The Wiz – Introduction
Spellcraft takes centre stage in this fantasy-themed ELK Studios title, played on a 5-reel, 4-row layout with 178 ways to win. It’s a fairly straightforward slot that, while not particularly groundbreaking, can still spring the occasional surprise. The feature set is made up of mechanics that have been proven over many years and are generally popular with players when implemented well. That said, it does come with a few drawbacks, which we’ll cover in the conclusion.
Available on all devices with stakes from 0.20 to 100 EUR, The Wiz includes a bonus round with upgraded reels and special wilds. The 96.1% RTP is in line with the market average, and the variance sits in the upper medium area of the volatility spectrum.
The Wiz is set in a medieval kingdom. Behind the reels, a grand castle rises into clear blue skies, while the wizard—mounted on his dragon—stands on a hilltop path overlooking a lush mountain valley. It’s an attractive, wallpaper-style scene, although the lack of movement does feel a touch lazy.
The Wiz – Symbols, Paytable & Features
There’s a noticeable gap between the highest low-paying symbol and the lowest premium symbol, jumping from 0.5x to 3x. The reels feature 4 low-paying symbols shown as different magical items—spoons filled with magic dust, keys, brooches and rings.
At the premium side of the paytable you’ll find glass jars of magic potion, golden moons, chests and sun symbols, with the sun being the top payer, awarding 10 times the stake for 5 across a payline. Every symbol can appear fully stacked on the reels in both the base game and the bonus.
During the base game, players may also land multiplier wilds from x2 to x5. If multiple multiplier wilds land on the same winning payline, they combine to create bigger payouts.
The Wiz – Bonus

Landing Two Wizard scatter symbols anywhere on the reels awards 1 Wizspin bonus spin. Hitting 3, 4 or 5 scatters instead grants 5, 7 or 10 Wizspins respectively. The bonus can also be re-triggered by landing 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 scatters, adding 1, 2, 5, 7 or 10 extra free spins respectively to your total.
In the bonus round, the reels are enhanced so that all low-value symbols are swapped for their corresponding high-value symbol as follows:
- Spoon -> Potion
- Key -> Chest
- Brooch -> Moon
- Ring -> Sun
In addition, the multiplier Dragon wild now becomes a walking wild, shifting one reel to the left on each spin until it disappears from the grid. Since most of the game’s potential is concentrated in this round, it’s clearly the main highlight, with a maximum payout of 5000 times your stake available here.
The Wiz – Conclusion
The Wiz is a fairly average, no-frills slot that doesn’t bring much innovation or drive. Compared with many other titles from this studio, it can feel a bit plain and lacking inspiration. It’s not a bad game, and the win potential is perfectly decent, but it’s hard to see the logic in limiting a 4-row reel set to 178 paylines—at least to us, it feels somewhat contradictory. On top of that, the base game can be a slog and could really use more excitement.
On the upside, the bonus tends to trigger reasonably often, so you shouldn’t be waiting forever for it to break up the monotony of the base game. Overall, The Wiz is an acceptable slot, but it doesn’t quite live up to what its potential suggests.
