Warrior Ways: Slot Overview

Ever watched films or TV series where the hero relies on old-school weapons like bows and arrows, yet still comes out on top against villains armed with machine guns? If that kind of vibe appeals, then Warrior Ways from Hacksaw Gaming could be right up your street. The action unfolds in an ‘alternate Japan-inspired futuristic city’ where four clans fight for control. Those clans settle scores through the Duel feature, earning multipliers along with bragging rights, and the rivalry continues into two bonus games called Clash and Conquest.

Warrior Ways marks another trip to Asia for Hacksaw Gaming after Toshi Video Club, but the tone here is very different. The cute sushi nods are gone, swapped for ninja-like fighters in an urban backdrop washed in pink and purple dawn-or-dusk lighting. Or perhaps that glow is simply the city’s light pollution reflecting across the 5×4, 1024 ways wins grid. Either way, the presentation is stylish, blending a Warlords – Crystals of Power meets Bladerunner aesthetic. A distinctive soundtrack rounds it out, underlining the futuristic, city-based Asian theme Hacksaw is going for.

You can jump into the action on any device, with stakes running from 10 p/c to $/€100. Hacksaw rates the overall volatility 4 out of 5; however, the bonus-buy options are labelled ‘high’ and ‘medium’, giving players some control over risk. The RTP is variable, topping out at 96.33%, and can also be set to 94.42%, 92.30%, or 88.39% depending on configuration and market. The theoretical return shifts as well when a bonus game is purchased.

Tokyo’s current population across all three prefectures sits at roughly 35 million, so it’s anyone’s guess how packed the future city in Warrior Ways might be. What we do know is that four residents show up as symbols. The factions are the straightforwardly titled Red Clan, Blue Clan, Green Clan, and Orange Clan – and each Clan has both a high-paying and low-paying symbol. The four low pays award 0.5x the bet for five of a kind, while five high pays return 1x the bet. A wild symbol also appears, landing anywhere and substituting for all regular pays. It’s also the biggest standard payout, paying 50x the bet for a five symbol winning way.

Warrior Ways: Slot Features

With four rival Clans in play, conflict is inevitable, and Warrior Ways makes sure it happens regularly through the Duel feature. Duels are the backbone of the game, appearing in the base game as well as both bonus rounds.

Duels

A Duel is activated when a VS symbol lands right between two premium warrior symbols from different Clans. VS symbols can land on reels 2, 3, or 4. Once triggered, each warrior receives a random multiplier of x1, x2, x3, x4, x5, x10, x15, x20, x25, x50, or x100. When the Duel finishes, the winning Clan’s premium symbol replaces all instances of the losing Clan’s symbol. This may affect the lows, the highs, or both the low and high symbols of the defeated Clan. In addition, the VS symbol transforms into the winning Clan’s high symbol. If the resulting symbols create a win, the winner’s multiplier is applied.

Clash

This feature starts when 3 Clash symbols land anywhere on the grid. Clash begins with the Collect phase. In this phase, players receive 3 spins, and the counter resets whenever a VS symbol or Clan Multiplier symbol lands. Reel 1, 2, 4, and 5 corresponds to a Clan and each begins with an x1 multiplier displayed above it. When a Clan multiplier symbol with a value of x2 to x100 hits, that amount is added to the reel multiplier. There is also a chance for an Epic Clan Multiplier to land on reel 3, which multiples all other reel values by x2 when it hits. After the Collect phase ends, the bonus moves into the Clash phase. The number of VS symbols collected determines how many spins are awarded for Clash, and every spin guarantees a Duel. The battling Clan members carry over the multipliers built during the Collect phase.

Conquest

Lanbding 3 Conquest symbols in the base game awards 10 free spins. Each time a Conquest symbol lands during the feature, +1 extra free spin is added. Four Clan banners appear beside the reels in Conquest, and whenever a Clan loses a Duel, the banner takes damage. Once a banner has been destroyed by damaging it twice, that Clan’s high and low symbols are removed from the reels for the rest of the feature. When this occurs, +1 extra free spin is also awarded.

Buy Bonus

Using the Buy Bonus button, where available, allows players to purchase either bonus round. Clash is priced at 100x the bet, is highly volatile and has a maximum RTP of 96.44%. Conquest costs 400x the bet, is medium volatile and has a max RTP of 96.51%.

Warrior Ways: Slot Verdict

Hacksaw Gaming releases are often more straightforward than Warrior Ways, even if they’re still notoriously ruthless in how they’re built. Typically, there’s one smart base-game mechanic that then gets supercharged in a bonus. Warrior Ways goes further than that, offering extra layers that put it closer to titles like Wanted Dead or a Wild or The Bowery Boys. The Duel feature is the key idea throughout, linking everything into a single, ongoing Clan conflict.

Even with Clan Duels happening fairly often, the overall tempo can feel quite calm for long stretches. The Duels are entertaining enough, but the base game doesn’t have the same collection/progression feel as a battle slot like Yggdrasil’s Vikings Go range, nor does it offer the breadth of modifiers seen in Warlords – Crystals of Power. That difference stands out more because it can take a while to reach either of the two bonus rounds.

Which bonus is the better choice? Both delivered well. Clash comes first, and its Collect phase has a similar feel to Chaos Crew, where you’re trying to pile up as many multipliers and VS spins as you can. The twist versus Chaos Crew is that you then need to convert those multipliers into results during the Clash phase, adding another step to the process. Conquest is the much pricier buy and typically led to 1 or 2 sets of Clan symbols being stripped from the reels. Because Hacksaw used ways rather than paylines, removing symbols can be extremely impactful. Take control of these streets, and wins can reach up to 10,000x the bet.

Warrior Ways is a creative entry, combining a street-level gang-war storyline with strong atmosphere and features that connect smoothly with one another. As you’d expect from Hacksaw, it can be frustrating at times, but it also has everything needed to go toe-to-toe with the best when it’s firing.
