Rise of the Valkyrie Splitz: Slot Overview

Rise of the Valkyrie Splitz marks the third entry in Boomerang‘s Lightning Chase slot series, and this instalment is driven by ReelPlay and Yggdrasil Gaming. Alongside the signature Lightning Chase hold-&-win core feature, Yggdrasil has also contributed Boomerang’s Splitz mechanic, which we hadn’t come across for a while prior to this review. Boomerang then links it to a spin-cycle idea that reintroduces Splitz symbols onto the grid on the tenth spin. But we’re jumping ahead—first, it’s worth taking in the Valkyrie-led Norse setting before digging into the mechanics.

To set the scene, Boomerang’s Lightning Chase games have generally leaned into mythic and fantasy themes. The first was Lady Merlin, held back by a clunky Boom+ ruleset, followed by Temple Frenzy, which removed Boom+ yet still didn’t really ignite. That leads us to Rise of the Valkyrie Splitz, where the action shifts to a rugged mountainous backdrop. Fans of Norse themes get attractive visuals, some animation touches, and a soundtrack that turns suitably dramatic at points. For a mythology-themed slot, Rise of the Valkyrie Splitz is certainly easy to look at.

With Low volatile gameplay and stakes ranging from 30 p/c to $/€30 per spin, the RTP is a welcome step up versus earlier titles in the line—coming in at a solid 96.51%—and there’s also a decent amount of potential on offer, as we’ll get to. On the 5-reel, 3-row layout, the hit frequency sits at close to 1 in 4, or 24.44%. Wins land when matching symbols connect left to right on adjacent reels starting from reel one. Because rows don’t matter for win evaluation, the game runs on 243 ways to win, though that can rise up to 15,552 once Splitz symbols start doing their work.

The paytable keeps things nicely on-theme, featuring card suit tiles that pay 0.33x the bet for five of a kind, plus spears, shields, spears, ravens, and gates, which return 0.66 to 1.66 times your stake for five of a kind. A Valkyrie riding a horse acts as the wild symbol, assisting by substituting for any standard paying symbol to complete winning ways.

Rise of the Valkyrie Splitz: Slot Features

Rise of the Valkyrie Splitz is built around sets of spins—specifically 10 at a time—through a feature called Spin 10 Splitz. The key detail is that the Valkyrie serves as the Splitz symbol, and when it appears it transforms into 2, 3, or 4 instances of paying symbols, coin symbols or wilds. Any wins are worked out after all Splitz symbols have completed their split. When splitting is at its maximum, the game can reach 15,552 ways to win. During spins 1 to 9 in a cycle, each time a Splitz symbol lands, its spot is highlighted with a distinctive border. Then, on the tenth and final spin, every bordered position converts into Splitz.

Hold and Respin

The other important symbol type to watch for is the coin symbols. Coins can carry values from 1 to 888 times the stake. If coins appear at the same time as the Collect symbol, their values are paid out. When at least 6 coins land, the Hold & Respin bonus activates and awards 3 respins. The coins that triggered the feature are held in place while the remaining positions respin. Any new coins that land are also held, and the respin counter is reset back to 3. The only other symbol involved is the Collect, which collects all coin values in view and then the feature continues. The round finishes once the respins reach zero.

Side Strike

When this add-on is offered, players can increase their wager via an optional side bet called the Side Strike. To take part, select a bet and choose how many red or green chips you expect to land on reels 1 and 5. These chips appear as small overlay icons during the base game. The RTP for the Side Strike is 98%.

Rise of the Valkyrie Splitz: Slot Verdict

The fun here will suit a particular type of player—perhaps someone drawn more to a bold theme than to heavy mechanical depth, or someone who enjoys these “batch of spins” style slots. There aren’t loads of them around, and none featuring Valkyries immediately spring to mind, so this is a fresh addition to that niche. It’s a smart twist to pair the ten-spin concept with Splitz, rather than the usual approach of adding a wild symbol on the final spin. Credit where it’s due: Rise of the Valkyrie can become genuinely engaging when plenty of positions have been marked across spins 1 to 9 and you’re waiting to see what the tenth spin delivers.

In fact, Spin 10 Splitz often felt more engaging than the main Lightning Chase hold ’n spin feature. Trying to stay upbeat, but it’s extremely straightforward. To the point that it slightly drags down what Rise of the Valkyrie Splitz otherwise brings. Yes, solid wins can happen, but the concept doesn’t feel especially developed—land coins, occupy positions, hit the Collect symbol, and that’s essentially the whole routine. Still, there is respectable upside available if everything aligns, with a top prize of 5,000x the bet.

Overall, Rise of the Valkyrie Splitz was fine to play, though not something we’d be eager to return to quickly. Boomerang are now three games into the Lightning Range, and while Rise of the Valkyrie Splitz avoids the more obvious quirks like the Boom+ annoyance and looks good, it also doesn’t do a great deal to make the series stand out in a big way.
