Stormcraft also had some fun with the audio: hit the playlist button under the reels to choose from five tracks, ranging from atmospheric to full-on rock. Then, as you travel through different realms in free spins, the music shifts again, helping build a Marvel-style Thor setting to play in.

Thunderstruck Wild Lightning lets you wager from 20 p/c to $/€16, and it runs smoothly across devices. It’s highly volatile, with wins landing at roughly 1 in 4 to 5 spins, or 22.92%, while the RTP is set at 96.1%. There’s a hefty feature set too, including two bonus types and a collection mechanic, and they triggered more frequently than expected during the review. Away from the main jackpot, though, the overall upside may not be as high as some fans were anticipating.

In addition to standard Thunderballs, there are special blue, green, and yellow Thunderballs. Landing these during Link&Win awards the Mini, Minor, or Major Jackpots. If the entire grid is filled with Thunderballs, you win the Mega Jackpot. From smallest to largest, the jackpot values are 25x, 50x 150x, and 15,000x the bet.

Thunderstruck Wild Lightning: Slot Verdict

Stormcraft clearly invested a lot of effort into Thunderstruck Wild Lightning, and it can’t have been easy following a slot with such a loyal fanbase. There’s plenty to enjoy here, though it also raises a couple of questions. For example, why release it now? After eleven years of marriage, the traditional gift is steel. Mjolnir is steel, and Thor has those sculpted abs—maybe that’s the link? Whatever the motivation, even after eleven years, Thunderstruck Wild Lightning doesn’t burst out of Valhalla with the same instant impact its predecessor delivered.

In many ways, Thunderstruck Wild Lightning echoes an earlier Stormcraft title, Fire Forge, thanks to the jackpots and multiple free spins routes—though the potential is roughly a third as high. A definite plus is the adventurous structure of free spins, where you move through different realms and get fresh backdrops and music each time. Unfortunately, the first four options come with relatively modest max win limits compared to much of the market. Even so, the Wild Lightning feature is a strong addition, and landing a few fully stacked Thor multipliers can produce satisfying returns. Svartalfheim is arguably the highlight, offering that one all-or-nothing moon-shot spin. What you really don’t want at the end of free spins is facepalm Thor, which signals you’ve won nothing.

Even though it’s where the biggest prizes can land, the Link&Win feature feels a bit unnecessary. It’s a straightforward hold-and-win that resembles a pachinko-style round and doesn’t connect to the Thor theme as neatly as the free spin realms do. Rather than having Thor gesture around to “build” the Link&Win grid, it may have been better to drop it entirely and strengthen the free spins side instead.

That said, Thunderstruck Wild Lightning works well as a standalone Thor slot. It’s packed with the big man doing big, dramatic things—summoning lightning and swinging hammers—along with a deep feature list and a solid set of stats. The soundtrack is another highlight, pairing nicely with the superhero energy to create a weighty, world-saving atmosphere.

Overall, Thunderstruck Wild Lightning is a strong Thor-themed slot, but as a successor to Thunderstruck 2, it falls just a touch short. Microgaming, or its partners, could have leaned harder into the lasting affection players have for the older game and delivered a true all-time great. Instead, Thunderstruck Wild Lightning lands as a very capable release with plenty of smart touches, but not quite the iconic entry it could have become.
