Untamed Wilds (Yggdrasil Gaming): Overview
After years of talking with casino managers and studio reps, you keep hearing a familiar line: “guys, you wouldn’t believe the games people play!” If you’re a serious gambler and spend time in gambling communities or watching casino streams, it’s easy to assume most players think alike—that everyone prefers high variance, that RTP is widely understood, and that win potential is a top priority. In reality, that’s not how it works. Most players, including plenty of high rollers, simply choose something that looks entertaining and hope to enjoy the session.
Starting Untamed Wilds for the first time was one of those occasions where we had to pause and adjust our perspective. In our corner of the world, it usually takes a lot to make the classic 5×3 format feel fresh—especially with fixed paylines, and even more so when there are only 20 of them. So, trying not to judge too quickly, we got spinning to see whether it would make our neuron’s dendrites blossom or not.
To put it into context, the gameplay has some clear parallels with Yggdrasil’s 2016 release Seasons. Untamed Wilds is a 5 reel, 20 payline slot that runs smoothly on all devices and can be played from as little as 8 cents to 100€ per spin, making it accessible for all kinds of players and bankrolls. It features three game modes with distinct mechanics that can generate extra wilds as well as multipliers. On top of that, there’s a free spins round where up to 60 free spins can be triggered.
If your balance can handle it, Untamed Wilds takes you through different Arctic locations during play, letting you soak in everything from the aurora borealis to Alaska’s snow-covered mountain scenery. On the reels you’ll find four low-paying card suit symbols marked with animal tracks, alongside higher-paying animal premiums such as squirrels, owls, wild cats, arctic foxes and wild boars. The wild cat lynx sits at the top of the paytable, awarding 30 times your stake for a 5 of a kind.
Untamed Wilds (Yggdrasil Gaming): Features

As you play, the slot will rotate at random between three different Game Modes – Bear, Moose and Wolf mode. After 10 spins in any mode, it may switch to another one randomly. Each mode comes with its own dedicated wild symbol plus an additional modifier. Here’s what you get:
- Bear Mode – when the bear wild creates a win, it expands in a cross shape. Like in the screenshot above, it places a bear wild on every side of the original wild.
- Moose Mode – grants a randomly selected multiplier that affects all wins on that spin. The available multipliers depend on how many wilds land; more wilds lead to bigger multipliers. If 5 wilds land, for instance, you’ll receive a random multiplier of 7x, 8x, 9x or 10x.
- Wolf Mode – if the wolf wild is part of a winning result, it will copy itself to a different position. That position is selected to produce the highest possible win from all available spots.
There’s also a Free Spins feature, which essentially delivers more of the same. Landing 3, 4 or 5 northern light scatter symbols anywhere on the screen awards 7, 15 or 30 spins respectively. With the night sky lit up by polar lights (an aurora is a natural light display and the result of disturbances in the magnetosphere directly caused by solar wind), the free spins round uses whichever game mode is active when the feature is triggered. That’s basically the whole idea, with the added bonus that the feature can be retriggered, increasing your total to a maximum of 60 spins.
Untamed Wilds (Yggdrasil Gaming): Verdict
Untamed Wilds isn’t a straight copy, but it does share some noticeable similarities with Seasons, a well-known Yggdrasil slot praised in 2016 for its creative mechanics and impressive presentation. The themes overlap in several ways, and the core concept behind the gameplay is also broadly similar—although Seasons includes four game modes, while Untamed Wilds offers three.
Whichever title you decide to spin, neither is really aimed at players hunting for truly massive, bankroll-changing hits. Even though the top prize here is 2500 times your stake, a more typical “great day” result is closer to 500 to 1000 times your stake. With medium variance and a solid, balanced math model, Untamed Wilds is a good match for anyone who approaches gambling casually and mainly wants some enjoyable entertainment.
