Viking Wilds (Iron Dog Studio): Review
A few months back, Iron Dog Studio reached out and asked us to take a look at an upcoming video slot. At the time, we dismissed the idea, assuming it would be yet another run-of-the-mill release from a relatively unknown developer. We figured it wouldn’t attract much attention on our site, and since our time and resources are limited (unlike many other sites, we don’t outsource the work to hired writers), we chose to prioritize more mainstream titles.
At Bigwinboard, we test games constantly, and as gambling fans with a never-ending appetite for slots, we’ve learned to spot the promising ones. Often it’s something blatant—like an intro screen shouting huge win potential—but sometimes it’s a small detail that makes us dig deeper. Viking Wilds turned out to be one of those cases.
In this Norse-inspired slot, fronted by the striking winged warrior Valkyrie and an equally impressive Viking Berzerker, you’ll travel across icy islands and snowy peaks in pursuit of opening the gates of Valhalla, where a free spins bonus with rising multipliers and expanding win ways awaits. Playable on all devices with stakes from 0.20€ to 50€ per spin, Vikings Wild is built on a 5-reel, 1024 win ways setup that can reach up to 3125 ways through random reel expansions.
With a frozen backdrop behind the action, the reels feature Viking-styled A to J royals alongside axes, shields, helmets, and hammers. The top-tier symbols are three banners, with the red banner paying the most—landing 5 of a kind returns 5 times your stake.
Viking Wilds (Iron Dog Studio): Features

Viking Wilds is built around a cascading mechanic, described here as tumbling reels. When you hit a win, an avalanche effect kicks in—winning symbols disappear and new ones fall into place, continuing until no further winning combinations are formed.
Wild symbols get extra attention as well. Alongside the standard wild, there’s a sticky wild that shows up only on the middle reel. Unlike the standard wild, the sticky wild stays in play after a tumble win; instead, it shifts down by one position on the reel. You’ll also see an expanding wild on every reel except the first, and it grows to fill the entire reel.
The Valhalla free spins bonus starts when you land all three wilds within a single sequence of symbol drops, awarding 12 free spins with an initial x1 multiplier. If the triggering spin includes one or more expanded reels, you begin with an upgraded package:
- 1 expanded reel: 14 free spins with a x2 multiplier
- 3 expanded reels: 16 free spins with a x3 multiplier
- 5 expanded reels: 18 free spins with a x4 multiplier
During free spins, you’ll gain from increasing multipliers and expanding win ways. Each time an expanding wild lands or the expanding reels feature is triggered, the multiplier meter rises by 1 and the win ways increase. Any added multipliers and win ways remain active for the duration of the bonus.
Viking Wilds (Iron Dog Studio): Verdict
While it’s certainly not a poor slot, Viking Wilds isn’t the kind of game that’s likely to earn Iron Dog Studio major recognition. The story feels thin, the feature set doesn’t break new ground, and the visuals come across as fairly straightforward. Still, it has a few clear strengths. It plays very well and runs smoothly without irritating interruptions. On top of that, the 96% RTP is solid, and the 6000x max win potential alone makes it worth trying for a few spins.
Viking Wilds probably won’t be the big breakthrough Iron Dog Studio is aiming for, but it’s definitely polished enough to position the studio as a credible contender. The next step is proving itself in real-world play. Whether the potential is truly there or mostly marketing is something we’ll have to wait and see.
