Thor’s Rage: Slot Overview

Very few slots have made waves quite like Pragmatic Play’s smash hit Gates of Olympus, and it feels like hardly a week passes without it being mentioned in some way in a review. Sorry if you’re already tired of hearing about it, but here comes another comparison. This time it’s Thor’s Rage, and it looks like software provider Red Tiger wanted its own take on the familiar scatter pays, cascade, and multiplier symbol formula. Alongside the expected ingredients, the studio has also worked in a wild symbol that not only substitutes but then turns into a multiplier after it helps form a win. Are these tweaks enough to push Thor’s Rage to the top of the scatter-pay pile?

To be fair, Thor definitely looks like he’s in a mood here. He’s positioned beside the 6×5 playfield, eyes glowing, hammer ready, and he occasionally smashes the reels when wilds appear. Yes, Thor’s Rage includes wilds, which aren’t exactly a standard feature in scatter-paying slots. Better still, they conveniently shift into multiplier symbols as well—though we’ll cover that shortly. First, take in the snowy mountain backdrop, looming statues, and crackling lightning to see whether the setting delivers any real theme-driven intensity.

Thor’s Rage is a scatter pays slot, meaning wins happen when at least 8 matching symbols land anywhere across the grid. Any winning symbols are removed, letting the remaining symbols drop down, while fresh ones fall in from above to refill the empty positions. This can trigger repeated chain reactions for as long as new wins continue to land. Players can stake 10 c to $/€10 in this highly volatile game, which has a default RTP of 95.68%.

The paytable starts with five gem symbols along the bottom, then moves up to a ring, a gauntlet, a helmet, and a hammer as the premium icons. Scatter wins for 8-9 OAK return 0.3 to 10 times the bet, while 12+ OAK combinations pay 3 to 100 times the bet. Wild symbols replace all symbols except scatters. When a wild contributes to a win, it doesn’t vanish during the cascade sequence—instead, it transforms into a multiplier symbol.

Thor’s Rage: Slot Features

Beyond wilds and cascading wins, Thor’s Rage includes multiplier symbols plus a free spins feature that uses a persistent Total Multiplier.

Multipliers

Multiplier symbols can carry values from x2 to x1,000. Once a chain reaction run finishes, the total win is multiplied by the combined sum of all multipliers to determine the final payout.

Free Spins

Triggering the bonus by landing 4, 5, or 6 scatters grants 15 free spins and also awards a payout of 5x, 20x, or 100x the bet, respectively. In the free spins round, any multiplier symbols that help create wins are added up and stored above the reels as a Total Multiplier, which is not reset until the feature ends. Whenever a new multiplier is involved in a win, it is added to the existing Total Multiplier, and that updated value is then applied to the win. Wins that happen with no new multiplier symbol present are not affected by the Total Multiplier. Landing 3 or more scatters during the feature awards an extra +5 free spins.

Thor’s Rage: Slot Verdict

Gates of Olympus arrived back in 2021, so Thor’s Rage is admittedly joining the trend a bit late. Still, Red Tiger has produced a rival that largely sticks to the same blueprint while adding a few changes to give it at least some individuality. Up to a point. The most obvious shift is the god swap: where one game features Zeus from Ancient Greek belief, this one uses Thor from Norse belief. That may not be a massive leap in practice, and even though Thor’s Rage is newer by a few years, it looks broadly comparable in graphical quality. Gameplay sits in a similar place too, leaning on the well-worn combination of scatter pays, cascades, and multiplier symbols.

That said, Red Tiger didn’t go for a complete carbon copy when it created Thor’s Fury. There are a couple of differences worth noting. One is the higher top-end multiplier symbol value compared to Gates of Olympus, reaching x1,000, although Gates of Olympus 1000 matches that and also offers greater win potential than Thor’s Rage’s 10,000x the bet. Thor’s Rage does include a wild symbol, however, which the Gates titles don’t feature. The wild adds a bit of variation, and the way it switches into a multiplier after substituting in a win—rather than simply disappearing in the tumble—is a smart extra.

Even so, the wild alone can’t completely disguise how closely Thor’s Rage mirrors one of the most popular slots on the market in nearly every other respect. Still, it’s difficult to be too critical, since casino studios often “borrow” from one another with shameless regularity. Fans of scatter-pay gameplay likely already had plenty of options, but if you want a Thor-themed alternative with a wild-to-multiplier twist, you could certainly pick worse than Thor’s Rage.
