Unusual Suspects Cartel Cash: Slot Overview
Games Global partner Northern Lights Gaming looks to be onto something, doesn’t it? The studio found a decent level of success with the cops ’n robbers slot Unusual Suspects and followed it up with More Unusual Suspects, the fishing-themed Unusual Catch, and a Western entry called Wanted Unusual Catch. With momentum clearly in its favour, the team has rolled out another chapter: Unusual Suspects Cartel Cash. Think less stakeout and more south-of-the-border action, as detective Max Spinwell heads to Mexico to take on notorious cartels, and the familiar free spins have been swapped out for a Link&Win 4Tune round.
And honestly, you can ditch the sepia idea, because Unusual Suspects Cartel Cash paints Mexico in bright colours, shifting from a city backdrop to a flashy palatial villa—apparently crime pays here. Not for long, though, since Max is on the case. The presentation is energetic and colourful, helped along by a lively band, which Northern Lights Gaming says is the first time it has used a live band in production. The result is a real fiesta of visuals and audio.

Up to 4 matrices can appear during the bonus, though the base game sticks to a single one—and it’s been scaled down compared to earlier entries. Here, the layout uses 5 reels alongside 10 paylines for line wins. Out of the three RTP setups available, the top model returns 96.09% and is rated medium volatile. Along with two bonus buys, stakes run from 20 c to $/€20 per spin, with the note that Sticky Frames and token collection are stored per bet level.
Low-paying symbols are the Ten through Ace royals, paying 1x the bet for a 5 OAK. The higher-paying set includes dice, guns, dynamite, and loot, and these award 2 to 10 times the bet for a 5-of-a-kind. Wilds show up in the base game only and substitute for any paying symbol. Land 5 wilds on a payline to win 10 times the bet.
Unusual Suspects Cartel Cash: Slot Features

As you’d expect from the series, Unusual Suspects Cartel Cash comes packed with mechanics, including Coin symbols, Sticky Frames, multipliers, Detectives, Big Bosses, Outlaw symbols, and a Drive-By Bonus, while free spins are replaced by a Link&Win 4 Tune round, plus buy options. Silver Coins land with a multiplier value of up to 2.8x the bet, while Gold Coins land with a multiplier value of over 2.8x. A Coin Modifier can upgrade Silver Coins into Gold. Coin symbols can land in the base game and during the Link&Win 4Tune feature.
Frames
In the base game, any Coins and wilds that land leave behind an x1 Sticky Frame. By landing the right symbols inside them, the Sticky Frame multiplier can increase up to x5. Two Oversized Gold Frames sit on reels 2 and 4. In the Link&Win 4Tune feature, each reel set comes with its own Oversized Frames.
Detective Coin Bonus
The Detective symbols show up only on the second reel Oversized Frame. When one lands, it adds Coins to Sticky Frames that don’t already have Coins. Any multiplier values are applied to the Coins. After that, the Detective collects and awards all Coin values. Once the feature finishes, all Sticky Frames are cleared away. The Detective is also wild.
Big Boss Wilds
The Big Boss symbol appears only on the reel 4 Oversized Frame. When it lands, the Big Boss adds wilds to all Sticky Frames. Any multiplier on a winning line is applied to that win. All Sticky Frames are removed once this feature ends. The Big Boss is wild and only appears in the base game.
Outlaw Symbols
Outlaw symbols land on the reel 4 Outsized Frame and only during the Link&Win 4Tune feature. Outlaw symbols act as Coin modifiers:
- Multiply All – multiplies all Coins on its reel set by x2 to x10.
- Multiply One – multiplies 1 Coin on its reel set by x2 to x10.
- Adder – increases 1 coin on its reel set by 0.2x to 10x. On following spins, the Coin’s value increases by the same amount.
- Collector – collects and combines all Coins on its reel set into 1 Coin. Does not apply to Adder Coins.
Drive-By Bonus
The Drive-By Bonus can trigger at random in the base game, respins an Oversized Frame, and gives a chance to land a Detective or a Big Boss symbol.
Link&Win 4Tune Boost Bar
Whenever Diamond overlay tokens land on the reels, they are added to the Boost Bar. Once the bar reaches 50 tokens, it launches the Link&Win 4Tune feature with reelset 1 and 2 unlocked. After the bonus round completes, the bar resets.
Link&Win 4Tune
Hitting the Detective and the Big Boss in the base game activates the Link&Win 4Tune feature. It begins with 1 reel set active, with reelsets 2 to 4 available to be unlocked. Each unlocked reel set receives 3 respins. Only Coins, blanks, Detective, and Outlaw symbols can land. If any non-blank symbol lands, that reelset’s respin counter resets to 3. Landing the Detective and an Outlaw on the same reel set unlocks the next one: Reelset 1 – x1 multiplier, 20x Mini Jackpot, Reelset 2 – x2 multiplier, 50x Minor Jackpot, Reelset 3 – x3 multiplier, 500x Major Jackpot, and Reelset 4 – x5 multiplier, 5,000x Grand Jackpot.
When the bonus ends, the reelset awards are multiplied by the corresponding jackpot. If a reel set fills entirely with Coins, it pays its associated jackpot, though only one jackpot can be won.
Bonus Buy
You can purchase direct access to Link&Win 4Tune for 100x the bet, or choose the enhanced version with more Coins and more wins for 200x the bet. When buying the feature, tokens are not required.

Unusual Suspects Cartel Cash: Slot Verdict
Anyone who’s enjoyed Northern Lights Gaming’s Unusual Suspect titles so far has been well catered for, and this newest instalment should land nicely too. The series has moved a long way from the original downtown cops ’n robbers vibe—through fishing, then a Western, and now a Narcos-style cartel showdown. Even so, several familiar gameplay ideas have stayed consistent (or close enough) to keep the entries connected, like Sticky Frames, multipliers, and similar touches, though Unusual Suspects Cartel Cash drops the Big Bass Bonanza-style free spins in favour of a Link&Win round powered by 4Tune.
So far, the 4Tunes games we’ve encountered—Break Da Bank Again 4Tune Reels, Mega Moolah 4Tune Reels, Genie’s Link&Win 4Tune, and others—haven’t really impressed. The concept often feels like the same experience, just stretched across 4 reel sets rather than one. Unusual Suspects Cartel Cash makes the system more appealing by adding a total win multiplier to each unlocked grid and requiring you to unlock reelsets to reach the bigger jackpots. Put simply, the Link&Win 4Tune feature creates a stronger-than-usual urge to push forward. The win potential is respectable, even if it isn’t off-the-charts for the Unusual Suspects line, where an in-game message claims you can win over 12,000x.
As noted, fans of the series should enjoy this cartel-flavoured twist. The main potential drawback for some players is losing the free spins round, which had become a signature part of these slots. That said, the 4Tune round is implemented effectively here, and Unusual Suspects Cartel Cash takes the franchise in a direction it hasn’t explored before.
