Thor’s Lightning (Red Tiger): Review

After covering two Norse-inspired slots earlier this week, it was starting to feel a bit repetitive. Luckily, Red Tiger Gaming’s entry not only looks the best of the three, it also delivers fast-paced, highly engaging gameplay. This epic journey, inspired by the legend of Thor and his hammer, unfolds on a 7×7 grid and uses cluster mechanics. You’ll find a solid mix of features, including base game enhancements and two separate bonus rounds. Thor’s Lightning allows bets from 0.20€ to 40€ per spin and runs on a standard RTP of 96.08%.

From a visual standpoint, it’s genuinely striking once you pause to take it all in. The scene is set among snowy mountains, with Thor’s mighty hammer, Mjölnir, resting beside the grid, half-buried in snow as if left behind. Huge stone slabs float calmly in the air, each etched with glowing neon-blue runes. The whole setting feels grand and could easily be the quiet aftermath of a monumental clash.

In the paytable, there are 4 rune stones as the lower-paying symbols, along with 4 premium stone carvings—where Thor’s hammer sits at the top. Land 40 of them connected horizontally or vertically in a cluster and you’ll receive 25 times your stake. Any symbols that form a win then detonate, clearing space for fresh symbols to fall in from above, letting you chain wins until no further clusters land.

Beyond the wild symbol, which functions exactly as expected, there aren’t any additional special symbols in this slot.

Thor’s Lightning (Red Tiger): Features

During the base game, one of two enhancers can randomly activate:

• Lightning Strike – Thor appears, firing lightning at the reels to remove low-value symbols or convert a random set of symbols into matching ones – even into wilds.
• Hammer Strike – Thor appears, hurling his powerful hammer onto the reels to destroy 2×2 symbol blocks, replacing them with premiums or he will shift random rows or reels, leading to winning combinations.

Right at the center of the grid you’ll notice a 3×3 stone block containing 9 inactive tiles. Winning clusters that land adjacent to it will unlock tiles, and if you break all 8 outer tiles within a single chain reaction, you’ll activate either the Valhalla Free Spins or Muspell Free Spins:

• Valhalla Free Spins – a fresh 7×7 grid set appears, consisting entirely of blank spaces. Gold shield symbols fall onto the grids and stay locked in place throughout the free spins. Once the free spins end, every shield reveals a random stake multiplier, which are then totalled to pay out your final win.
• Muspell Free Spins – in this mode you play on a 7×7 grid set with all low-value symbols removed.  The Lava Shower feature can also trigger at random, wiping out one or more symbol types for a free spin. On top of that, a Lava Flow feature may randomly activate as well, generating identical symbols across connected reels.

Thor’s Lightning (Red Tiger): Verdict

Typically, a max win capped at 1800 times your stake wouldn’t provide the level of excitement we usually want from a slot, but Thor’s Lightning earns a pass thanks to its superb presentation, smooth gameplay, and—most importantly—its fun feature set.

Overall, it’s a gorgeous slot, backed by an eerie string-led soundtrack that fits the atmosphere and should appeal to plenty of players. For us, Thor’s Lightning could have ranked among Red Tiger’s strongest releases yet if they had simply pushed the win potential up to at least 5000x.
