For players, that translates into a moody, shadowy setting—dubbed ‘Paris Noir’—plus 5×3 transparent reels that show a laser-rigged room, with the vault sitting at the back. Meanwhile, 20 paylines cut across the reels like glowing green security beams. The interface also stands out a bit, opting for a sleek, modern style. In the stake panel, players can set wagers from 20 p/c to $/€40 and switch on auto spins without fuss.

From a visual standpoint, the game leans into a video game vibe. That’s especially true of the PS2-like symbols, which are arguably the least appealing element on the reels. Standard pay symbols come in two groups—lower-paying 10-A royals and theme-based premium icons. From lowest to highest, the premiums are gold bars, a diamond case, a jewel, and a pink diamond. The top payouts come from that large pink gem, delivering 100 times the stake for five of a kind—four times the return of the next symbol down.

Trying to steal the world’s biggest diamond is about as all-in as it gets. Staying true to that idea, Snowborn has given The Vault a very high volatility profile. The Vault Slot: Features

Snowborn has packed in a handful of extra mechanics that can appear in the base game or must be activated, giving players a few things to anticipate. First up, there are 2 types of wilds. The first is a regular 1×1 wild that replaces any symbol except bonus symbols. Groups of these standard wilds can also form winning combinations, paying up to 100 times the stake for five of a kind. The second wild shows up during the Vault Bonus round and fully covers the middle reel for the duration of the feature.

The Vault Bonus Free Spins feature activates when 5 scatter symbols land on the screen, awarding 10 free spins. This is described as hacking into the Vault Bonus. The Vault Bonus starts with a win multiplier of x3, and it rises by 1 each time an ‘x1’ symbol appears. Alongside that is the ‘+1’ symbol, which grants an extra free spin, and there is no theoretical max limit to how many free spins may be awarded.

The last mechanic to note is the Respin feature, triggered when 2 or more bonus symbols land. When it hits, the bonus symbols lock in place and the reels spin again. If another bonus symbol lands, it awards another Respin. Respins keep going until no additional bonus symbols appear, or if five land, then the Vault Bonus is triggered.

The Vault Slot: Verdict

It’s obvious Snowborn has put a lot of planning into The Vault. Rather than chasing something wildly experimental that could just as easily flop as it could set the slots world alight, they’ve taken a steadier route—building a solid-looking game (not breathtaking, but respectable) and layering in cinematic animations that give the setting some real atmosphere. The detailed backstory and the character of Jewel add more flavour, before the game hits players with that brutally high-volatility math model. The end result has a distinct identity that won’t suit everyone, but it earns credit for doing something different.

The Vault also scores well for a bonus round that can be a real highlight once players finally manage to trigger it. Starting with a locked wild reel and an x3 multiplier is a strong opening, and it can improve further thanks to extra multipliers and additional free spins. This is where players—and would-be cat burglars—get the best chance to capitalise after cracking the vault. Single-spin wins can be decent too, as long as a few premium symbols land. Hitting a line of diamonds during the Vault Bonus with the default x3 multiplier pays 300 times the stake. Push the multiplier higher and satisfying returns of up to 5,000 times the stake are theoretically possible.

All in all, Snowborn has delivered something worthwhile with The Vault. Aesthetically, it offers a distinctive, modern style that should resonate with video game fans. The core stats are strong, and the bonus feature includes enough tasty components to make it an appealing—and potentially lucrative—experience when it lands. The Vault may not be the world’s largest diamond in slot form, but it’s certainly not a cheap imitation either.
