliver, and the game is crafted with care. Yet next to the first release, White Rabbit 2 doesn’t quite capture the same spellbinding sense of discovery. Even so, both returning fans and newcomers should find a solid slot here, even if the plunge down the rabbit hole feels a little less dramatic this time around.
