Voodoo Temple: Slot Overview
Much like stumbling into the weird side of Youtube after one click too many, spending enough time on online slots means you’ll eventually run into a voodoo-themed title where you’re dealing with digital spirits. That might involve brewing concoctions inside a hut, or venturing into damp, remote backwoods where the line between the living world and the afterlife feels unusually thin. You’ll find both angles in Voodoo Temple, an online slot from Blueprint Gaming sibling studio Lucksome. In broad terms, voodoo is often split into two strands – Petro and Rado. Rado is the calmer, more benevolent side, while Petro leans darker, with zombies and curses entering the picture. Time to see which direction Voodoo Temple goes.
Voodoo Temple is Lucksome’s fifth release, and it’s hard to claim the studio has a single “house style.” Every game they’ve put out looks distinct, with Voodoo Temple arguably their most lavish presentation so far. The base game unfolds inside an odd wooden interior packed with wavering candlelight, hanging herbs, weighty books, and all the familiar voodoo trimmings. The audio is a standout too, layering eerie ambience with chanting, bells, and strange echoing effects. Voodoo Temple doesn’t fully plunge into pure darkness, but it definitely feels like it could with just a small push.
Lucksome remains just as adventurous with mechanics as they are straightforward with the numbers – and there are plenty of them. Right from the loading screen, key info is shown clearly, such as a bonus frequency of 3/10 and a win frequency of 7/10. Overall volatility is listed as 8 out of 10, but once the bonus round is triggered, players can pick from three routes, each with its own volatility setting – another familiar Lucksome touch. RTP sits at a solid 96.5% when playing normally, with stakes from 10 p/c to $/€200 per spin, or higher if you enable the Shadow Bet, which increases the stake by 20% while also doubling the chance of entering Shadow Mode.
Set on a 5-reel, 3-row grid, the game offers 243 ways to land winning combinations, shown by the ‘2’, ‘4’, ‘3’ markings on the three skulls beside the reels. The paytable contains 11 symbols; six are low-value stones etched with different patterns, while the higher pays feature potion bottles, animal skulls, cauldrons, voodoo dolls, and glowing-eyed heads. A five-of-a-kind pays 0.6x the bet for low symbols and 1.5-10x the bet for premium symbols. The priestess character acts as the wild and appears on reels 2, 3, or 4 to replace any standard pay symbol. She’s also central to the feature set, as you’ll see next.
Voodoo Temple: Slot Features
Voodoo Temple comes with a sizeable maximum win, and getting anywhere near it will depend on feature help like Multiplier Boosts, Shadow Mode, and Free Spins.
Multipliers
To the right of the reels, you’ll see masks displaying multiplier values. The default values are x2, x3, and x5, and these apply to wins when 1, 2, or 3 wild priestess symbols are in view, respectively. Randomly, the Multiplier Boost feature can activate, where priestess wilds raise the mask multipliers up to x25 in the base game, up to x30 in base game Shadow Spins, or up to x70 in Free Spins depending on volatility choice.
Shadow Mode
Shadow Mode can trigger randomly in either the base game or the bonus. Once it kicks in, for the next few spins masks can take on higher multiplier values, and when wild symbols land, they can increase those multipliers even more.
Free Spins
Bone pentagrams serve as the free spins scatter symbols, and landing at least 3 starts the bonus. At that point, players can choose from three options:
- Low volatile option – 3, 4, or 5 scatters awards 12, 15, or 20 free spins. Wins are multiplied by x2, x3, x5, or x6 when 0, 1, 2, or 3 wilds are in view.
- Medium volatile option – 3, 4, or 5 scatters awards 9, 12, or 16 free spins. Wins are multiplied by x3, x4, x6, or x8 when 0, 1, 2, or 3 wilds are in view.
- High volatile option – 3, 4, or 5 scatters awards 5, 8, or 12 free spins. Wins are multiplied by x2-x5, x3-x20, or x8-x50, when 1, 2, or 3 wilds are in view.
In free spins, the wild priestess may land stacked, and in the low or medium volatile option there’s a chance she will trigger Multiplier Boost or Shadow Mode. Shadow Mode is permanently enabled in the high volatile option.
Bonus Buy
Where available, the feature buy lets players purchase a 3, 4, or 5 scatter trigger for 115x, 150x, or 300x the total bet. The RTP when buying free spin is 97%.
Voodoo Temple: Slot Verdict
Lucksome are proving to be far less predictable than we first assumed. After their debut slot Divine Links and the follow-up Joker Maxima, it looked like the studio might stick firmly to traditional-style games. Since then, Loki brought a cheekier tone, and Way of the Tiger delivered a bright jungle adventure. Now Lucksome has stepped into more mysterious territory by leaning into voodoo themes, and they’ve done it with flair. Bold colours, smooth animation, and a genuinely chilling soundtrack mean Voodoo Temple can compete with games like Voodoo Gold when it comes to creating an absorbing atmosphere.
The design of the gameplay is strong as well, although the feature set can read a little confusing on paper because Multiplier Boosts and Shadow Mode overlap and achieve similar outcomes. In simple terms, your goal in Voodoo Temple is to land as many wilds as you can, ramp up the multipliers, and ideally connect with one or two higher-paying symbols along the way. Pull that off and the win potential reaches 20,000x the bet, although the win focus (as Lucksome calls it) is a more restrained 1,000x the bet. The path you take is partly in the player’s hands thanks to the three free spins choices, each offering different volatility and behaviour. It could have been interesting if the mask multipliers had a progressive mechanic. Still, the random way wild priestesses can spike mask values adds a swingy unpredictability that becomes its own kind of fun when it lands in your favour.
With one sharp pivot, Lucksome has moved into voodoo territory and produced a strong slot on the theme. In terms of mood, it doesn’t get much more “deep bayou” than this, and with its unpredictable multipliers, Voodoo Temple can turn a session swampy in an instant.
