New Foxium releases aren’t exactly the kind of news that gets us excited, and you definitely shouldn’t buy into the hype some affiliate sites try to push. The reality is that, so far at least, their slots have been average at best, with a few that are frankly pretty awful. With so many top-tier studios putting out excellent titles, there’s simply no need to waste time on weak games.

After teaming up with Microgaming in 2017, this Estonian/Swedish developer has been producing exclusive content for the Quickfire platform. Even though they talk about having a decade of “gaming experience,” the studio’s overall portfolio feels underwhelming. They clearly know how to make things look good, and it wouldn’t surprise us if they’ve got a background in successful mobile games or similar, but based on what we’ve played, they come across more like contract coders than people passionate about casino slots.

While browsing our provider list for something to cover, we quickly noticed there wasn’t much available. The base game includes a Mystery Box Respin that triggers when a full stack of Boxes lands on the middle reel. Those boxes lock in place while the remaining reels spin again. Any extra Mystery Boxes that land anywhere during the respin also become sticky, and the respin counter resets back to 3. The feature keeps going until no new boxes appear or the player runs out of respins. The headline act in this magic show is the free spins round. To access it, you’ll either need to land the 3×3 free spin symbol on the 3 middle reels or use the buy-in option. Triggering the feature naturally grants 12 free spins, while purchasing it awards 8, 10 or 12 free spins for 100x, 125x or 150x your stake, respectively.

During the bonus, play expands onto a 5×6 grid with 5o paylines. On top of that, the Lily Feature can activate at any moment, dropping a full stack of x2 multiplier wilds on reels 2, 3 or 4 along with a random number of respins. The Great Albini is easily among the stronger titles Foxium has released, and there isn’t a lot here that genuinely bothers us. The base game can feel a little repetitive at times, even with the Mystery Box mechanic, but the bonus round helps balance things out and keeps the tension high thanks to its potential for very large payouts.

It’s not the kind of slot we expect to revisit again and again, especially with so many alternatives available, but it may be worth a handful of spins if you like testing fresh releases. Just keep in mind it’s a volatile game, so don’t be shocked if it devours your bankroll like a seagull swallowing a sausage.
