Wanted Unusual Suspects: Slot Overview
It takes a particular kind of character to hold the line in the face of disorder, choosing to stand as the barrier between law, order, and chaos. Roll things back a few centuries and the same could be said for anyone willing to serve as Sheriff in some forgotten, one-horse frontier town. Keeping the peace back then must have been brutal (not that it’s easy today), romanticised on film but genuinely risky in real life. If you’d rather skip the reality and play the role of lawman for a while, take a look at Northern Lights Gaming’s online slot Wanted Unusual Suspects, the next entry in the developer’s Unusual Suspects series.
The hard-edged, high-rise city backdrop from the first two games has been swapped for a rough frontier setting, where the buildings are smaller and far less solid. Even so, “gritty” doesn’t fully fit, because Wanted Unusual Suspects also gives off a slightly tropical feel—helped along by the pools of water beneath the reels and the surrounding greenery, which isn’t something you often see in this theme. The overall vibe remains familiar: lively, light-hearted, and loaded with features that keep things moving.

Using the coins button in the lower-right corner, players can set their stake from 20 c to $/€20 per spin. Wanted Unusual Suspects is a highly volatile slot, and the top RTP configuration offered is 96.05%. The game runs on a 5×3 gaming matrix with 20 paylines, paying winning combinations left to right starting from the first reel.
On symbol payouts, a five-of-a-kind line of 10-A card ranks returns 1 times their bet, while five manacles, pistols, dynamites, or gold bags pay 2x to 10x. Wilds—both Outlaw Wilds and standard wilds—can appear in both the base game and bonus game, substituting for all symbols except the Sheriff, coins, and scatter symbols. A line of 5 wilds pays 10 times the stake.
Wanted Unusual Suspects: Slot Features

As with the other titles in the line, Wanted Unusual Suspects is feature-heavy. The game includes Outlaw Wilds, coin symbols, Sheriff symbols, the Sheriff Backup Bonus, a Bonus Perk Bar, Scatter Nudging Respins, Bonus Perk Picks, free spins, and bonus buys.
Outlaw Wilds
When Outlaw Wilds land, they activate an Exploding Wilds feature that drops additional wilds onto the reels. The Outlaw Wild variations are:
- Purple Outlaw Wild – turns the top and bottom symbols on 2 random reels into wilds.
- Green Outlaw Wild – turns 1 random reel wild.
- Orange Outlaw Wild – turns 2 random reels wild.
- Blue Outlaw Wild – turns 4 to 7 random symbols wild.
Coin Symbol
Coin symbols may appear in the base game or bonus game with prize values of 1 to 100 times the bet, or they can show the 20x Mini, 50x Minor, 1,000x Minor, or 5,000x Grand Jackpot prize. Only one jackpot can be won. Additionally, every coin that lands creates an x1 sticky frame in that position. If another coin lands inside a frame, it increases that frame’s multiplier by +1 up to x5.
Sheriff Symbol & Sheriff Backup Bonus
Whenever a Sheriff symbol lands, it places coins into sticky framed spots that don’t already contain coins. Each Sheriff on the screen is awarded the value of all coin symbols currently on the reels, with sticky frame multipliers applied to the relevant coins. In the base game, frames disappear after the coin values are collected. During free spins, frames persist until the feature ends. Sheriff symbols cannot land in sticky frames. On top of that, the Sheriff can call for backup, bringing extra Sheriff symbols onto the reels.
Bonus Perk Bar
Scatters can land on any reel in the base game. When 2 scatters appear, a token is added to the Perk Bar. Gathering 50 tokens fills the bar. Once it’s full, an extra bonus pick is granted at the start of free spins. After the extra pick is used, the bar resets.
Scatters Nudging Respins
Landing 2 scatters on the top 3 rows activates nudging respins. Reels that contain scatters are held and nudge down 1 position, while the remaining reels respin. This repeats until a scatter reaches the bottom row or until 5 scatters are visible. With every respin, tokens are added to the Perk Bar.
Bonus Perk Pick
After free spins are triggered, players pick outlaws from a lineup to uncover one of the following boosters. If the Perk Bar is full, the extra bonus perk is included. Perk Bar progress is saved per bet:
- Free Spins Boost – unlocks the first bandit on the free spins trail, thereby awarding +5 free spins with an x2 multiplier.
- More Spins – awards +2 free spins.
- More Frames – adds 3 frames to the reels at the start of the feature.
- More Wilds – awards more wilds.
- More Sheriff – awards more Sheriff symbols.
- No Perk – when this is revealed, the picking session ends.
Free Spins
Landing 3, 4, or 5 scatter symbols awards 10, 15, or 20 free spins, respectively. Each Sheriff symbol that lands during free spins lights one position on the Bonus Trail. When a bandit is lit on the trail, the free spins are upgraded. The bonus trail resets when free spins end:
- Bandit 1 – awards +5 free spins with an x2 multiplier.
- Bandit 2 – awards +5 free spins with an x3 multiplier.
- Bandit 3 – awards +5 free spins with an x5 multiplier.
- Bandit 4 – awards +5 free spins with an x10 multiplier.
Once free spins finish, a Getaway Spin can be granted. If awarded, a Sheriff symbol will land on that Getaway Spin.
Buy Bonus
Via the bonus buy option, players may purchase free spins for 100 times their bet, or super free spins for 200 times the bet. Super free spins include more frames, more Sheriffs, and more wins.

Wanted Unusual Suspects: Slot Verdict
Wanted Unusual Suspects is the fourth release in a series that has moved through Unusual Suspects, More Unusual Suspects, a fishing-themed spin-off titled Unusual Catch, and now this instalment. A strong point has been how the series has stayed anchored to its core mechanics and crime-fighting tone (with the fish entry being the obvious exception), while still evolving from game to game. Wanted Unusual Suspects breaks from the previous three in a few notable ways. The biggest is the Wild West makeover, and shifting the lawman from modern times to one of history’s most iconic eras makes sense—the new theme fits the Unusual Suspects series extremely well. It may lean into familiar territory, but there’s a reason Western slots became a staple in the first place.
It’s also likely the gameplay adjustments will appeal to plenty of players. The gold bar overlays used to trigger the jackpot pick feature are gone. Instead, the focus shifts to jackpot coins and coin wins overall—both hugely popular mechanics—making it a smart change by Northern Lights Gaming. Much of what remains will feel familiar, and with this being the fourth game in the line, it’s clear the feature package has found an audience. With potential wins of more than 10,000x, there’s a solid amount of upside on offer. The Outlaw Wilds and their Exploding Wilds behaviour add a nice extra layer as well.
Overall, it’s difficult to argue that the updates Northern Lights Gaming has made are anything other than improvements. Yes, coin wins and Western themes could be called obvious or even cliched, but they can still be a lot of fun. More importantly, the new elements complement what came before while steering Unusual Suspects in a fresh direction. Maybe the next stop is the future—just speculating—something along the lines of a Cyberpunk 2077 vibe. Wherever the series heads next, it feels like Northern Lights Gaming isn’t finished with Unusual Suspects yet.
